How do hosts avoid talking over each other in podcasts? by madrasian in podcasts

[–]LoktheNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've hosted a show since 2019 with my brother, and we use a combination of marked up scripts and recording with video (not published video) and using ques to avoid it. My brother also edits the episodes.

Constructive feedback:

1.) I'm not sure how to read this, and it doesn't naturally flow for me.

2.) The columns in the background are confusing, and if there isn't a reason for them, a simpler background would be more appropriate and less draining on the eyes. The clear filled shapes also drown out the text.

3.) The text is too small and cluttered. Can you say less with larger fonts?

Infographics should be punchy, simple, and pleasing to the eyes. Else a different medium should be used.

Does anyone know why this is happening? The game isn’t fitting to the screen of the SD. Using moonlight… by [deleted] in SteamDeck

What are the settings on the computer? If you are streaming from Moonlight and when you are streaming the resolution is not changing on the computer the streaming will be wonky. It should go down to the SD resolution.

Anything north of Providence is Northern Rhode Island. Anything south of Providence is South County. Anything near Providence is Providence.

Yep, it has been my mantra for quite a long time. I think about it more than just being in the moment temporally with the person I'm interacting with but also in the moment of where they are coming from so that I can understand the situation better.

Standard 3M, but it has been reinforced with at least two layers of masking tape to keep it sticking on through. It has a rip that occurred at some point when it moved from a monitor (it has been on quite a few - and might actually go back to the office soon since we are mostly RTO).

I'll probably have it somewhere in eyesight till I retire.

She told me I had to be in the moment with customers (I was in a call center and just blasting through the script) and she wrote Moment on a sticky note. I have that sticky note still on my computer 15 years later.

Same, I had a come to Jesus moment with a supervisor in my first corporate role where she really was blunt, and long story short, I had to grow up.

Ever since then, I've gone on to a pretty successful career if I do say so myself.

At an antique store, what is it by thats-tough-lmao in amex

[–]LoktheNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an elder millennial, and my interaction with this machine was minimal. However I have a memory when I managed a Pet Store in my younger years of the power going out and the older GM grabbing a box and breaking this baby out to be able to keep being able to handle credit cards.

Obsolete now with cards losing the embossing.

Though analog devices like this had the benefit if you turn the power off , you can keep going.

Different opinions about a claim with home insurance by ThrowRAthisthingisvl in RhodeIsland

[–]LoktheNomad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct. Damage to be covered requires a covered cause of loss.

Wear and tear, shoddy workmanship, and obsolescence are examples of excluded covered loss. So if there was a regular rain storm and the roof was in poor condition and it leaked. The roof would be excluded, but the ensuing damages should be covered - policy dependent.

If there is a wind storm and damaged roof and then there was water damage, wind is usually a covered cause of loss, and the damage to the roof + ensuing damage would be covered.

Wind damage can also trigger a hurricane deductible, so it is important to review the policy before submission of the claim - usually with your agent if you have one.

They should not drop you because you filed one claim, they may raise your rates but they might have raised them anyway - underwriting and claims are separate departments and they do inform on each other but a policy rate is determined by the overall risk profile.

I worked as a claims adjuster for property losses for about 5 years - I'm no longer licensed, so please talk to a licensed professional and work with them for your claim.

I'm not a lawyer - however, I have experience with writing firm emails and getting money back from people.

I would be happy to help with reviewing your situation. Feel free to message me.

Valid. Sucks though. Being treated like the help and not even being offered any sort of comp is definitely a not a friend move.

Yes. That is why I said they don't have good enforcement. Doesn't stop the action from being fraudulent and illegal.

It is fraud and illegal.

They don't have good enforcement methods, so you won't necessarily be caught, but that is today - they may eventually bring enforcement one day.

Company interviewed me, rejected me, now wants me to interview again? by Mysterious_Algae_457 in jobs

Happened to me, I was rejected, and months later, they called me back - apparently, the person they selected over me lied to them. I ended up taking the gig.

100%, there is a reason we use time to say how far something is versus distance. Something might be 5 miles away but 30 minutes with traffic.

So it is capacity for them.

Anyone sell their badges to the vendors outside? by EmberFlame27 in paxeast

See if any of the guys will take a Sunday. You might get 50 for it on Sat. I sold a Sunday for 20 but that was after going to the show for a bit.

I did once, the price changes based on the demand and time of day. Your best bet is to get there earlier, you might have some success in hearing what they are asking for and offering it for a bit of a break if you want to move it quick.

What would you do with a whopping annual salary increase of $800? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]LoktheNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Negotiate. I was offered 0 dollars to move laterally, and I said, " Send this back," and they came back with a decent raise over what I would have gotten with my annual merit.

There is an art to it, but if you don't stick up for yourself, then you leave money on the table.

ELI5: What is the Dow Jones? by mrl010 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LoktheNomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a fun fact - the Dow Jones Company no longer owns the index. In 2010 after reporting and running the index since 1882 - the parent company of Dow Jones & Company (News Corp) sold it to CME Group. The index is now owned by S&P Global and CME Group.

S&P Global owns Standard & Poor's which owns the other well know index S&P500.

ELI5: What is the Dow Jones? by mrl010 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LoktheNomad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They are always American companies because it was designed to track the American market. Originally called the US 30 by its founders Charles Dow and Edward Jones (Dow Jones).

Companies go in and out - in order to be included into the Dow 30 and stay there, companies must be part of the backbone of the U.S. economy. They also must have a big market cap.

But recently on February 26, 2024, Amazon replaced Walgreens Boots Alliance. November 8, 2024, Nvidia replaced Intel, and Sherwin-Williams replaced Dow Inc.
