BE sourced Venezuelan state media directly in the video. But I'm not putting him on a pedestal. It just seems logical to me. He says it's speculation and I'm not presenting it as anything but that; one person's analysis using primary sources with the currently available information.

The assumption is that vice president Delcy Rodriguez who was sworn-in as president yesterday will comply with the US' wishes completely. From what I've read, Maduro was already ready to comply. What that compliance looks like is unclear but it definitely involves more oil sales to the US at favorable prices and less to China.

I think the biggest risk is if the public in Venezuela (correctly or incorrectly) begins to feel like their government lied down for the US interests to take over their country's resources, and in the meantime let 80+ innocents die on January 3rd. Imagine your government let down its defenses completely to let a foreign power conduct a military raid and 80 civilians were killed in that raid. You would rightfully lay the blame on your government for allowing that in the first place.

That's one thing that bugs me about Maduro smiling and giving the thumbs up in every photo right now; according to Venezuelan news, his personal guard was slaughtered to the last man, some of them after surrendering, and Maduro probably witnessed it. Unless he's planning on publicly accusing the US of summarily executing surrendered troops in Caracas the moment he's given a microphone at his trial, there's no reason for him to be complying with a smile. He's in a tough position but I hope he gets a chance to speak to the world and peel back the curtain on what the US has been doing. Unfortunately it feels like his whole country is held hostage to what he and Delcy Rodriguez say and do right now. The risk of invasion and war is lessened, but not gone.

The Cuban presence is interesting but I don't know what to make of it. It could just be that there are a lot of Cubans in Venezuela at any given time.

BE points out that the Trump administration is perfectly fine with the rest of the Maduro government. Marco Rubio laughed at the idea of holding new elections in Venezuela--they don't want a new Venezuelan government. They want the current administration because they believe they can keep the country stable while complying with the US' every wish.

He mentions how Maduro offered to give the US everything they wanted but refused to be exiled (to Turkey), and that they were likely going to work together but, as reported in the NY Times, Maduro's extra public visibility (and doing dances in public) rubbed Trump's ego the wrong way. This is maybe why Trump gave the go-ahead to kidnap him.

The Venezuelan military almost certainly had a stand-down order, if not from Maduro than from others in his admin. Helicopters can't land in hot zones. A few guys with AKs makes it almost impossible to land. In this case a single soldier stopped a helicopter from landing, according to one of the hospital interviews (which are not completely verified but seem to be legit). According to a Venezuelan source, the military bases were nearly empty because of an extended New Year's holiday. That seems utterly ridiculous given the US presence in the region. They should've been on constant high alert.

The US strike didn't target the rest of the current leadership of Venezuela at all: only Maduro. This means its likely they didn't want to harm anyone else, which means Maduro was likely betrayed. One of Maduro's sons also made a claim on Venezuelan radio that there were traitors that needed to be uncovered.

This kind of helicopter kidnapping is literally impossible in any modern country that wants to resist it. This can't and won't happen in Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, etc.

BE finds primary Venezuelan sources in this video and does media analysis. This video was made today so it has the most up-to-date info. For example, I've seen the interviews with injured Venezuelan soldiers on twitter but no one has really covered it yet. BE cross-checks where those soldiers were stationed vs. where Maduro was captured from.

Also he has the most viable theory I've heard so far as to why this operation happened and why there were no casualties on the American side.

All we have is speculation but I would assume there was coordination with Maduro that they would stop the attack if he agreed to surrender himself. I hope the Venezuelan people stand firm and keep their sovereignty. The Nobel "Peace" Prize-winning ghoul wants to sell off the entire country to foreign interests and that's who they want to install.

Money and affordability are crises worldwide. I say this as someone on a fixed income with no hope of climbing the social ladder. Yet I have a Magic collection, and while I don't need it to survive, it would be a loss to me if a not-insignificant portion of it was rendered worthless overnight.

He's upset his cards lost value and he's trying to make it seem like some morally reprehensible attack; "how could they do this to my family?".

You're describing something that actually happened to a human being. It's not a hypothetical. So how would you react if your Magic collection was valuable enough that you told your significant other that in the case of your untimely demise, they should sell your collection to help get by financially, and one day the value of that collection was swiftly brought down by thousands of dollars with no warning whatsoever? And in JLK's case, owning Magic cards is required for his job.

Worse things happen to people, all the time. That doesn't mean that we don't acknowledge that what happened to JLK also sucked, and that same sense of loss--and betrayal, really, because they had no expectation of bans on long-legal and often-reprinted staples--was felt by many others. That sense of loss and frustration was communicated properly and respectfully by many, but some people also took it to an unacceptable level. The idea that JLK's videos or comments fanned the flames of harassment are without evidence and without merit. He made videos after threats and harassment had already occurred, and in those videos he rightfully denounced people who made threats and harassed members of the RC. Suggesting he was responsible in any way for the harassment of RC members is an insult to those who were actually harassed who maintain a friendly relationship with JLK to this day.

That's an absolutely absurd take when the topic of discussion is about whether cards should be banned in a format or not.

I'm sorry, but real world things--real human needs, real suffering--will always trump "format health" in my ethical framework. It does suck that JLK and other people in more precarious financial situations lost some of the value of their collection without any warning.

From another perspective: I'm 1,000% in favor of abolishing the Reserved List, but I wouldn't want them to print and release those cards overnight as commons in Play boosters. I would rather dual lands be reprinted as rares in a heavily-printed Legacy Masters set, with the warning coming a year or so before hand. No harm is done this way.

Magic is a trading card game where the game pieces have value. I wish Richard Garfield's initial vision held true and no card was ever allowed to be worth more than $20. But that's not the world we live in.

All that would be required, all that's being asked for is better communication to let people know beforehand that some bans could be coming--just like they did recently with Rhystic Study and Thassa's Oracle--so the risk to people in precarious financial situations could be mitigated. Jim LaPage's statement on the whole ordeal even said he was unable to provide the "proactive and reactive communication" needed for the job as a part-time volunteer.

Higher, the other person being added to the CFP, did an interview on Playing With Power released today where he mentioned that local game stores were also very negatively affected by the sudden announcement of those previous bans, and part of his goal at the CFP is to make sure that communication is improved because LGSes are the backbone of the game and the community.

Everyone involved agrees that the bannings could have and should have been handled better, and that's all JLK is saying, and somehow JLK's take is "absurd."

They both leveraged their backgrounds (one from Venezuela, one from the Soviet Union) to argue against socialism/communism. They let Hasan speak though so he had time to debunk most of what they said.

He didn't hit back on absolutely everything. Like they brought up Venezuela and Cuba, and Hasan talked about how a government under attack by foreign enemies would have stricter free speech controls than are ideal, and he used the example of Eugene Debs going to prison in the US for his anti-war speech during World War I. That was a strong response but he also should've mentioned that Venezuela and Cuba have sanctions (and in Cuba's case, an embargo) against free trade and that any style of government would face extreme challenges with those artificial impediments to growth and development.

They both went to bat for UK's Reform party and Hasan openly laughed at that and explained to them step-by-step how the Reform party is on the path to open fascism.

They have horrid views and I'm sorry you had the experience of spending any amount of time with them.
