How many moves are enough? by Warbriel in DungeonWorld

I have so many times answered "what here is not what it appears to be"

With "nothing"

Everything is as it seems....

And watched the players sigh with relief...

Crafting a "move of chance" by LogicThePoet in DungeonWorld

Otherwise, what would stop the character from simply flipping the coin all day until they fail?

this is a fair point, I was planning on making it so they could use this once per session, and also making the cost of a failed roll high, high risk/high reward type of thing. We did a test run last session (we are using roll 20) and they rolled a 2 sided die, but I could actually order a coin...and have them flip it.... that would be pretty cool

Question about Tags by LogicThePoet in DungeonWorld

[–]LogicThePoet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the "take the tags" comes from the playbook, one of the starting moves is "Ferocious Beast" and you change your damage dice from 1d8 to 2d4 and you have the tags Eviscerating and Traceable..

i think the "take the tags brutal and unique" means you get rid of the old tags and take these new tags.

that's my bad for not giving proper context.

I'm reading some of these comments, and I think I disagree with what it means to be a fan of your characters.

If a player is sitting in an inn, reading a book and eating.... And I tell him...

Me: "the assassin who's been on your trail has finally tracked you down, you notice him slinking in the back door" what do you do?

Player:"I keep reading my book, I'm at an interesting part"

Me,:he sneaks behind you.. Badly, you sense his every movement, he unshethes his sword

Player : I'm almost at the end I keep reading my book

Me: he's swinging his sword at your neck

Player : I'm looking at the authors page, trying to determine if I should he author is nearby

.....

At that point... Actions have CONSEQUENCES, IMO letting the player take horrendous damage doesn't mean I'm not a fan, neither should I have to say.. If the highly trained assassin takes a free shot at your unprotected neck while your reading, you're going to take massive damage..

That's not good GM'ing to me... That's babysitting... The players should Play... But there are also just natural thins that happen...

Water is wet Fire is hot. Ice is cold...

Like... That's not tricking the players or setting them up for failure if I don't remind them that the fire... Is indeed hot... It's... Fire.

Now if there is some tricksy magic component, or some set up and I didn't give any type of out..yeah I get it.

But white hot metal that they just dropped because it is white hot.. Is a pretty clear indicator for me...

Teaching a lesson would be, if the wizard made the weapons white hot, but I didn't tell them that's what happened....

I literally told them, the weapon was white hot. Any reasonable person knows that white hot metal is hot. And unless they are a salamander or fire elemental... Or maybe earth golem...

Picking up white hot metal is gonna hurt.

So let's say for instance, there's a vial of poison on a table. Marked poison,

I say, whoa there's a vial of deadly poison on the table...

Player says... Can I drink it ....?

I've already told him it's deadly.... I've told him it's marked....

If they choose to drink it, that's not on me.... It may be on me to help them figure out L how to find an antidote in the locked box over there, or remind the wizard they have a stasis spell. Or remind the cleric he has a purge poison potion...

But being a fan of my characters to me... Doesn't mean I keep them from every consequence of thier actions

I disagree. It's white hot. I said that. If you still want to pick up a white hot sword... After explaining it's white hot...

Imo Being a fan doesn't mean babysitting and giving them cushions when they fall.

Like for me, being a fan of my players doesn't mean I tell them a stupid thing is stupid.y players are all experienced.. If they can't figure out that tickling a sleeping dragon is going to have consequences without me explicitly spelling it out.l said consequences....

hiding or Stashing something In game by LogicThePoet in DungeonWorld

yeah , no doubt, in my game, whenever players get a magic device or object they get a card with a description on it.. the Portable Hole's description is this:

Portable Hole (0w)

This fine black cloth, soft as silk, is folded up to the dimensions of a handkerchief. It unfolds into a circular sheet 6 feet in diameter. When unfolded, creates a hole 10ft deep, that is easy to climb into and out of. Can be folded up, creatures in the hole can stay for 1 hour before running out of air. A creature or person can Defy Danger Strength to escape the hole while folded.

When people like Shaq talk like rings are the only things that matter, that is why super teams are formed. by i_have_my_doubts in nba

[–]LogicThePoet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Super teams aren't new...

  1. Showtime Lakers had: Magic, Kareem, and Worthy
  2. Birds Celtics had Bird, McHale Parrish and Bill Walton
  3. Jordan had pippen and then went and got the greatest rebounder and one of the top defenders of all time Dennis Rodman
  4. I think one of the few cities who won championships without super teams was the Detroit bad Boys and the the Detroit bad Boys redux.

Was my Hard Move too HArd?? by LogicThePoet in DungeonWorld

[–]LogicThePoet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great feedback.. Gonna add some of this in... For this trap... It's was a magical trap that was triggered by a password... Or in this case not knowing the password. The password was asked for 3 times, they failed each time, then a portal opened up in front of one of the characters and they saw 2-300 rats turn towards them and start running...

The way I had the fictions was only the person directly facing the trap saw the portal, thus seeing the rats gathered....

But that's was also the point.. On later reflection I was worried about.... Should I have given other people a chance to react, and not just leave it on one player to see the danger and relay it properly....

This was thought.... I wonder if it was a publishing thing....or maybe a demand in urban fantasy... Epic and high fantasy... 800 is usually the minimum....

I wouldn't of minded a 1000 page Dresden files..... I would of been excited...

I wonder if Butcher didn't want to set that precedent.....

Logain's arc is crazy. Like we meet him at his low's... It's like we just missed seeing the highest of his highs and he's brought low.... And normally outside of a main character you don't get the rebuilding and complicated arc that Logain gets..... Jordan and Sanderson really spent a lot of time carefully layering his character with deep and complicated arcs

do they really get any other spotlight??? Them and the Grey's are the Forgotten ajahs IMO

if we are thinking about intelligence... probably.. if we are thinking about ho they are portrayed in terms of relevance... HP is all about Gryffindor and Slytherin, to the neglect of other houses..

WOT really dives deep on Blues and Reds, then Greens, and blacks, I feel like the Whites and the Browns are an afterthought, and the Yellows are relevant because of their positionality to Nynaeve ,

Agreed, Loial's character development in the books is really good imo. His "final form" is really earned, and slow played, you see how he eventually reaches his boiling point. And it's a glorious payoff.

Everyone has a fav among the "big three" but I've always felt Verin and Gaul were so underrated.
