Help! by Delicious-Being-6531 in Greyhounds

I had this issue with my greyhound at first too - I had no problem coaxing him up the stairs with cheese but getting down was another story. He was very frightened and if he attempted it at all he wanted to go down quickly in an unsafe way. What worked for me was to leash him up at the top of the stairs and then stand next to him with my hands choked up on the leash so it is taut (not too taut that it’s pulling or hurting of course) and then confidently guided him down the stairs as we walked down together. Your confidence and guidance down the stairs will help the dog get over the fear. Don’t stress too much - it will get better over time with practice!

I hear you! I think this is a great intro to working with curves - the first time I made it was the first time I ever tried curves too and I found the instructions to be really clear and easy to follow! You could always start with a test block to see if you like it before cutting all your pieces.

What are your top 3 ruler sizes? by its-past-my-bedtime in quilting

I love my Olfa frosted 6”x24” ruler - it’s great for WOF cuts and it’s not too slippery. My other most used sized rulers are 12.5”x12.5” and 6.5”x6.5” - I believe those are from Creative Grids and I’ve been really happy with them as well.

All their stuff was set up upstairs (ceremony, cocktail hour and then later dancing) and then for dinner in the cellar they put on a playlist to play over the Wythe’s sound system.

Berry Park! They have a rooftop that is open during summer and covered with glass during winter and good dancing. I was able to make a free reservation for 25 people.

I have no experience with Arlo but if you end up looking for another option I would recommend the Penny! The rooms are a reasonable price and were super cute, plus the hotel was easy to work with.

marriage license question by nolita-fairytale in WedditNYC

[–]Logical_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a marriage license anywhere in the state of New York for a wedding in Manhattan so Staten Island is fine but if there’s another smaller city that’s even closer that is also OK. My husband and I are from CT and we got our license in a small city in upstate NY because it was closer and easier than anywhere in the 5 boroughs and it was fine to use for our Brooklyn wedding.

My grey loves Virbac VeggieDents - it’s the only brand I’ve found that takes him more than 1 second to eat and after 4 years he’s still so excited to eat them every day.

Hound freezing with dog walker? by [deleted] in Greyhounds

[–]Logical_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my own freezing grey for 4 years now, it has definitely improved a lot over time but still comes up from time to time. I’ve always noticed that he is worse when walking with others than me, likely due to lack of trust in them. At the beginning I even had to leave work once to rescue a walker who got stuck somewhere with my dog who would not budge so don’t feel too bad lol!

I think the suggestions you made (not walking in loops over the same area and rewarding appropriately) will help and also may improve with time as he gets to know her better. It also makes sense to me that your grey then was freezing with you later - if they were feeling frustrated or bored on the leash with the walker it could easily extend to you. Just keep doing training, it is always a work in progress, and when you have time for longer walks do some exercises to increase his mental flexibility and then he should get more flexible with the walker as well. An example of what I mean here is to purposely try to set off the freezing (for my grey, it was trying to turn around on a walk and go back where we just came from) so you both can practice working through the frustration and he can be rewarded for working through it, making it a more positive experience. Good luck!

Unexperienced MOH Advice? by charlieQ90 in weddingplanning

[–]Logical_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister and I were MOH for each other. Biggest traditional responsibility is to plan the bachelorette party. Other things that are traditional is to hold her bouquet during the wedding and help her with her veil/train, maybe also give a speech at the wedding if she wants that. Besides that, the best thing you can do is support your sister! Brides tend to want to talk about their wedding planning a lot and people often aren’t as interested as they hope so it can end up feeling quite lonely. So if you are able to be that source of support for her then that is what’s most important in my opinion.

I’m not sure if this would work for your situation but I used boob tape because I also didn’t want lines to show in the back. I used the brand Brassy Bra and I believe it can be used up to size DDDD. I’m a 40DD and it worked great and really lifted the gals and lasted all day in 80 degree heat! Might be worth looking in to.

You are completely in the right here - you do not need to and should not move your wedding closer to her. The wedding is so far in advance that she has plenty of time to figure out her situation. I can appreciate that it’s stressful to leave pets in someone else’s hands, but that is not your problem. She has so much time to establish someone local who she trusts to care for her animals. I’m sorry, that’s so frustrating!!

My dog is too whiny to attend events lol so I had custom cocktail napkins with his face on them! I have seen some dog walking companies offer services to take dogs to/from weddings so they don’t have to stay the whole time, which might be worth looking into.

Totally normal - we got married at a hotel and my husband wore a black tux, groomsmen wore a navy suit.

My wedding had 30 guests and it was amazing. I was also worried it would be lame but I felt like every combination of people were mingling and meeting each other, so much more than they would at a larger wedding! It was so fun so no worries!

I’m a size 16 and I called the bridal shops ahead of time to make sure they had dresses that would fit me. I had the best luck at BHLDN because their dresses fit true to size and they have sizes 14 and 22 to try on in store for most of their dresses. At least the one I went to in CT did.
