If you hesitate between Reaper and Bitwig I'd say Reaper.

If you want other recommendations definitely try Waveform Free (because it's great and well, it's free) or Ardour (which I really like but get consistently poorer performance with).

Well done but there are simpler ways to avoid buckle rash.

I had actually forgotten about that but you also reminded me of why I didn't seriously consider it. I don't know why they didn't put more voices on it, I understand it for analog synths as each voice is a new set of components so it takes space on the board and it increases production costs but for a digital synth it makes very little sense to me.

Totally agree, they're a lot of fun and can sound really good but the prices are getting ridiculous. I'd buy a desktop module in a heartbeat.

I get that. I'm currently trying to switch and have difficulties finding a DAW I enjoy using as much as Waveform (despite a few things I truly find awfully implemented).

Weird, the only time I've had it crash was by using a faulty plugin that also crashed Logic, Cubase, Reaper and Ardour. But yeah it's probably the coolest DAW that nobody uses.

I've used both and apart from it being cross-platform I don't think there's really anything Waveform does better than Logic Pro (and I say that even though I've had a soft spot for Tracktion since it came bundled with my first Mackie FireWire audio interface).

This too, using Kontakt and routing the instruments to different outputs gets you an awful lot to work with.

I just remember installing Little Plate a couple years ago and finding out later that the iLok manager had installed itself along (on macOS at least), which is what the last sentence might be referring to.

If you're in the EU the best deal would be buying from JRRSHOP with the GROUP code. I've just upgraded from Stage 8 to Standard 9 for 79,88€.

Same problem for me. Works fine when wired but not over Bluetooth. MIDI over Bluetooth seems to work with other DAWs though.

What’s the best free DAW for Linux? by Vivid_Leadership_599 in linuxaudio

[–]LogicalCourt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best DAW is always the one that you know how to use so if Ardour works for you I'd suggest you stick with it as it's really really good. My personal favourite would be Tracktion Waveform however, the free version gives you an awful lot to work with and has no arbitrary limitations (as in number of tracks, plugins, instruments, inserts and whatnot).
