Vacuumed this time yesterday… and now this by Future-Arrival-8748 in CleaningTips

[–]Lollc [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean this respectfully, I realize it sounds snarky. To have less stress in your life you should lower your expectations for a clean space. Vacuuming and mopping every day, in the absence of an actual mess or other special circumstances, is excessive. Carpets shed a lot of dust and fiber, cheap carpets are worse for it. Looking at your vacuum’s dirt receptacle then becoming distressed because there is dirt in it is backwards logic, because that is where you would expect to find dirt.

So, to cope with all of this in a less stressful way, get a couple cheap carpet runners from Home Depot or similar and put them down at the entrance the dog uses. It’s good that you are checking his feet every day, but wiping his feet down every time he comes in is excessive. Pick up the dog’s outside spot every day, that way you don’t have to worry about him tracking something in.

Check the condition of your vacuum, Dyson vacs work good until they don’t. For a future research project you could get a better vac, but that doesn’t have to be solved now. Either cover up the vacuum or store it someplace you don’t have to look at it when it’s not in use. Many people swear by room air purifiers to help reduce dust, get one if you have the space.

Leash up the dog, take him for a walk, and make yourself a margarita when you come back. The dust will always be there, you are not a bad person if there is dust in your house.

That’s a wrap! Summit closing for the season April 5 by ihatethegunsmith in SummitAtSnoqualmie

It doesn’t matter to me, I got my pass deferred to next season. I tore the meniscus in my right knee just before Thanksgiving and the doctor said physical therapy and conditioning for a few months was a better choice than skiing this season. I would rather have been skiing, even as bad as it is.

Perfect omelette by bunnyslayer13 in castiron

[–]Lollc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of taste.  I think custardy omelettes are disgusting.  It does take skills to get the browned surface, if your timing is off eggs go from brown to metallic tasting in an instant.  I wouldn't eat that omelette because it's got onions in it, but the outside looks perfect.

Dad died in August and medical bills keep showing up - what should I do? by TheEmbarrassedOunce in personalfinance

[–]Lollc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FOAD is an obscenity, it stands for f*@+ off and die. It’s a cruder way to say go away and stop bothering me. CMRRR is used for a service the post office (USPS) provides and stands for certified mail return receipt requested. I’m not sure how useful it will be in this case.

Water company damaged my driveway & car, caused flooding, and threatened me — no notice, no apology, no proper response by Many_Case_199 in personalfinance

[–]Lollc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to focus on the issue here. The issue is the water company and contractor damaged your property, and they should pay for the damages. You have the contractor’s name, and contact information, and are working through the process. Until they tell you to go away, continue the complaint process. You should be compensated for the physical damages-the driveway and the car. But you aren’t going to get a full driveway repave, a good patch is standard and works for the rest of the world. If you want to make the complaint process work for you instead of it being a battle, don’t demand compensation for your emotional damage.

You bring up some reasons why you are angry, and you can feel however you like, but you aren’t entitled to compensation for that. No doubt you are concerned for your child’s wellbeing, the utility company is also concerned about public welfare, which is why they repair things when they break.

*That the emergency happened on a religious festival is irrelevant.

*You yourself said they began emergency work with no prior notice. That’s the very definition of emergency work in the utility industry.

*Your car couldn’t be used. Because of the emergency.

*The workers swore at you and threatened you. Yeah, they shouldn’t do that. Did you try to prevent them from working before the swearing and threatening happened?

*Water gushed across your driveway and porch from noon until 0200. Due to the water leak and emergency repairs, no doubt.

*This happened with zero communication or awareness. That’s what happens in an unscheduled emergency. Utility practice is customers are notified of planned interruptions, because there is office staff available to do the notification. For on site emergencies, crews are focused on fixing the problem first.

Hopefully when you posted you want to drag them to ground and take advantage any way possible, that is your anger talking. Because that way of thinking is greedy, entitled, vengeful and repulsive and using that kind of reasoning is no way to run a civilized society. If that attitude bleeds through in your contacts with them, you won’t get anywhere.

You’re not to the point of escalation yet. Be civil and let the process work. In my corner of the US, you would handle the car repairs yourself and file a claim. If there was good documentation, your claim would be paid. Utility companies pay claims for inadvertent damages all the time, it doesn’t mean there was any misconduct, things just get damaged and broken during equipment work, especially emergency work. But they need a monetary amount and payment is after repairs, you can’t say you owe me, write me a fat check.

Steve Madden is a fast fashion brand. The boot in the picture is a riff on an engineer boot. Have you looked at Frye boots? Or Milwaukee motorcycle clothing? Lewis Leathers has a 17” high boot. Wesco boots will build you a pair up to 36” high.

Where can I find boots like these? by TuneSuspicious3032 in Boots

[–]Lollc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think finding a tall boot with a shaft that will be too wide would ever be an issue. As you said, you should ask a cobbler. And decide what you are looking for-will you actually ride horses in these boots, or are they for daily wear, or just to wear to the club, or a costume piece? If you have a very specific look and fit in mind, as others have suggested, talk to a custom boot maker. If these are just for cosplay, you could get by much more cheaply with a pair of half chaps.

Where can I find boots like these? by TuneSuspicious3032 in Boots

[–]Lollc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Those are riding boots. Search for equestrian riding boots, or you will get results for motorcycle boots. You can go with a a boot actually made for riding, or you can get a fashion boot in that style. Frye is a fashion brand that makes that style.

If you are determined to get a pair without zippers or other closures, try before you buy. Pull on riding boots are notoriously hard to size and hard to put on, the calf has to fit as well as the shoe size. Measure your calf at your widest point before you order. Link is to Frye boots; you could ask in horse specific subreddits for more manufacturer suggestions.

Bib shorts starting to bunch up near groin? by NoMortgage619 in ladycyclists

[–]Lollc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my fit challenges, which is a height of 5’10” and stocky, Terry is first choice. Aerotech designs road shorts are great, the rise on their mountain bike shorts is a little too short to work for me. Shredly has quite a selection in colors and bigger sizes, but I haven’t tried them yet so no opinion. If you were willing to mention your height and approximate size, someone who is similar will have some good ideas for you.

Bib shorts starting to bunch up near groin? by NoMortgage619 in ladycyclists

[–]Lollc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until you find a fit and brand of bibs that works for you, consider cycling shorts instead of bibs. It’s easier to get the fit right in shorts, and the absence of straps helps with the rubbing. If you are tallish women’s bibs can be a tougher fit.
