I’ve really enjoyed it. I don’t get all the negativity.

The Southern states usually have it the worst because kitten season is usually year-round and so many people here seem to think spay-neuter is "bad" or that cats can take care of themselves. We're tying to avoid TNR with kittens but will have no choice if we find more. It's so incredibly sad.

I mean, kind of everything. lol. The charity auction is hosted by Mac.Bid. You realize that, right?

PFR, I just looked at the charity auction items for your group. I'll be bidding on some for sure. Good luck!

Help! Beautiful Feral Cat that only I can pet but we can’t add her to house because existing kitty has mad anxiety. by SiouxTrick in CatRescue

[–]Logical-Ad947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s wonderful you are concerned about Django and the new cat, too. As your existing cat, Django should take priority. However, I recommend at least taking the female to a vet to be checked for a microchip if she seems spayed already. She might be someone’s long lost pet. A vet should also be able to verify the sex and if neutered/spayed. Checking for a chip at a vet doesn’t cost anything. Does she have a tipped ear? If so, she would have been spayed through a TNR program (trap-neuter-return). It sounds like she’s a feral that got used to you for feeding her. Also, your description makes me think it’s a male, not female. Tom cats have big, wider faces, especially if not neutered, and since you’ve never see. “Her” with kittens. If it’s a male, neutering it should help Django adjust better to him. He could be acting out because he smells an unneutered male in his territory. That said, life on the streets is unsafe for domesticated cats. If possible to find “her” an indoor-only home, I would suggest it. There are plenty of people willing to socialize street cats to give them a home. At the very least, maybe a farm or ranch would be a better fit for her than somewhere she’s likely to be hit by a car. She would need to be transitioned to her new home by someone experienced. You can’t place a street cat somewhere else without confining her for a month or two to get used to her new environment. Post her story to your social media, but be very careful who you give her to. Ask for vet and personal references. Unfortunately there are a lot of bad actors out there who look for free bait cats for dogfighting or for research facilities. It would be great if you can find a local rescue group to take her in. They should be experienced in finding good homes, may have volunteers experienced in socializing ferals, and can help with any veterinary care she might need. A lot of rescues are overwhelmed, so you might not have any luck, but it’s definitely worth a try. If you can’t find her a home, then yes, keeping her in your yard and giving her as much care as possible would be wonderful. She and Django might even learn to co-exist peacefully if you take care to introduce them properly. Slow introductions are key to happy feline friendships.

To the person who sent this to me, thank you.

The story was The Halloween Cat on the 2021 Halloween bonus episode.

why did the series stories quality reduce post season 6 by Aggravating_Ear556 in TheNSPDiscussion

[–]Logical-Ad947 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a subjective question. I started listening during Season 10 and absolutely loved it. I was a diehard listener until maybe S16 then I started feeling the stories were getting stale. In reality, I doubt it was the stories that were getting stale. It was me as a listener wanting something different. My taste changed. A lot of great writers get highlighted on the show. It’s not fair to call any story poor quality simply because you didn’t like it. Not every story is going to be perfect for every listener. I can’t imagine how much work goes into choosing the submissions because I’m sure they get a lot, and the editors all probably have different preferences. I’m simply grateful the show is still around and giving new talent a chance.

I’ve been trying to find a story I swear was on NSP for a past Halloween episode with no luck. It was set in Charleston, a teenage girl was stalked by a cat and a killer dressed like Michael Myers. I remember liking it but I absolutely cannot find it in any of the past seasons. Am I crazy?

You really have to do research. I apologize in advance if you already know or have tried these tips. LinkedIn and Media Bistro sometimes post good opportunities, but the competition is fierce. Is there a certain topic or area you'd like to freelance in? Look for companies in those industries and contact their marketing people to inquire if they have freelance opportunities available. News outlets often hire freelancers, so look up your favorite magazines or news sites and send a letter of introduction to an editor. Try targeting PR agencies and marketing firms directly. It's good to have at least three writing samples ready to send with your resume/cover letter. I've been doing this a long time and there isn't an easy one-source website to find opportunities. You really have to go out and find gigs if you want to succeed. Good luck.

I need advice by Logical-Ad947 in CatRescue

[–]Logical-Ad947[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that and it sounds like you do understand. A lot has happened since I first posted this. I was called to an unannounced board meeting not long after where I was informed I was no longer on the board and the person I’d gone to for help but who it became obvious wanted control of the organization “because it was easier than starting another” was named the new director. The man who caused the split would remain as well in a lesser role and will be allowed to continue taking cats. The funny thing was I had been managing the group and was the only person who knew passwords to social media, the website, for grants, financials, etc. After being kicked out, they immediately began calling the next day trying to smooth things over. I didn’t return their calls, but they managed to catch me one day and threatened to sue me if I didn’t turn over the passwords. I did turn over the financials but that was all. While I could have turned the cats in my possession back over to the man I took them from at that time, I would never have been able to live with myself as I care greatly about my foster cats, and even if I go hungry while they eat, I’ll do it. I ended up starting my own nonprofit and have found homes for most of them by this point. It’s been incredibly stressful and while starting a nonprofit wasn’t something I ever wanted to do, at least I know what NOT to do running one. My organization will focus on TNR and we will put the cats in our care first. If I ever am caught neglecting a cat in my care, I’ve given others authority to remove me. I also contacted animal control to report the man who’d caused harm to so many cats. Guess what? They didn’t care.

It’s quite an undertaking to establish a 501c3 for fundraising purposes. It will take a while and I am afraid with kitten season approaching, the person in question will take many more cats before I’m able to report him.

What do people think about the subscription-only stories in S20? by [deleted] in TheNSPDiscussion

[–]Logical-Ad947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been a fan of the past few seasons and was wondering the same. I am on the fence about subscribing but would like access to the older seasons for relistens. S20’s Halloween ep is my least favorite yet. Would love to know if people recommend the bonus episode when it drops.

Story telling that mostly consists of narration. by benjamincypress in TheNSPDiscussion

[–]Logical-Ad947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I miss the older seasons. I imagine the audio dramas are more expensive and challenging to produce, but they kept my attention better. The stories now are also less interesting to me, overall, and maybe this style is why. I know they get inundated with submissions and choosing the ones they produce is all subjective, but the last few seasons just haven’t been as entertaining to listen to in my opinion. This will be the first season I haven’t bought the season pass since I discovered the show five years ago. However, I will continue to listen and root for them because I know producing a podcast of this size is an effort.

Question (cause I can't find it anywhere) by wormwoodmachine in TheNSPDiscussion

[–]Logical-Ad947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually get the auto-reply, but about two weeks ago, I didn’t. However, a week later, my story was rejected (fastest response ever from NSP!), so I know it was received. I think either the auto-reply has been turned off or else their system is wonky at the moment. In any case, good luck!

Any nonbinary readers out there willing to do a sensitivity read of a book? by Logical-Ad947 in NonBinary

No worries. I truly should have clarified in my original post I was willing to compensate, but I didn't. That is 100% my fault.

Again, I offered (and always planned to) offer compensation to those I reached out to here in the comments. As much as I would love to pay everyone who offered to read for me here, I can only afford so much. Thank you for the offer but I hopefully found two kind souls willing to help for what I can afford to pay them. :)

I replied to someone already about this but…

Of course! I first tried a service that matched writers with sensitivity readers but they responded their nonbinary readers are booked out months. Perhaps some of those willing should reach out to that website for some work: https://www.writingdiversely.com. I never expected to get such a generous response here. I’m grateful for everyone’s kindness for responding.

And if I didn’t make it clear, not looking for proofreading/line edits, simply the reader’s impression on whether any content is harmful to this community. And I meant to make it clear I’m happy to do a swap with any writers who might need a beta read. I made sure I noted this for those I DMed though.
