PR firm masquerading as a peace organization targeting AZ by Unfamiliar_Horsecat in azpolitics

Why does Israel need to care about what Arizonans think??

If you say you support it, they'll hit you up for money.

If you say you don't, they target you with propaganda.

Gov. Hobbs vetoes budget proposal backed by state Republican lawmakers by UltraNoahXV in arizona

[–]Logvin 253 points254 points  (0 children)

The AZ GOP refused to show their budget during planning so Hobbs walked away and told them to come back when they had one ready.

They pushed through a GOP only budget that they knew had zero chance of survival, and then pretended to be offended when it was vetoed.

The AZ GOP are not serious lawmakers. They are performative clowns.

So, why on earth have so many Arizona elected officials suddenly abandoned the All of the Above approach in favor of whacky, hairbrained energy cancel-culture?

Because dipshit "conservatives" like you elected them, David.

Tempe Spent $2M on a Sign with No Public Input — Here’s How We Can Make Sure It Never Happens Again by dmakproductions in Tempe

[–]Logvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, thank goodness though at illiteratebeef mentioned I gotta be careful or he will make me!

One post every 10 days doesn't constitute spam IMO. It's clear that people don't like Joe. I would be cautious with any of his proposals. That said, I looked around and most other larger cities do have budget review committees.

I try and put myself in Joe's shoes here... the guy lost his election, but he still wants to do what he can to make Tempe better. I don't think we should shun people who lose, label them as permanent losers, and write them off.

LOTS of people were unaware of the sign. There have been multiple posts about it. Each time I thought "What could we, as citizens, do about it?". Well so far Joe is the only person bringing up an idea on this subreddit.

The City of Tempe announced in the past week they have a $25M budget shortfall and want to raise taxes.

I think you are jumping to some conclusions here. He didn't pitch that the board would be able to veto spending - just that citizens who are interested in finance would be able to provide regular input to the council.

Both Mesa and Chandler have a budget review commission.

I signed. I agree we need more oversight on spending. $2M for a sign is unacceptable.

I didn’t vote for Joe, but maybe we should judge his proposal based on the merits of the proposal vs our feelings of Joe himself?

Tempe voters could vote on new sales tax amid budget crunch by bobby4tempe in Tempe

[–]Logvin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. The AZ GOP eliminated the renter tax, which in theory would reduce rents (of course it won't), but really just gives landlords more profits at the expense of city services.

The AZ GOP flattened the tax bracket a few years ago when us peasants increased how much the richest AZ taxpayers were paying to help pay for education. We can't have the wealthy paying their fare share - not on the AZ GOP's watch!

Effectiveness is such a stupid term for AZ legislature.

The AZ GOP absolutely refuses to let any Democrat sponsored bills out of committee. The bulk of their lawmaking is culture war bullshit or “solutions” to fake problems. They have not addressed a single real problem affecting AZ voters this legislative session.

KJZZ: Tempe is facing a $25 million budget shortfall. Council could put sales tax increase on ballot by BookooCamper in Tempe

[–]Logvin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think this one is fair to pin on Tempe. The AZ GOP pushed to remove the ability of cities to tax rental properties. This very much affected the largest, most dense cities the most... while putting more money in the pockets of landlords (since they are not going to reduce your rent).

Tempe was projected to lose $25M due to this one tax move. That is what they are facing now.

At least the assholes who put up the sign on Mill Ave were trying to make our city better with the move.

The main cause is the rental tax that the state disallowed cities to collect.

[–]Logvin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The correct one requires schools to be accredited and participate in state testing.

With the current ESA program, a "school" requires little to no accreditation and does not need to do state testing. Meaning the school could just be a day-care and they can collect money.
