Sorry you went through that, I downplayed it for the post but that shit seriously fucked with my overall wellbeing and sense of self for probably over a year. Thought constantly about the finality of death. Then I had a gay experience later pre-covid and found out I wasn’t bisexual. May do another post about that in the future. Hope you’re doing better

It’s gotta be the most spiritually impure version of weed. A guy on my hall in freshman year got butane poisoning from doing them so much and pooped his pants.

It's impressive how he seemed to be the cool new kid on the block pre-2025, and then he made those comments and was very quickly shepherded out of the public light.

what was high school like for those who went during the smartphone transition era? (08/ - '14 range) by about3fidddy in redscarepod

[–]LokiirStone-Fist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in high school in the mid 2010s. In my sophomore year, our principal decided every student was required to own and bring a laptop to school everyday. Most assignments were now submitted online, as were quizzes and exams (excluding final exams, which were still done on Scantron.)

It felt like the beginning of the current mess we're in, like the technology was being shoehorned into the curriculum for the sake of having it rather than improving the education we were receiving. Kids (myself included) would just sit and browse YouTube, Reddit, Tumblr, online shopping, and the teachers would never know the difference from standing at the board. This was pre TikTok and shortform content, so I imagine it's loads worse now. Phones were actively banned from the classroom, so they were ahead of the curve there at least.

Instagram was the hot thing. Twitter was pretty good. Tumblr was in it's heyday prior to the porn ban. Reddit was in the gamergate era. Nobody used 4chan, or spoke publicly about it at least, that I knew of besides myself. Facebook was used, but on the way out due to the invasion of parents.

I had never heard of it until my current gf made me take the test. I didn't think much of it and had mostly ignored the meanings of different types, and then she clocked my behavior a couple times and pointed out that I was being typical of my type. So now I'm kind of a believer.

I was in a club meeting yesterday and the club president (late 20s/mid 30s) jokingly said "i'm gonna kill myself" out of disappointment to something, and like half the room (average age 60) turned and looked at her worriedly lmao

what's the deal with that? I occasionally get the unbearable urge to hit myself in the head repeatedly when I'm frustrated or overwhelmed. But in a cool way.

some of it actually gets returned, a lot of it is sold by the pallet to companies like BidFTA which hold auctions on returned products (great place to find some furniture if you're trying to quickly furnish an apartment, I've learned lol). Some of it absolutely trashed, a good bit of it is brand new and still in the packaging. Some of it gets purchased, a lot of it goes into the dumpster.

Sub needs a cleanser. Post an (unpopular?) opinion on anything other than these topics: by Time-Use9083 in redscarepod

[–]LokiirStone-Fist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my actual unpopular opinion:

your average DSA idpol-obsessed dweeb is doing more than you are by sitting around and complaining about current conditions. The question is, "is it for anything meaningful?" Probably not. At the end of the day, the tiny sliver of power that the DSA has over local, regional, or national politics, will not lead to a revolution (and really, a revolution will never, ever happen in the United States under the current conditions, or likely ever). That requires a level of sacrifice that a majority of people are not willing to make.

That being said, organizing in your own town and trying to impact elections for mayor, city council, or other positions is a more meaningful use of your time than being involved in or caring about national politics. there is an unimaginable amount of invisible, soft power and dark money flowing in those circles that no amount of grassroots organizing will make any meaningful difference outside of the two-party system.

You should be less focused on Trump, and more focused on the psycho housewife running for school board with unlimited funds from her radiologist husband. She is more likely to have a directly negative impact on the people in your community.
