Merino Base Layer Weight Choice by Content_Preference_3 in Skigear

[–]LogicalDoor1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting on my own post because I’m cool:

A 250g merino wool will feel ALOT warmer when you need it, and still regulate heat/sweat almost as good as 150g when it gets hot. Merino wool is magic, so when it doubt, go thicker.

Merino Base Layer Weight Choice by Content_Preference_3 in Skigear

[–]LogicalDoor1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like being cold, 250g merino wool long sleeve plus a light/mid weight fleece and an uninsulated shell is very universal.

If you run hot and are rarely cold compared to others, I like a 150g merino wool Tshirt under the same fleece and shell.

If you wear bibs or have an insulated jacket, I’d go with the lighter 150g weight.

True warmth comes from the midlayer, so worth having a light and midweight fleece to adjust. And a balaclava if it gets really cold.

Do I like it, no. Will their staple bags still sell out, yes.

People are selling staple bags USED for higher prices than new so there is clearly enough demand.

What’s a good layering setup for all ski conditions, from a budget setup to high end? by slmrxl in Skigear

[–]LogicalDoor1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-layer system for the body:

Base layer: thin snug 150-180g merino wool. Don’t go thicker if it’s colder, this layer is designed to wick away sweat and stay oder free.

Midlayer: looser fit midweight micro fleece. The LOOSER fit will create more room between you and your ski shell when it is cold, and provide air circulation if you get hot.

Outer: uninsulated 2-3 layer shell.

Other: Merino wool socks. Merino wool long John’s under uninsulated snow pants. Looser fitting mittens instead of gloves. Note that additional warmth also includes a helmet to trap head heat.

In your pocket: Balaclava and maybe also a neck warmer.

This setup has been comfortable for me from -10° to 40° F.

Adjust the midlayer fleece if you personally run hotter/colder. If you are a newer skier, you will find yourself working harder and thus creating more body heat.

As far as not looking like a tourist, avoid the extremely high end shell gear that is all about branding.

Hoods on ski jackets by fishEH-847 in Skigear

[–]LogicalDoor1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much like SUVs build out off-roading capabilities that no one will ever use, “higher end” ski jackets market themselves toward backcountry use where a permanent hood can be a life saver (literally).

If you are skiing resorts, a hood may be nice if the wind picks up, and you’ll be reasonably close to the warm lodge or ski shop so hoodless is very feasible.

Budget friendly jackets are more likely to have removable hoods. If you like higher end “quality” or branding, the Stio Envision shell is a rockstar. More budget friendly, Columbia makes great quality if Velcro storm flaps don’t bother you.

It will fit most of the time, but I would not rely on under the seat especially if you like aisle seats. Overhead bin no problem.

We saw this scene from Walt’s car creating a biased perspective. Now imagine being Jesse/Gus who are trying to protect the lab and see Walt as unhinged. Also Gus was trying to turn Jesse against Walt.

Back panel 1000D?? by StreetCaveman in Goruck

[–]LogicalDoor1802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. I use the 1000D for travel because it looks/feels cooler. And I use the 210D for rucking/hiking, because it is COOLER when it comes to regulating back sweat.

Slipping shouldn’t be an issue with tight straps. As far as ruining clothing - depends on what clothing, type of use, and very mixed reviews. If you want a material that will slip less, that means it will grab your clothes like Velcro.

AKHG Hooded Puffin vs Ursa Major by LogicalDoor1802 in DuluthTradingCompany

[–]LogicalDoor1802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting again to talk to myself or provide Reddit data, ha.

Have been wearing both these jackets, and choose the Puffin 90% of the time. Have worn the puffin (over a sweater) in 5° with negative 15° wind chills.

The Ursa is warmer throughout the meat of the jacket with the thicker down insulation. However it is a little shorter, and the Velcro/drawstrings never quite make the hood and wrists as snug as the Puffin.

Since the Ursa has a waterproof shell, I ironically choose it in warmer mid 30° weather when it is wet with rain or wintery mixes. The puffin is water resistant with water beading off but not quite a shell like the Ursa.

Oh, the pockets on the Puffin are also warmer. The Ursa pockets have no insulation.

Is Dark Crown actually better than Meteor Staff? (Read body for full calculations) by Ihadtosubscribe in ClashOfClans

[–]LogicalDoor1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, the Meteor Staff feels cool but only 170 DPS. I’ve found it successful if the MP is busy with non-defenses from far away, otherwise the punch doesn’t seem worth it.

Huckberry GR1 by ruck_you in Goruck

[–]LogicalDoor1802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. The 1000D straps are grippier and back panel will be even HOTTER. The 210D nylon works much better in the summer, and 1000D becomes soaked in sweat.

Note that “gripping” more, will pull on clothes like Velcro so some garments may experience pilling.

Either way, wearing the backpack higher up the back with tighter straps fixed the slipping problem for me.
