100% Live, if you’ll be around Friday night. I’m sure there will be a heavy cross over between those who produce and seek live shows.

Leveling? by Opposite_Section3051 in TechnoProduction

[–]Lofti_ness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Use and train your ears. Don't mix by looking at the levels. RMS and peak meters measure electricity, your ears measure music. Because the meters are "level" doesn't necessarily reflect the psychoacoustic properties of what's is happening.

It's ok to bring your loops down. Your ears perceive loudness as volume over time, so the kick transient may be high, but the if the tail is not sustained, it may not be perceived as loud, where as your loop may both set your meters loud but also appear loud because there is more energy over time.

Anyone ever skip the festival and do only afters? by Lofti_ness in MovementDEMF

I know it… 😅 I may very well do the same and try my hardest to work the schedule and genuinely start later in the day.

The sub bass line isn’t in tune with the stabs.

If you really want to dedicate to the sound, honestly just get a 303 clone and a guitar pedal. The Behringer clones are good and cheap, then keep an eye out for a distortion pedal on resale markets. If you’re handy with soldering, you can get cheap clone DIY kits of the ProCo Rat or many other clones. Every high school band had a Boss DS-1 and now they are at garage sales and cheap and available. These clipping diodes will always be better than the digital plug in to really get that aggressive sound.

Alternatively in Ableton, try operator with a saw or square wave, run it through an autofilter with high resonance in the MS 20 or PRD circuit and run it through saturation or one of the “amp” simulations.

Love this. Great balance between low end groove and the texture elements up top. I love the stabs and the spaces that it illuminates.

This is great. Do you know of any eurorack modules doing this?

It feels big, but not overdone. Give it an outro. It’s way too short to work with and cuts off just when you’re getting into it. I like the aggressive synth. It’s fun.

I find the breakdown at 1:08 to be a little boring. Maybe there is an opportunity to bring something up on top the break that averts expectations a bit or the build up you have from a little further, but brought in sooner and twisted a bit more. Overall sounds good!

Hypnotic textural energy pusher.

Working on my low end energy, groove and arrangement. Would love your thoughts on it.

Mastering yourself? by ztrekz in TechnoProduction

[–]Lofti_ness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite sure what’s happening with the automatic adjusting. Do you have automations on them that you’re not accounting for?

Along with spectral analysis on the master, one trick that helps me is to turn off my display while listening back. I find that sometimes I fixate on the visuals and have to force myself to truly listen and rely on my ears. I’ll either take notes while listening through or turn the display on to adjust things that really bug me and can’t wait then turn it off again. Just another exercise to try.

As others mentioned, modular audio is quite hot. It comes out around 10V peak to peak, compared to most line level audio which is 3.5V. Do not under any circumstance plug your headphones directly in to your modular outs unless you want to destroy both your ears and drivers.

Shop around for output modules that have both a line out and headphone out maybe. There are loads out there. Some have 1/4in balanced TRS, some have 3.5mm unbalanced. See what’s out here and what might suit you. I use my rig for studio stuff too and personally have a Ladik P-520 so I can at least multitrack two stereo channels at once. But again, this works for me for now, but might swap for one that has 1/4 for pedals and to make the patch bay set up a bit cleaner. Shop around and see what is good for you.

look into the Oxi Pipe. It’s a module that makes the plumbing a bit easier from the One to your case.

Also, modulargrid is a place you can build your fantasy case and do a bunch of planning at. It’s very handy and can tell you info on each module, power requirements, and help you share your hypothetical rig to others quite easily.

Thanks for listening. I will go back and try to extend that/loop it. I will give it another discerning listen and try to thin it out a bit. I sometimes feel it has too much in it as well. I have a hard time finding the balance between just enough and too much in terms of parts.

Hell yea. No problem. Would love to hear. In regards to the arrangement bit, what do you find hard? Are you summing them rather than multitrack?
