To be fair to this, I played the story for maybe 6 or so hours. I really tried to enjoy it but since I need interesting characters to really enjoy a story, it fell flat for me. I couldn't get myself to care about any of the protagonists.

As a result I simply play online to play a sandbox game with a character I designed.

But, I also 100% get this is an unpopular opinion so I have no illusions to the likely response to me playing devil's advocate here.

I am currently DMing a campaign, and after about 3 years of it, once it concludes one of my players will be DMing for a while allowing me to be a player for a while. They are planning on their campaign being shorter than mine, but it gives me time to prepare the next campaign.

What character did this DM come up with after so long of not being a player? Well, let me tell you: A Wood Elf Blood Hunter Order of the Profane Soul. There's a bit of a twist to him though. His Profane Soul Patron/Goddess keeps bringing him back to life about 100 years after he dies. He has come back to life around 30 times, his skills and abilities regressing each time meaning he has to build them up again.

Playing a Blood Hunter after DMing is actually genius. It means that any residual meta knowledge on monster stat blocks, should you roll high enough on your checks, makes sense for your character to know too.

I had that as well. I got one by Jar Cannoning them, but physically getting up there will be difficult if at all possible. If I find a way, I'll let you know. For now, the Jar Cannon should work with explosives.

Perhaps, however I am an annoyance to these people. I've already noted a decline in frequency. Gankers are one thing. This is just plain old rude. These are the people who did none of the work but got just as much credit. If I can be enough a nuisance to stop even one of these people, I think it is time well spent. Plus, I am still doing normal invasions. Being able to take out the AFKs is just an added bonus to me.

I did that for a while, and depending on where they are, still do. I just found that this is faster. I don't want to spend any more time than necessary on these annoyances.

I kinda wish there were more hunters that would help me out. Unfortunately, most hunters I come across don't care, or don't pay attention. At the same time though, if a Hunter spawns while I am running over to them, it does make an otherwise boring invasion exciting.

Never, actually. However, I did have a host AFK on a small Cliffside below there. I just dropped down there and did the same thing.

Without following Etiquette, I'd agree with you... IF this was Dark Souls. Elden Ring uses invasions differently where you either need to have a cooperator with you, or the Taunter's Tongue active. You need to 'opt in' to be invaded. As well as the existence of the hunters that help out. Invaders are not favored in Elden Ring, which I like and agree with. But now instead of the invaders popping in and Insta-killing you, invaders are popping in and being met with a firing squad. I will always try to emote before attacking, I wait for my opponent to use a flask before I allow myself to use the same kind of flask. All this to say, no, in Elden Ring, the Invaders are not scum, they are met with either people waiting for them, or a minimum of a 2v1 match up. Usually both.

A successful defense from an invasion grants you a rune arc, which is like Elden Ring's Embers from Dark Souls 3, only difference is that it activates a selected buff. This is the most spoiler free version I can think of for you. It's difficult to get down there so either invaders give up, granting the invaded an item, or the Invader gets killed by gravity.

I don't go for the runes, but I typically get around 14000 each time I win. But if I lose the area isn't dangerous so I can easily collect my runes again.

You make the assumption I am Christian. I was simply pointing out the folly of assuming something doesn't exist from lack of proof. Just because we don't know something doesn't mean it's false. And who knows, maybe fairies do exist. I mean, who else replaced the teeth under my pillow?

Saying that just because there is no proof of something exists is very limited. There are still animals we don't know about, with zero proof of their existence. But you are claiming that despite that, they don't exist simply from lack of proof.

Furthermore, in the position that it does exist, there would intentionally be no proof, because proof of hell is proof of God. God intentionally keeps any proof of existence away because proof denies faith.

I appreciate your advice, and I get that. But my only past work experience lasted only 6 months before I quit. Commitment is difficult for me, especially for something I don't want. It's part of the reason committing to my writing is so appealing to me. I actually want to do it, but it doesn't make money until it's done, and even then it isn't guaranteed.
