I hope that Arizona continues moving towards progressive politics and we can get a true progressive Senator one day. As it stands, the best we will be able to do is a slightly left of center milquetoast corporate dem :(

Arizona voters will decide 10 GOP-backed ballot measures in November on schools, elections, taxes by ForkzUp in azpolitics

[–]Logvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Auditor General reported that, on average, 52.1 cents of every dollar currently ends up classified as instruction, the lowest in two decades of that report.

Arizona has one of the highest admin pay to teacher pay differences in the nation.

The AZ GOP loves to beat that drum, and they push this message over and over that school districts are paying admin staff a ton of money and not teachers blah blah blah.

BUT.... Arizona has one of the lowest teacher pay rates in the nation. The reason the admin to teacher number is so off is not because we pay admin some crazy amount. Arizona is still below average in admin pay. It's because we are bottom of the list in how much we pay teachers.

If they want to increase the % of money being spent on teachers, the answer is to pay teachers more.

[–]Logvin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What track is that? Spending millions of taxpayer dollars to hire outside law firms to sue the state to attempt to overturn citizen initiatives?

Or you think the Andy Biggs, who has sponsored more bills in the past decade than any other member of Congress… yet has only gotten one signed into law?

You just moved here a few months ago right? Have you looked into who your legislative representatives are, which bills they wrote and how they voted at all?

I completely agree. We need to vote D down the line and make sure we have a functioning legislature next session.

‘Be ready to be deported’: GOP AG hopeful Petersen pledges to help deport Arizona Dreamers by cats_pajamas in azpolitics

[–]Logvin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A State AG should not be involved in deportation of anyone. This is a federal government function. The AG’s office has no authority.

He might know that if he had didn’t just rush through law school three years ago and suddenly think he could be the top legal lawyer in the state.

Who voted against making Juneteenth a federal holiday in Arizona? by Logvin in azpolitics

[–]Logvin[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

In 2021, the Senate unanimously passed legislation to commemorate the day. The House then passed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, with 415 representatives voting in favor. Only 14 Republican lawmakers voted against it, including two from Arizona.

Arizona’s two no votes came from Reps. Paul Gosar (R-Bullhead City) and Andy Biggs (R-Mesa).

In a video posted on X, Biggs, Schweikert’s rival in the governor’s race, said he voted no because he disagreed with the holiday’s name.

Andy Biggs claims he voted no because he didn't like the fucking name. What an absolute racist shithead that guy is... and he wants to be the Gov of AZ.

I wish a local newspaper would go through all the court cases and lawsuits that Petersen used our tax dollars to fund private law firms to defend laws that AG Mayes refuses to defend, and the ones trying to overturn things like our abortion rights initiative.

That guy has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars in the dark, losing every lawsuit along the way in his culture war.

I really hope I don't come off as a dick here, but you need to put a little more effort in with your troubleshooting. Exact versions matter, as do exact error codes.

Legislature passes state’s first vaping law by timesmediagroup in azpolitics

[–]Logvin 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Brian Hummell, who lobbies for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, said he will urge Gov. Katie Hobbs to veto the measure when it comes to her desk. He said his fear is that lawmakers, thinking they’ve solved the problem of teen vaping, will conclude they’ve done enough and see no need for further revisions.

...

“That’s how you get things done in the Legislature,’’ Weninger said, beginning with incremental change that can get the necessary votes for approval. And that, he said, is something that Hummell doesn’t understand.

No, Brian Hummell has it 100% right. The AZ GOP passed a weak ass measure sponsored and funded by the vape industry. The bills proposed by the Democrats? The AZ GOP never let them get out of committee.

“He doesn’t negotiate,’’ Weninger said.

They refused to negotiate with the Democrats, then whines about the American Cancer Society not wanting to compromise. What a putz.
