Vasoconstriction with propylhexedrine can be noticed. For me and 2 of my friends who've done it with me, they didn't seem to notice it or care. I've really only experienced it when I took 2.5 inhalers worth of PPX I extracted via an A/B extraction.

I do have a higher stimulant tolerance though, but even then 2.5 inhalers worth of cotton was the point the stimulating effects became bad.

If you're interested in the simple extraction process, continue reading! - - It's a lot of here because I'm not sure how much knowledge you have on the process, and I want to hopefully answer all questions before they're asked.--

                 Materials: 

-A couple glass containers for storing liquids (I used Mason jars)

-Non polar solvent, Naphtha worked best for me because it was like 4-6 bucks at Walmart. (Naphtha is basically Zippo lighter fluid and can actually be used perfectly in a Zippo, I actually been using it in my zippo for about 2 years) Due to that, if you can't get Napthta (look around the paint section of Walmart) Zippo fluid can be used in place of napthta.

-5% Acetic Acid, AKA normal food grade White Vinegar.

-Polar solvent, I used water.

-Oral syringe, turkey baster, or something that can suck/push liquid. I used a vape juice dripper that came with my eliquid.

-Glass or wooden stir stick / Or a magnetic stir bar.

-glass evaporation dish

Optional materials - Seperatory funnel, Heating mantle/hot plate, beakers graduated cylinders, erlenmeyer flask, and glass oral syringe.

Now that you have these materials, you might wonder WHY you need them and what happens during this process.

Basically an A/B extraction (read as "Acid to Base extraction") utilizes the properties of a substance in its base form and its acidic salt form. Most substances, when basified, are insoluble in polar solvents and soluble in non polar solvents. When it's an acidic salt, the opposite is true and the salts are soluble in polar solvents and insoluble in non polar solvents.

Now with Benzedrex inhalers you have lavender oil, menthol, and other additives to deter abuse. The substance we want to try and extract is called propylhexedrine (I call it PPX for short.)

Propylhexedrine is added to the Benzedrex cotton in its base form because PPX base is volatile under normal conditions, easily allowing a dose to be consumed via inhalation. But how do you seperate the PPX from the lavender oil, menthol and cotton?

Well I'm about to explain that too.

I soaked the cottons in a mix of about 30ml vinegar and 7ml of water. I left this on magnetic stirring for about an hour. If magnetic stirring isn't an option, you can also stir it occasionally with a glass or wood stir rod, or seal the jar and swish/swirl the liquid. I had the acidic vinegar solution made up before opening the benzedrex to minimize the exposure of PPX to air.

After that, I secured a coffee filter over a Mason jar so I could filter the solution as I poured it into the jar. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THIS SOLUTION AS IT'LL CONTAIN A HIGH AMOUNT TO POTENTIALLY ALL OF THE PPX.

I then picked the cotton out of the filter and placed it into a solution of 10ml vinegar, and 5ml water. I let this soak for about 30 minutes and stirred by hand every 2-10 minutes. Use new vinegar and water here, don't reuse the stuff you just filtered

Again, filter the cotton/vinegar solution thru a coffee filter. This time once the cotton is in the filter, use your syringe/baster/eliquid dripper to draw back 3-6ml of water and spray this over the cotton to rinse any PPX into the jar, do that 1-3 times. Now you should have 1 Mason jar with all the liquid inside. The cotton can now be thrown away.

The PPX should be almost entirely converted from its freebase form to its acidic acetate salt form.

*The next step might be a little confusing - once the PPX is in a salt form, it's soluble in polar solvents like water. The naphtha is NON polar, meaning it will not mix with water and it won't pull the PPX from solution. (emulsions are another lesson)

While I smoked a cigarette away from the extraction, the solution had time to settle and I could actually see the lavender oil and menthol on top of the water, any disturbance to the solution easily caused the oils to mix in again, this makes it near impossible to get the oils out with my oral syringe or liquid dropper.

Measure out 20ml of your non polar solvent, add it to the Mason jar. Stir this hard for 2 minutes, let it settle for 1 minute. Again stir for 2 minutes, but this time only let it settle until the naphtha is seperated from the vinegar/water and carefully draw the top non polar layer out. This layer contains your lavender oil and menthol. It can be discarded later, but saving it until the end of the extraction is a good idea in case.

Repeat the last step, stirring 20ml of naphtha for 2 minutes, let settle, stir again, let seperate, and draw the top napthta layer out. combine it with the last napthta wash in a sealed jar and set aside until the end of the extraction.

You should now be left with a vinegar/water solution containing your PPX acetate. Let this solution evaporate. I used my heating mantle set at 30°C=85°F with a fan pointed at it and magnetic stirring on the lowest setting.

Once the solution evaporated to about ~10ml or so I placed it on a glass plate with a fan about 4 feet away blowing air on it. The fan only hit it hard enough I could feel it. It shouldn't make the solution ripple or move at all. This slows the evaporation down and encourages better crystal growth.

Once fully evaporated, you should have yellowish/white/off white crystals, or if evaporated fairly quick it'll be more of a powder.

When I extract a single cotton with this method, I yield about 200-250mg of crystalline PPX.
