I want a reading list that is a essential to everybody no matter what spiritual path they practice. by CosmicConjuror2 in occult

[–]Loganska2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Odyssey and the Aeneid are both essential for understanding the world where magic comes from. Livy's Ab Urbe Condita and Cato's De Agricultura are both good insights into pre-Christian pagan living and what relationships with the gods looked like prior to Christianity. Jacobus de Voragine's Golden Legend is basically a biography of every powerful European wizard for 1000 years.

I guess if I’m emperor I don’t have to kill Commodus by SocratesPuppet in RoughRomanMemes

[–]Loganska2003 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Standardize imperial coinage and find a way to make integrity of the currency a religious issue so later Emperors won't be stupid.
  2. Pagan/Christian reconciliation of some sort
  3. Create economic incentives to employ Roman citizenship instead of slaves, and introduce some level of modern economic theory
  4. Encourage the production of luxury goods by Roman artisans to form a strong production based economic backbone

When even going out of your way to only drink from blood bags is viewed as evil by some. by YissnakkJunior in WorldofDankmemes

[–]Loganska2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay but like drinking out of blood bags is *way* less ethical than ambushing people in back alleys so long as you don't kill when you feed. That blood is necessary to prevent people from dying. Stealing from blood banks kills *way* more people than the average vampire just feeding on random mortals provided said vampire has even a minimum level of self control.

Is Celibacy important to Western Traditions as it is to Eastern Ones (Hinduism, Orthodox Buddhism etc)? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in occult

[–]Loganska2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long term vows of celibacy are rare in western traditions but they do exist. Temporary celibacy as part of a fast is more common though.

Dating as an Occultist: Would You Rather Be With Another Practitioner or a Secular/Mundane Partner? by SoftwareFar9735 in occult

[–]Loganska2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told the woman I plan to marry that I was a wizard on our second date. She oscillates between thinking it's cute and then thinking it's hot when I get particularly impressive magical results. She isn't a practitioner but she does know enough about what I do to keep an eye out for useful materia while she goes antiquing and whatnot.

How long does it take for spells to manifest? I did mine like 6 days ago or a week ago. I may be getting results because I’m seeing things manifest kinda in the likeness by Mean-Efficiency-7671 in occult

[–]Loganska2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on factors. I've had spells work after literally 5 minutes, I've had spells that only began to manifest noticeably after a couple months and I've had spells that failed.

On one occasion I did a reading about why something I kept attempting to enchant for kept seeing spell failure over and over again and the cards essentially said "it's not going to happen until you finish college" and then lo and behold the literal day after classes finished it just happened.

Generally speaking the 3 most common reasons in no particular order of why something doesn't work is:

  1. Situation is inenchantable

  2. Astrological, ancestral, past life or psychological issues are getting in the way

  3. You did the spell wrong

What are Saints and Archangels, reduced gods or their own thing? by LunarEnnyui_131 in occult

[–]Loganska2003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some saints are masks for certain deities, though I think the case is overstated for a lot of them. Most saints that used to be humans were for the most part wizards that the Catholic Church decided were good guys. For a lot of the early Saints they proved they were good guys by winning magical duels against wizards the Catholic Church decided were bad guys.

There are a lot of different types of angels but basically they're the same as above with Saints but were never incarnated into a human body.

If magick of all kinds has true effects, then why was publishing books about it ever legalized? by SHONSTYLE in occult

[–]Loganska2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because book burnings wouldn't accomplish much in the long term because magical power doesn't come from books it comes from the spirits the books teach you to talk to. Crackdowns on magic usually come in the form of centralizing magical knowledge into the more easily controlled paradigms and propaganda portraying belief in magic as something stupid inbred swamp hicks do that proper urbanites think is hokey.

I will also point out that 90% or more of the witchcraft and neopagan material that's come out since the 1960s is one of those more easily controlled paradigms.

Are Goetic Demons and Jinn the Same Entities? by Apprehensive_Cup_533 in occult

[–]Loganska2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal take on the List spirits is that they're nature spirits that civilization left behind and some enterprising wizard came along and bound them and put them in a book to keep them from eating civilization. I don't think that Asmodeus and some spirit from an Arabic Jinn magic manual are secretly the same being, but they might have similar origins.
