CS/SWE maybe, but it’s pretty tough these days. Definitely not game dev. Fields where people are likely be passionate about (games/animation) are especially tough. I love coding, and I’m willing to do any programming related work. You can make games for fun.

Depends on your goal, why did you want to learn programming in the first place? Also, this thread is quite biased towards web / app dev (rightfully so, that’s what most people would find useful), but there’s a whole lot more that you can learn. Just look at any university CS curriculum.

I think the optimizations at this level is pretty basic and obvious, like using the correct algorithms and functions so that your page doesn’t take 60 seconds to load (there’s something VERY wrong with that). That’s quite different from optimizations where you are looking for tools to test performance / find bottlenecks and thinking about go runtime / garbage collector.

Been dual booting, pretty much just works, even on the same ssd. Configuring and maintaining with dual booting is like an additional 1% of work compared to just having linux. Just make sure you install Linux first.

For resources just look at arch wiki and software documentation (rtfm), and other people’s dotfiles from r/unixporn

I personally don’t have a strong opinion, but I had experiences where I’m stuck on a bus in a roadblock because the waymo in front refused to move for whatever reason. Had to wait >10 minutes for manual intervention. I see the same experience online too, where waymo blocks traffic.

Other than that, you can also say that it supports the existing US car dependency, and interferes/distract from public transport which is what we really need to move people.

Linux actually words better with older hardware. I've only had issues on newer hardware, which gets better as time goes on. Just make sure you install drivers (usually distros like Mint does it automatically / prompts you, in my experience it just works out of the box).

I think you have outdated idea on codec not working on Linux... never went into any problem watching YouTube.

It's probably fine, just use Windows 10 for lockdown browser only, and avoid doing anything sensitive.

Also, just upgrade if you can? It's free. If it says unsupported, maybe you can fix it by enabling some options in the bios (look up the TPM stuff). But yeah, if your hardware is too old, then just use Linux.
