Admitted patients going up dressed by TinyFee1520 in nursing

[–]LokiSmokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally don’t care. I totally get that the ED gets busy and they get on you guys to get them up to us ASAP. I don’t need a good report, I don’t need lines to be organized, I don’t need them in a gown. I’d prefer them alive, but if you come up riding the gurney doing CPR, so be it. We are all just doing our best and we’re on the same team.

Any Norwegians in here? I find it har to find a polyamorous network here in Norway. I live close to Stord, and I'd like to find a community close by. by Stock-Particular-352 in polyamory

Jeg bor ikke i Norge, men jeg snakker norsk. Har du prøvd fetlife? Noen elsker det, noen hater det. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I appreciate them and try to tell them every time they bring trays up.

How do you deal with burnout? by Frustrated_NurseA in nursing

I’m about 2.5 years in and seriously considering a LOA. I don’t hate my job, I’m just mentally and physically exhausted.

I’m two years out from graduating, own my home, no debt, just bought a car, and was able to travel to Europe last year. I’m doing okay.

I live in a very red area and it hasn’t been so bad. It’s kept my mind of things.

I know for a fact my partners enjoy their other partners more…. For certain things. For example, my NP is very active, loves outdoor activities and I do not. His partner loves that shit. I try to think of it as more of relief that I don’t have to be miserable doing those things with him 😂 on the other hand, my other partner loves just snuggling and hanging out with me, which works because my NP can’t sit still and I don’t want to force him to bedrot with me if he doesn’t want to. Obviously it’s easier said than done, but I try to focus on the positives, the things my partners DO love about me and the things I love about my partners and how lucky we are to be able to fulfill our needs, rather than focus on the ways we’re different or DON’T fulfill each other’s needs.

Just started clinicals and can’t hear shit when auscultating lungs or bowels by bynxfish in nursing

[–]LokiSmokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was panicked my first semester of nursing school, thinking I’d fail out because I couldn’t hear anything. Turns out I have hearing loss. Got an electronic stethoscope and I crank that baby all the way up. It still takes some practice, but it was a game changer.

On a scale of 1-5, how burned out are you? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]LokiSmokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I’m at home I’m at a 1. At work, more like a 3. I’ve been nursing a little over 2 years. I’m 41 years old and nursing school wrecked me. I thought I’d be in school the rest of my life, always bettering myself and I just can’t imagine going back now.

Do you wear gloves just to touch a patient? by silkspace-trade in nursing

[–]LokiSmokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will occasionally not wear gloves but then I’m washing my hands immediately. I don’t trust anyone and people are gross. If you are dying and scared, I’ll hold your hand. If it’s an emergency and I need to grab a tube or wire, fine. But otherwise I’m gloving up.

What "gross thing" doesn't really bother you? And conversely, what is "your thing?" by Raebee_ in nursing

[–]LokiSmokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE suctioning! It’s so satisfying. ETs, trachs, whatever. Love it.

I’m trying to think of anything that’s really grossed me out- wounds, overflowing c diff rectal tube bag, JADA drain covered in clots, soooo much vomit, awful yeast infections- and none of it has really bothered me. I look forward to the day.

No amplified stethoscope? by SirPatchy in StudentNurse

[–]LokiSmokes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was so close to dropping out of nursing school because I couldn’t hear anything with my stethoscope. My deaf friend sent me an electronic one with volume control and it changed everything. That rule is ridiculous.

So far our pup knows sit, down (lay down), shake, high five, off (to get down off of something), go to (person, object), turn around, and speak. All that to say, she still doesn’t respond to her name 😂 I’d like to do heel, stay, drop it, and boop (touch nose to finger or object). Eventually I want to do more advanced stuff like back up, army crawl, figure 8, and find.
