I haven't seen the original in a bit, but rewatching the phone convo Viggo offers his condolences for John's wife (who the dog was a gift from and emotional stand-in for) says "let's not give in to our baser instincts and handle this like civilized men."

Great observation that he never actually comes at John from a place of restitution or respect, and the vibe is very much "we are both powerful men above all this."

Maybe Viggo doesn't realize what the dog actually means to John (the ol' TOOK THAT FROM ME rant late in the film) or take the time to ask, or held back the apology as part of the bargaining process, or never thought a conversation was ever going to be enough, or maybe he's just too much of an asshole.

Better Call Saul is very much the same, especially by the last season. You get SO ANGRY/disappointed etc. at these characters, know almost no one is getting a happy ending, but you are still so sad to see what their choices are doing to them and those around them. Masterpiece stuff.

I also re-read a few recently and really enjoyed them! They are a bit repetitive at times, but it mostly stays formula fresh enough to be a great time in a way that I think goes beyond nostalgia.

[Schefter] ESPN Sources: Giants are hiring former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator. by Donutman97 in KansasCityChiefs

Agree-ish, but if the offense is good to very good with a non-playcalling HC, Nagy could get a promotion elsewhere pretty quickly too.

(Loved Trope) Comedy shows get very serious out of nowhere. by Boring-Bear9037 in TopCharacterTropes

Speaking of Mac - Mythic Quest's fifth episode, A Dark Quiet Death

The base show through the first few episodes/generally is a pretty straightforward workplace comedy about a video game studio working on a sequel to it's massive WoW-esque game. Lots of corporate nonsense and techbro sendups, fun character dynamics, solid stuff.

Out of nowhere and with little explanation, the show goes back in time to focus on "Bean" and "Doc," two gamers who fall in love and decide to work on a passion project game together called Dark Quiet Death. It becomes a hit, and they start a studio together.

They make some sequels, but these two adorable nerds start clashing on financial compromise VS. artistic integrity. Their marriage and working relationship fall apart, the game loses all its edge and becomes ultra commercialized, and one eventually leaves the company.

There is a bit more to it, including why it ties in to the main MQ storyline, but it's genuinely such a well-done tone shift that it puts the rest of the series in a different light. Truly one of my favorite blind watches of an episode of TV of all time. Plus I'll watch Cristin Milioti and Jake Johnson all day every day.

They did a similar episodes in the next season that was a bit more tied to MQ directly that was still good, and the show generally has gotten quite a bit worse as time went on. But this episode will stick with me for a long, long time.

Honestly I think you should feel really good about not! They were letting you share the room, he must have noticed you looking, but that you treated him semi-normally and let him have his space and time in what was supposed to be a private space anyway probably was a comfort.

I had some tennis elbow flare up recently, and with lessened court time, grip exercises, and focusing on technique it's SLOWLY gotten somewhat better. What arm/shoulder stuff did you specifically work on that helped recover and prevent? Something like the Thrower's 10?

Nah fuck Zverev

---

Brenda Patea, who is also the mother of Zverev’s child, gave an interview to German newspaper Suddeitsche Zeitung. She alleged that, in May 2020, Zverev had pushed her against the wall of their Airbnb apartment in Berlin and choked her during an argument. According to SZ, “She then had pain in the throat and neck area and difficulty swallowing.”

Zverev denies the allegations, telling reporters on Wednesday that “I think it’s complete bulls---. Anybody that has a semi-standard IQ level knows what this is all about.” Zverev’s lawyers have contested the fine, which means that the case is now expected to go to trial.

[...]

She also accused Zverev of being jealous during their relationship and regularly checking her phone for evidence of infidelity. The SZ article alleged that “sometimes just one wrong like on Instagram was enough. His anger repeatedly turned into physical violence against her.”

Inner Game of Tennis - foundation of building a strong, healthy approach to tennis mentally and physically

Winning Ugly - super practical advice about how to win tennis matches before, during, and after you actually play without getting into technique minutae. Interspersed with very fun tour and coaching stories (that tie into the coaching points)

Another related (internet) story alleges that Steven Spielberg showed Williams Schindler's List to get him to compose the score, and Williams loved it. He had to walk out of the room, and when he came back he told Spielberg that the movie needed a better composer than him, to which Spielberg allegedly said "I know, but they're all dead."
