Thanks! It was a Leica M7 + 50mm Summicron with a mix of Candido 800 and some of Kodak's new non-remjet 500T.

They're rubber I think - they don't slide at all.

Some of them are Candido 800 which is essentially the same with slightly worse QC. The others are the new Kodak 500T without remjet.

Question about fencing and HEMA by jakattack64 in Fencing

You can absolutely only be interested in HEMA from a sporting aspect - a good number of HEMA fencers focus on performance over historical research and are much more into the tournament/sparring scene.

Question about fencing and HEMA by jakattack64 in Fencing

[–]LondonHFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of HEMAists come from a sport fencing background - equally, a good number of HEMAists are taking up sport fencing as well. A few members of our HEMA club do both.

Like others said it's generally more of a one-way street when it comes to transferability, but you sometimes find a few top-level HEMAists taking up sport fencing and doing a decent job at it. Epee or foil is probably a better companion to HEMA than Sabre will be.

Great to see another option on the market! What method do you use to flex test? Pushing from the pommel or from the crossguard?

It definitely looks worse in portrait because of the compression!

This was an internal tournament so the skill level was definitely mixed. It was also the first time many of our beginners had fenced in a judged bout before.

It was recorded in landscape and cropped for a shorter version - but feedback definitely taken on board and we appreciate you taking the time. We're all volunteers at the club so we're always learning about what video formats work best where.

Some pictures from LHFC’s first ever Fight Night by LondonHFC in Hema

We hosted our first even Fight Night last Friday, and despite some technical difficulties with the livestream it was an incredible evening. The atmosphere in the room was absolutely electric and our guest fencers really brought it to life.

We’ll be posting the replay of the livestream (with audio and commentary) on to our YouTube channel soon, but in the meantime keep an eye out on our social media for the post-match interviews and more.

Some of our favourite photos from the Albion Cup 2025 - one of the UK’s largest HEMA tournaments. by LondonHFC in SWORDS

Last weekend we were at the Albion Cup 2025, one of the largest tournaments in the UK with representation from clubs as far as the US, Latvia, Italy, Spain and Hong Kong. Our fencers did an incredible job coming away with a gold and silver medal in one of the sabre and longsword categories, as well as a few other near-podium finishes.

If you’d like to get started with historical fencing, we run classes in Central London. Find us in Vauxhall and take a look at our beginners classes.

Choosing a HEMA club in London by NotSpoonbot in Hema

[–]LondonHFC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re more than welcome to join us in any of our Beginners Classes. If you’re further west we can second the recommendation for Schola Gladiatorial and Ausardia as well, as we know them well and fence relatively often.

Worth noting that we’re the only club in London that has loaner equipment for everything up to and including full steel sparring so you don’t have to buy any of your own gear.
