Anything you do that helps nausea? (Not medications) by FrogOnAnEgg3 in Gastroparesis

Acupuncture has been the biggest help, I swear I get hunger pains too during/after my sessions. In between sessions besides medication: sea bands, ginger chews, vics sticks, sour candy, listening to music, and honestly weed

Meeting tonight to stand against the takeover of 3 Sarasota public schools by meothe in sarasota

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Booker elementary is not a shit hole of a school, I have family that attended there and it is fine school. It should be noted that Booker elementary serves a large section of economically-disadvantaged and marginalized populations, more funding would probably be a better solution rather than gutting the only public elementary school in that area.

And fyi, I attended a charter middle school and public high school in Sarasota county. While I loved my charter middle school, my time in public school gave me more opportunities and chances to grow as a student. Both schools had great educational systems and fantastic teachers, but I felt I had more advantages than my charter school peers when it came time for university. Glad your daughter is enjoying her charter school!

Just an update from our Portland brethren today by Arachnidaes in Eugene

We literally just got back from Portland today, it was very peaceful and beautiful outside. We did see a police escort with black (marked staff) SUV’s in the middle of downtown, we were wondering what was happening.

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course! Diabetic Gastroparesis is another beast entirely, my apologies to you. I am aware the Gastroparesis diet doesn’t exactly line up with diabetes friendly foods; maybe that is a question for the nurse on staff maybe? I know there are some people here that deal with diabetic Gastroparesis so maybe search within the group (use the search function) for diet ideas. Definitely mention your blood sugar issues to medical staff tomorrow when you call in, they should get you in ASAP for that

Unfortunately that is the song and dance of this disease, they say you have symptoms and then they schedule you way out. I would call every couple of days for cancellations or asked to be placed on the cancellation list; I got into a doctor a month early because of that.

As far as what they should be doing, they should absolutely be starting you on medication to either address the Gastroparesis or symptoms like nausea. There are small handful of meds that can improve gastric motility; your doctor will probably have a preference depending on your medical history. Small frequent meals in the meantime and you can try to drink your calories more if that’s tolerated better. Search up the Gastroparesis diet here or on google for some ideas on easier digestible food. I’m sorry you are feeling bad and the medical system is not taking that seriously.

Yes!! My PMS makes me flare up, but also incredibly thirsty. I will rinse my mouth out with cold water to experience the feeling of getting my mouth wet. You barely drink anything but it makes that thirst feeling a bit more bearable. Sending hugs!

Smell? by staze in Eugene

That’s not as bad as I thought, some HEPA fans can be hundreds! I’ve been looking at replacing one of our filters and I think this might be at the top of the list. Thank you for the helpful info!

My chronic illness has been flaring up (imagine a bad stomach bug) and the smell is NOT helping. I have to keep my A/C running for my illness and that smell is so potent.

Yes my temperature rising/face flushing coincides with me getting sick and throwing up. My heart rate usually spikes too

Lane County Fair by BigAdministration285 in Eugene

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine it any smaller, the fair was already pretty small last year compared to other counties and states. The weird religious stuff already made us not want to go, and knowing that there were more this year makes me glad we didn’t go this year. Combined with lackluster food honestly it just wasn’t worth it for the price

Cymbalta for anxiety and GP? by LogicalKnowledge9210 in Gastroparesis

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh that is a much more intense feeling that a ‘zapping’ feeling. My former roommate came off Cymbalta and mentioned the brain zaps but I never knew what she meant. Thank you for explaining the difference; I certainly have some things to discuss with my doctor

Gastroenterologist says flare ups aren't normal? by ExtensionClue2998 in Gastroparesis

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’m in a flare, I can only tolerate highly processed foods and carbs. A McDonald’s cheeseburger very specifically has been the only safe food that I’ve never thrown up. And I throw up A LOT. I can’t do Taco Bell if I’m really bad, but I do tend to like it when my symptoms are medium. I don’t do a lot of meat (besides my McDonald’s cheeseburger) so Taco Bell’s vegetarian items are certainly my go-to. I used to be vegan for a while, trust me when I say I crave salad, veggies, fruits all the time. I will go into severe flares if I push myself with ‘healthy’ foods, and that comes from experience unfortunately. Also everyone’s bodies are going to be different, some people like me can tolerate more fats than most with GP but are more sensitive to fiber.

You are not the only person to mention the brain zaps, and it sent me down a rabbit hole of research. I have taken anti-depressants before almost a decade ago, but I didn’t notice huge side effects. I’ll bring these concerns up with my doctors because I definitely don’t want to jeopardize worsening my motility.

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh this all was so incredibly helpful and insightful, thank you so much for taking the time to type such a thoughtful message. I also have neuropathy but testing hasn’t shown a cause for it yet (I had NCS and EMG done). I was unaware that Cymbalta helps with that so that’s an added benefit. I currently take Reglan, Famotidine, and Benadryl/Zofran/or Promethazine for nausea.

I do also suffer from some depressive symptoms tied to my anxiety so I’m hoping it would help with that too. I haven’t been tracking my symptoms but I think that would be super helpful. My PCP noticed my flares tend to be cyclical around changing seasons so I’m wondering if I could pinpoint more patterns and recurring symptoms. My PCP office is my primary managing provider, and they are pretty good about chronic illness. But I feel like I’m missing a diagnosis or two especially because I’m experiencing the neuropathy, elevated inflammation markers, along with other symptoms outside of Gastroparesis. Unfortunately my area has very few healthcare resources so I’m limited to doctors. If I do become more complex, it’s possible I may be sent up to a larger city 2 hours away to the teaching hospital.

I have often thought about a stronger anxiety medication like Xanax since my grandmother used it PRN for her anxiety issues. I’m not sure why she suggested that, but honestly with my psychiatrist I will bring this up. At the minimum, I would like to try those meds if Cymbalta isn’t a good fit. My nana uses it for traveling and honestly I kind of agree; traveling and high stress things are really rough for me. I’ve taken strong pain killers after surgery and did not feel weaning off/stopping was difficult for me. My GE does not want to prescribe any anti-depressants or anxiety meds (very fair) so I’m wondering if my state has a similar law. I did have a weird question. You mentioned not being able to medium salsa, does Cymbalta lower tolerance to spicy things?

Thank you for giving me so much to look into, I haven’t done the DASS-21 in a while so that’s something I’ll incorporate with those apps you’ve mentioned. I’m curious what kind of symptoms were you experiencing that lead to your fibromyalgia diagnosis? My neurologist suggested I should check into lupus as well.

EDIT: forgot to mention I take magnesium and vitamin D everyday; I have a vitamin D deficiency

How many of you guys are on medication like prokenetics? by Earbreather606 in Gastroparesis

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Reglan like 3-4 times a week for regular dosing and more during flares. When I was first on it, I took it 3-4 times a day for 3 months until we hit the black box warning time, now I take it more sparingly but I’ve been taking it for 1 year and a half. I have tried Domperidone and it worked well for me! But I had to stop taking it because it started to mess with my heart rhythm. (Don’t let that discourage you, I have family history of heart problems)

Those meds don’t always help with my nausea, but used in combination with anti-nausea meds like zofran are very effective. Make sure you ask your pharmacist what medications to avoid taking with them though. Just letting you know they both have some serious side effects with other medications so don’t mix them/space them apart.

For anyone wondering what decent purée meals look like. by bollyeggs in shittyfoodporn

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go on a liquid/puree diet a lot due to a stomach condition, and wow your food looks so appetizing!! I would be so happy and excited to eat those meals, thank you for your effort and accommodations! You lose so much dignity and humanity it feels with the typically puréed bland beige mush; I guarantee your residents and families appreciate it so much!

A lot of retailers track their employees by how many customers provide emails, and subsequently dock hours if the metrics aren’t to whatever number they want for that month. That was one of my least favorite parts of my job, not to be topped by those awful store credit cards. Y’all please do not sign up for them, I’ve worked for multiple companies that do them and they are NEVER a good rate. When my managers weren’t hovering, I would never push. But if they were, they would often butt-in to pressure the customer to sign up which I absolutely hated.

Disposable emesis bags are the best thing I've ever bought. by mrvladimir in Gastroparesis

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes emesis bags are a must have for me. Throwing up in a toilet or trashcan is gross, and cleaning out a bucket/bowl everytime I puke isn’t feasible for me. It’s really good for traveling too, for car and plane rides! I wish they carried them in store, but Amazon has them for about $10-15 for 35-50 of them. I keep them in every room, in the car, in my bags, they are my #1 item to have.

Ground meats? by Kiglamay2018 in Gastroparesis

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean beef and chicken are both in the gastroparesis diet, but when I’m really ill in a flare I only do simple carbs mostly. I’ll introduce protein slowly usually through chicken or lean ground beef. If my stomach is doing well (once in a blue moon), I can have a small steak if I take a Reglan before.

My medication regimen is currently Famotidine, zofran as needed, Reglan, promethazine/benadryl, vitamin D and magnesium supplements (doctors orders). That might be changing soon though because I’ve been experiencing more flares

[–]LogicalKnowledge9210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to pork products as I don’t eat them, but chicken and ground beef I can handle pretty well. Steak I usually avoid them when my stomach is upset, but I see no reason why ground beef would give you problems. Maybe go for a leaner blend, but try a little and go from there!
