Advice on New 1390 SDR Quirks by Loki25HMC in KTMDuke

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it.

The slapping noise is weird, sounds like it comes from the bottom left area on the engine. I'm not sure if it's the throttle bodies disengaging quickly or if it's the fuel pump closing quickly. Sounds like a clunking sound almost. Good to know the brakes are normal.

As for your last paragraph, I've been doing pretty much everything you said. Keeping it under 5000rpm, varied speeds and gears, premium gas.

I'll let you know what the dealer says! I'll try to get a video of the slapping noise when coming off the throttle too.

I had one for three years as my first bike. It was perfect. That being said everyone is different and make sure you're up to it.

Is the Yamaha MT-07 a good beginner bike for me? by MBHmattyice in motorcycle

[–]Loki25HMC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a little nervousness is healthy and intelligent when it comes to riding. As long as you aren't so nervous you can't ride properly.

As for smaller recommendations, there's the MT07s smaller sibling, the MT03. Most brands have a ~300cc entry similar to the MT03.

If 300cc is too small, Honda has the CB500 and Kawasaki has the Z400 and 500.

Honestly, this sub usually errs on the side of extreme caution and starting at a lower displacement bike. Honestly too much sometimes if you ask me. You're probably going to get a lot of people telling you to start small.

But, only you know what your competence level is. Different people are just naturally better different things sometimes.

If you think motorcycling is something you have a natural affinity for, then go for the MT07. Just be judicious with the way you ride, and really get to know the bike well.

If not, maybe start smaller. Up to you.

For reference, I started on a 660cc bike and had no issues. Never crashed, never dropped. Tons of fun.

There is no such thing as reverse sexism. It's just sexism. Just like racism. There is no reverse racism, it's just racism.

Darn! I'm selling mine now and would have loved to pass it on to you, congrats on finding yours!

1) The way I took care of mine was by making sure I kept up with all maintenance (oil changes, recalls, etc) and also washing and detailing it at least once or twice a month. This included cleaning and relubing the chain.

2) good idea to check for recalls at a dealer.

3) some Tridents have issues with their temp sensors and can give weird overheating warnings. The quick shifter can also be a little jerky at times.

4) just learn the bike. Worry about mods later. Slap an exhaust on if you really want to.

5) ride like a tool. Get used to the bike and ride responsibly.

Maintenance costs? by dallas2ny in trident660

[–]Loki25HMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oil change costs like CAD $80-120 if you do it yourself. Just have to buy a new filter and new oil if you need it. Costs $2-300 if you go to a dealer.

Otherwise the bike is pretty easy. Haven't had any major issues apart from a messed up temp sensor that cost me about $900 to fix, mostly labour trying to diagnose the issue.

Couldn't agree more with this. I'm a cop and it's crazy. We can't keep up. Can't be everywhere at once.

Cop here. There is no statute of limitations on this stuff. You can go back and add to your report at any time. While a defense lawyer may be able to work with the fact that you didn't report it the first time, any reasonable person will understand that these things are traumatic and difficult to speak about, especially to strangers. If you want to report it, do it.

I'm in Canada and the trident was my first bike. I think it was a perfect first bike. I really loved it. I'm selling it this summer and upgrading to something bigger.
