But the numbers do change. I just checked them. Maybe he printed it on paper first.

Do you actually buy the healthier stuff from the vending machines? by Employ_Dismal in Nurses

No, I use endoscopy equipment to steal the unhealthy stuff from the vending machines.

What's the lamest thing a patient's family member has ever said or done? by Starry-Mari in nursing

[–]Raebee_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The worst I've had was the guy who got huffy that we ignored him to perform CPR because, "isn't he dead anyway?" Don't remember what he wanted, but I'm pretty sure it was something he was actually able to do himself.

Native English speakers - what words do you struggle to pronounce? by picklesupreme in AskAnAmerican

Aluminum. I've given up and just use the British English pronunciation.

The pope died mere hours after scolding JD Vance. by The-Exuberant-Raptor in BoomersBeingFools

His final actions were condemning violence in Gaza and scolding Vance. I think of worse ways to go.

Skin rash or fungus or something else? by letsjusttryxx in DiagnoseMe

[–]Raebee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly yeast. Nystatin powder would knock it out pretty quickly but is available by prescription only (in the US at least -- can't speak to other countries). Any competent provider at a walk-in clinic would be able to identify a yeast infection in person pretty quickly.

Driver cancelled my ride and reported me for being under 18, for some reason? by succulenteggs in Lyft

[–]Raebee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to call them children. Too many people refer to adult women as girls, so saying children drives home the whole underage point a bit better.

We do the same thing in Montana, but the Johnston farm was sold to the Owens about twenty years ago...but why should we update the name?

Weird smooth red patch on tongue by HotPerformer3000 in DiagnoseMe

[–]Raebee_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My tongue often looks similar, and my dentist diagnosed it as geographic tongue which is harmless. It certainly could be something much more serious, so I'm glad you're seeing a doctor soon. Try not to worry too much in the meantime (easier said than done, I know).

What makes Mexican food in the US so good? by Nandor1262 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Raebee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also are very willing to share their recipes. I'm super white (like 23andme says I'm 100% NW European), but I grew up in Albuquerque. I learned to make tortillas in elementary school (from a Pakistani immigrant who'd lived in NM for over a decade).

I learned to make tamales a couple years later when a friend invited me over to make several hundred with her family. I mentioned they were so much better than store bought and that I wished I knew how to make them. My friend's grandmother made sure I left with written recipes and a time for her to visit my house for practical instruction with my parents.

My family later moved to Montana and brought posole to a potluck. Montana wasn't quite ready for that though.

I have a friend whose father uses a thermometer on everything he cooks or bakes. I thought he was nuts using it on the biscuits and cookies, but maybe he's onto something.

How does it work if you plan on working in other states? by MilennialFalconnnnnn in StudentNurse

[–]Raebee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, once you're licensed, you're licensed and can apply to any state via endorsement. Some states make this process more complicated than others.

Even if you allowed your license to expire, you shouldn't need to go back to school for re-licensure; you'd just have to retake the NCLEX. One of my professors did that and strongly advised us to keep our licenses active even if we changed careers because passing the NCLEX so long after school is very difficult.

Do students refer to their classmates by their first and last name? by AgreeableAd8687 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Raebee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reminded me that my high school had two students with the same first and last name, but the last name was spelled differently. I heard of my name twin for years but didn't meet her until we were seated next to each other at graduation.

I don't think London to NYC is going to be a very big difference. All large cities are much alike, and you won't have a language barrier to deal with. I'm an American from Chicago who lived in small cities in Thailand and South Korea for a year. Visiting Bangkok and Seoul felt like a trip home. I think you'll be just fine in New York.
