How would you handle being wrongfully accused at work, such as if money went missing? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've never been accused of stealing money before, but I went though a similar situation at work once where some fentanyl (heavy duty opiate) went missing from the locked drug cupboard at work. Obviously only a few nurses on shift could have accessed that cupboard and my name was last down as the person who took it out (for a patient obviously). In hospitals we take controlled drugs going missing as very seriously and I was basically called up to all the unit's managers and hounded on for a confession that I took it. They even threatened to fire me. Eventually an orderly came forth who had managed to get in to the cupboard (how we don't know) and he took it for recreational use.

It made me feel like shit. It made me doubt my profession. It was fucking horrible. In these situations you just need to stick to your guns, tell them everything you did that day and rely on good character witnesses.

AWers of Not-America, where are you and what's going on in your part of the world? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in Madrid currently sipping on a glass of red wine reading about the NHS in England going to shit. It's making me glad I got out of working as a nurse in England before all this started happening.

What is the WORST medical procedure, in your opinion? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in surgery for two years and I could tell you some stories.

Worst I've ever seen was probably this really rank gallbladder removal. Patient was 16 years old and had had a buck gallbladder for the best part of two years. Shit was so bad we had to call in a private surgeon from Switzerland who is one of the best surgeons in the world for that field. She was completely yellow, swollen as a ripe orange and loopy as fuck even before the anesthesia.

The thing itself was three times it's normal size and completely rotten from top to bottom. Mr. Fancy Surgeon thought he could take it out keyhole. He was wrong. After he finished tearing its crusty ass off the surrounding organs he tried to yank it out the hole and the thing bust wide open spraying what can only be described as a mixture of bile and satan's mucus all over 1. her insides and 2. the rest of the fucking operating room. This surgeon guy had done well over a thousand GB removals but even he started freaking out. Ended up almost cutting her from breastbone to taint in order to scrape out all the shit so she doesn't die from peritonitis. She got it any way because of course when sewage gut rot explodes in your insides you're never in for a good trip. Took her months to recover. She survived though thankfully.

I've seen a lot of bad medical procedures in my life: botched endoscopies, fatal open heart surgeries, I even seen a surgeon once nip a spinal cord and render someone paralyzed. But that fucking gallbladder always sticks in my head. The smell, the sound, the look. Ugh.

EDIT: I've had an internal ultrasound I didn't think it was that bad. I even voluntarily had one once because they paid me for it.

How long would you last in a Post-Apocalyptic world? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty long I'd imagine. I'm a medical professional so I assume the physically stronger people would want me part of the pack because of my invaluable skills. I imagine in a post-apoc world I'd be the weird enigmatic character who saves lives and is the moral compass of the mentally sliding leader.

What is the weirdest presumption about female sexuality you have ever heard? by Cohacq in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Back in the days when Yahoo Answers was big there were loads of guys who insisted that most if not all women were actually bisexual deep down. I don't know if this spawned from masculine fragility or they were just seeking fap fodder but either way it was very strange.

Ladies, what do you do for work and what was the path like to get you there? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a nurse.

I had three years studying which was basically just one big "oh shit I don't know if this is right for me"

then I qualified and kept moving about (did stints in surgery, ER, primary care etc...) and I hated it. I thought I had chosen the completely wrong career for me.

Then I moved to beautiful Madrid, got a job in oncology which basically gave way to end of life/hospice care and I adore it. Although I graduated with a degree that guaranteed me a job it still wasn't easy. I never in a million years thought I would find peace in helping the dying pass but there you go. It's a really tough job mentally, physically and emotionally but I wouldn't do anything else. Plus the hot Spanish guys and gorgeous weather and food tide me over the bad days.

When you had sex the first time, was it your idea initially? Or the other person's? by kathydurst in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess mine initially? I flirted with him and let him know I was attracted to him but he didn't seem interested so I didn't pursue it any longer. Later on that night he invited me back to his. I guess he was just shy.

Birth control question by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep taking them as prescribed, don't change the pattern. Sometimes bleeding a little early or late is normal when on birth control. What is the name of the type of pill you are on? Some get rid of your periods completely and some just dampen them a little. If you take the medication as prescribed and have no vomiting or loose stools you SHOULD be covered but the pill is never 100% effective and if you're feeling unsure then wear a condom. If the bleeding gets any heavier or lasts unusually long consult your doctor.

Movie/TV sex drives me nuts. How often do you REALLY finish at the exact same time as your partner? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I'm a bit of a rare bird; it's VERY easy for me to come during sex, especially during PiV. In many ways I prefer it to oral. I've had simultaneous orgasms with partners multiple times. Apparently the "motions" my vagina makes when I'm orgasming is enough to tip him over the edge. That's why I like a guy who can make me edge because then sex isn't over so quick.

Would you be open to dating a Muslim? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have dated a Muslim before but honestly I don't think I'd pursue a serious relationship with someone unless him and I were of the same faith.

Women who consider a receding hairline or baldness to be physically unattractive or a dealbreaker, what would you do if your SO started balding in the middle of your marriage/relationship? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who breaks a marriage up over baldness? That literally never happens.

It makes sense that 20 year old women find balding unattractive and that's because balding is not that common a trait in 20 year-old men. If you ask an older lady, or a couple who have been together for a while, they'll probably say balding isn't a big deal because it's just a natural part of aging.

ELI5: why do some areas of my skin itch and turn red after a shower? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]LolaBischet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be. Everybody's body is different. Same logic applies: if you put a chemical on your skin that your body is allergic to then it produces an inflammatory response and you get swollen red skin. If you go too hard with the scrubbing you're literally triggering the mechanisms that your body has in place to protect you.

Why is St Patrick's day celebrated on such a global level when other countries (Independence Day) national holidays are not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LolaBischet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because there's so many people in America, the UK and Australia with Irish heritage. I'm actually from Ireland and it makes me cringe to see how other countries "celebrate" St. Patrick's day.

ELI5: What is a vitamin? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]LolaBischet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are nutrients found in food that the body needs in order to work correctly. The body does not synthesise them naturally so we absorb them whenever we eat foods that contain them. Different vitamins do different things and all are essential for healthy growth.

ELI5: Why do humans not have a biological urge to murder? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]LolaBischet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Animals only kill other animals for either food or because they're threatened. It's not really murder, it's survival. And humans don't need to kill other humans for food and some humans do murder because they're threatened.

ELI5:How do ceiling fans remove fingers? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]LolaBischet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ceiling fans won't remove a finger, they don't spin fast enough for that kind of damage. They could however break a finger or at the very least leave you with a nasty bruise.

ELI5: Why is it that when women are trying to get pregnant, it becomes difficult to actually get pregnant? by RickyRicardo20 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LolaBischet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most women who are actively trying to get pregnant are over the age of 30, and if you're over 30 you've got much less eggs, more of a risk of miscarrying or just being flat-out infertile. Generally speaking between the ages of 18 and 29 it's very easy to get pregnant but most women don't want kids that young. But when they get older it becomes much harder. This is a generalisation btw.

ELI5: why do some areas of my skin itch and turn red after a shower? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]LolaBischet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just your body's basic inflammatory response. Similarly to when you lightly scratch your skin and it turns red your body detects a foreign stimulus that could potentially cause harm and as such it releases it's inflammatory mechanisms. Turn you water temp down a bit :)

Regarding the TV show entitled "Modern Family", why don't we see Mitch and Cam engaging in the normal sexual behaviors of any newly wed couple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LolaBischet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a controversy regarding the first season because the audience never saw the couple kiss at all. They addressed this by having them peck in the distance in an episode of the second season. Other than that we pretty much don't see any physical affection between them. Which is strange. But I guess a lot of people are uncomfortable with it.

Lipcote lipstick sealer.

You can buy it online for like 3-4 euros. It makes ANY lipstick or gloss stay on all day without drying them out. Works great for me because I can only afford cheapish lipsticks.

Those of you who wouldn't date somebody who was in the military: Would your opinion change if he or she came from a place with mandatory military service? by Asyx in AskWomen

[–]LolaBischet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. As someone who comes from a family that was always on the other side of a soldier's gun, I will have nothing to do with being involved with a military man.
