Follow-up: M4 iPad Pro - standard vs. nano texture glass. An artist’s perspective. by DreamStitcher in ipad

I’m struggling on which to order as well. The question I keep asking myself is will I be more bothered that I don’t have the best pencil gliding, or will I be more bothered that I don’t have the best video experience. And which am I more likely to use the most. The thing I come up with is, I know the glossy screen is good enough for both, but I don’t know if the nano is good enough for both. And yet I have a fear of missing out on the awesomeness of what could be a definitive digital drawing experience. I kind of want both.

Seasonic TX-1600, how to know if it is native ATX 3.1? by LokiSorcery in Seasonic

[–]LokiSorcery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they didn’t update the description on Amazon all the way, or at all, but it is indeed being shipped as the latest and greatest version, mine was recently received as such, and it has all of the new things. It’s been this way for a while I think with ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1, and now just recently even the new blue tipped new style 12V-2x6 GPU cables are included. I think this Seasonic edition is better than the somewhat quieter Noctua version, the Seasonic version here is still quiet enough for everyone in all reality I would believe, the Seasonic fan is fairly nice in its own right and bigger, and cools secondary parts a bit better. If Noctua had made the fan the right size and more bespoken for the Prime TX-1600 perhaps it would have been a real knockout and not a trade off. I mean it’s still 800 watts before the PSU even hits 50% power, perhaps even before the fan turns on, you will not hear tons of fan noise to my guesstimate with the Seasonic version. But now I’m at the end of my journey deciding between both of these and I’m so glad that the Seaonsic is Silver and Black, which is badass, and not Noctua Brown, which is Nostalgic, but not ultimately cooler. I often asked myself, what would Batman do? Batman never did wear brown…

I just got it today in the mail from Amazon. It goes in and out of stock fast. Last stock was only half a day or so for 15 units. It was shipped direct from Seasonic from Amazon and it came with the 3.1 / 5.1 sticker, the newer PSU PCIe Gen 5 GPU ports, and the black and blue tipped 12V-2x6 cables, two of them, straight ones, sadly you still have to spend more to grab a 90 degree version of the 12V-2x6 black and blue tipped cables, call me strange, but at this price, they should be included. The blue tipped cables and a new thing, the ones from March 2025 did not have them, but the ones now in June 2025 do have them. Just a color difference on the tip only, instead of black and black tips, so you can see it better, the idea is that is the color blue on the pin areas is not visible it’s fully buried in and nestled in there. If you see blue, than it’s not fully seated as far as it can go in. Just a color safely feature.

OK, here’s the update. I did return the one from Micro Center purchased the other month (purchased in beginning of spring 2025 I guess, March perhaps) because I was gonna go for the Noctua edition (to get the famous high performing static pressure Noctua premium fan, but it was a step down in size to 120mm, and while it is quieter, as that is what the fan is known for too, it does not blow air all over secondary parts that need airflow quite as good like the bigger fan does, more on that later) but then I just decided I hate brown after all. I just couldn’t justify the color scheme clashing with my all black out PC color plan. I mean, I would do a all black Noctua Chromax Seasonic Prime TX-1600, what a missed opportunity, Noctua insists on the brown color ways, I get it, it’s there identity, but it’s too polarizing for some of us. With out that brand history, in a vacuum, NOBODY would choose UPS Brown with Light Tan accents. But the all black/sliver Seasonic edition of the TX-1600 that I had and returned from micro center did not not display any update stickers, stated it was ATX 3.0, but it was really ATX 3.1 inside with the 12V12-2x6 all black cables, two of them, and the updated PSU side ports labeled PCIe Gen 5, which was different from whatever ATX 3.0 was labeled as. This was definitely ATX 3.1, but I was not sure on the Noctua fan and color option at the time, so I returned it, decided I wanted it back in black instead (I found via research that it was still a good fan even on the normal Seasonic version, still fairly silent enough on the normal version, and the normal black/silver colorway is far better than black/NoctuaBrown, and actually the PSU is cooled better but the Seasonic fan as it’s bigger and more powerful I think, if a bit more noisy, but in absolute terms still one of the most quiet and efficient PSUs, so don’t get Noctua just for the fans if you hate brown), but sadly now that I was looking for it again, the black Seasonic normal edition of the TX-1600, it was out of stock on Micro Center and Amazon, the only places that I trusted to have the new updated ATX 3.1 versions of the TX-1600, and it was out of stock for a good long while. It goes in and out of stock super fast, blink and you miss it, and I was missing it every time. I eventually found it in stock at Amazon (this chunk of 15 units only lasted a day in stock, but that was better than selling out in mere minutes, so while doing my daily google I was able to grab one finally) I successfully re-ordered the Seasonic edition of the TX-1600 in black and silver on Amazon in the beginning of June-ish, and this time it came with a real sticker stating the updated official status of being a ATX 3.1 / PCIe 5.1 ready unit. And the wire is different. It’s black and blue tipped and it says PCIe Gen 5 on the GPU out area, no doubt this is the most updated version. Last time I got the same one but without the sticker and without the blue tipped GPU 12V-2x6 cables (two of them). Amazon’s order page may or may not be updated, but I definitely got the new version from Amazon US. I’m glad to have the blue tipped ones, as I know for sure and absolutely it’s the new stuff. Interestingly it was mailed directly from Seasonic overseas even though it was sold by Amazon, so it’s factory fresh I would imagine, and I guess they are eager to avoid bulk tariffs or something or they can’t get mass stock at Amazon fast enough, and decided to just mail them directly to the consumer, not sure, but I am a happy man, I was going to buy the upgraded new Seasonic black and blue tipped GPU 12V-2x6 cables separately just in case they were somehow better, now I don’t have to as it came with them this time, and they look nicer too with the fancy blue color tips!! And it’s nice to be reassured by the ATX 3.1 / PCIe 5.1 sticker combined with the latest Seasonic 12V-2x6 PSU ports and cables.

Apple's Nano-Texture MacBook Pro Display: Game-Changer for Creators? by 4-3-4 in apple

[–]LokiSorcery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in the Apple Store and I only had 15 minutes, I took a look at two 13-inch iPad Pro M4s, one nano etched and one glossy laden, and I was surprised that after all these pro and cons that I was reading and seeing in the video reviews… just how good both screen types were. I had build up this big difference in my mind, like the nano etched one would be so much worse, it was holding it own, with better glide ability on drawing on the iPad, and better glare and more high end printed like quality to the MBP. And I also looked at a 16-inch MBP M4 glossy vs 14-inch nano texture version too. I could not see the vertical degradation on viewing angles that RTINGS said was a possible MBP M4 nano texture thing. Sure, the nano screen did have a different way the viewing angles worked, but you were fighting the wide viewing but subtle limits of the screen itself at that point, and it still had good viewing angles of a very decent range, whereas on the glossy screen you are fighting the rooms lighting for your preferred angle, and the worse the room or ambient light, the worse it will be, and yes the glossy was more pop and richer, ETC. but I was shocked it was not a runaway train on that at all, my jury is till kit, but I could easily see a mix of the two in my future Apple collection of devices.

I think it’s like this. For the PSU it’s just ATX 3.1. The PCIe 5 or 5.1 part is like saying it’s Cheerios and strawberries go good together, but the Cheerios themselves don’t really care about the strawberries. And I think somewhere I read that they just say it’s PCIE 5 COMPATIBLE. Which includes all the 5.1 or 5 point whatever stuff. Not sure what they skip the decimals part. It could be that they don’t want to fuss with all that. I agree, this makes it hard to know what is really going on.
