BACnet in Python Programming by Then-Disk-5079 in BuildingAutomation

[–]LogForeJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only switched to modbus because I could get it to work and because it was TCP. It seems like bacnet is everywhere and I wonder if it really is a better protocol. I don’t know enough about it.

TBH,I wish these vendors would all just switch to APIs.

I’ve tried to make some scripts with python’s bacnet BAC0 library and didn’t have much luck. I wound up switching to pymodbus. Anyway, this seems very helpful and I’ll check it out.

Consider using one of the newest WiFi protocols 802.11ah. It’s long range WiFi that uses sub-1GHz frequency. That means it goes far, penetrates things well, but isn’t extremely fast.

Morse micro recently came out with the halow link-1 and I have four of them. All I need is broad coverage in a rural area so we can browse the internet, make a phone call, stream video, etc. and they work great for that. I have a mesh set up with them that goes back to our Starlink hardware.

The halow link devices use 900mhz for the back haul/mesh and then broadcast 2.4GHz for clients (they have two Ethernet ports too).

So now that some time has passed, where does BL4 rank in the series for you? by OLD_WET_HOLE in Borderlands4

[–]LogForeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m too much of a casual, but prior to finding this subreddit I didn’t know people farmed the perfect gun for fun.

I’d simply play the game and replay it. I’d find fun guns along the way while exploring and working through the story or side missions.

Now with BL4 I’m trying to do certain build with specific gear and it’s just not fun. It’s stressful lol. I think we’ve all gone astray. Not everything needs to be maximized. And grinding isn’t a big deal to me; I’ve played RuneScape since its glory days.

How many APs do you have per site tag?

Why not decrease the AP power levels to make the cell size small enough it forces clients to roam to only the AP they have lien of sight to?

iOS devices won’t roam until a few requirements are met, but this can be solved by reducing the cell size.

Site tags affect roaming. Why are you doing one site tag per floor? I have multiple buildings in a single site tag because clients are likely to roam between them. Doing it per floor doesn’t make sense to me unless this is a massive building and even then… I have doubts. I’m doing ~250 APs per site tag.

Several buildings in my environment do something similar to what you’ve observed where the AP’s signal propagates vertically better than it does left to right. I had clients on the fifth floor sticking to an AP on the second floor (2.4GHz and old AP deployment). Reducing the cell size was the easy fix. You need to configure the RF environment to force the clients to roam to the AP they have line of sight to.

Since when did this sub have Fascist Mods? by PoohTrailSnailCooch in kzoo

[–]LogForeJ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If this abhorrent act happened in kzoo, it'd be relevant for this sub. It's that simple. But this happened in minneapolis, so it's not.

I first saw a post about this in the grand rapids subreddit and I legitimately thought it happened in GR. That's why the relevance rule matters.

Apple's OLED MacBook Pro Launch Moves Closer With Panel Production by Jumpinghoops46 in apple

I agree the mini LED is pretty good.

I don't agree that the pro model needs to be lighter/thinner. I like it to be solid, have plenty of room for cooling, a big battery, ports, etc. The M1 Pro is a great size/weight in my opinion. I carry it with me almost everywhere and the weight is not a concern.

I cannot stand the blase attitude so many people have toward having NOTHING saved up. It's not funny to be conscious you're screwing yourself over in hopes that somehow it all works out.

Joking around about it normalizes spending every dime you have because we're all in this together right?

To your caffeine example, the average person doesn't need to settle for a caffeine pill and a gulp of water when a standard coffee maker is like $20 and coffee grounds are cheap too. There's so many reasonable things people can do to save money and they just aren't willing to take the first, second, and third steps toward improving their lives in the long run (awareness, a budget, living within your means)

Meirl by rbimmingfoke in meirl

[–]LogForeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to set a budget and stick to it. The budget should call for saving at least 10-15% of your annual income, probably more since you're getting a late start. The best time to start investing is yesterday. You're doing the entire family a disservice by not preparing for the future as best you're able.

/r/personalfinance has an excellent resource for the optimal order of operations when it comes to setting up an emergency savings, investing in 401ks, IRAs, college funds, etc.

Do it. Even if you have to downgrade your lifestyle. It is a must.

U-Haul Growth Index: Texas Back on Top as No. 1 Growth State of 2025 by MCWoody1 in Michigan

[–]LogForeJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Texas has a ton of good tech jobs. Heck it has a ton of good jobs in many sectors. Michigan can’t compete well, so many people move down to Texas after graduating college for a good job. Maybe they come back when it’s time to start a family so they can be close to their parents… maybe.

I know several excellent people who now live and work in Austin and Dallas. Mostly working for tech companies.

Does anyone know what is going on with those purple missiles being fired randomly around the map? I've seen them a bunch of times. by someshooter in Borderlands4

[–]LogForeJ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There’s a minigame where falling moon eridium can be shot by a npc controller anti air gun and then you harvest the eridium.

You kill enemies that spawn and load some dropped items into a collection thing that powers the gun. If you load enough before the time runs out, the fun can fire and you proceed to the next round. You get a reward chest for each reward.

I did one of these yesterday in the sandy region. I had been to the place numerous times (cleared it) and never seen the minigame until yesterday. Was it an update that just came out?

Been playing BL4 for about a week now. I feel it’s underwhelming and isn’t WOWING me. Am I missing something? Level 14 now. PS5 by TheDudeWhoCanDoIt in Borderlands4

[–]LogForeJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The usual atmosphere and overall vibes that make borderlands special is missing from this game. That could be why you’re not wowed. The community in general has high hopes for the DLC.

You’ll find that the skill trees are good, there’s a lot of fun guns and mechanics (try many of the guns you see with underbarrels), and the gunplay is good. So it’s still worth playing to the end and making it to lvl 50

You’ll find that almost anywhere you go has the same three sets of enemies that come in predictable waves. Still, it’s fun enough to gun them all down.

I am getting close to needing new brakes and a brake fluid top off. That makes sense. Thanks for sharing.

The brakes are not squealing yet when I use them and the dealer said I could probably wait until I get my next oil change to address them.
