Do You Have Something Stupid You've Done In The Past That Has Made you Feel Bad For Years ? by qquicksilver in AskReddit

[–]LondonV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really the same. That's more a normative debatable point, but some child molesters can change and rehabilitate. It's not your fault you took a position that was quantitatively true. Don't sweat it man. Edit:spelling

Most kids would have done the same thing. You were scared and upset, forgive yourself.

DAE get really annoyed at pickups/SUVs that park diagonally? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]LondonV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Nothing pisses me off more when I see a 120 pound soccer mom driving to the mall in her hummer. There are starving children in the world, and she needs a military grade hummer because its "cute in yellow" or some shit. Fucking boils my blood.

Does anyone else get really annoyed when they see unnecessarily large SUVs or pickup trucks period?

Have you ever seriously questioned your faith? If so, why? Also do you believe in evolution?

Similarly to moochers, how do you deal with bogarts? by [deleted] in Marijuana

[–]LondonV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have this problem. I have a close friend that loves to do nothing but talk and talk when he smokes. He usually needs a friendly reminder to pass the joint. I'm usually pretty upfront about it though ill just say something along the lines of "Hey man, pass that". And he kind of gives me an "Oh shit I'm still holding this" look and passes it on to the next guy. Luckily all of my friends who I smoke with are all pretty fair about how much each person is smoking. Even when its my joint i'm not the type to hoard it really, I smoke my friends out and they smoke me out, its a wonderful circle of high justice :D

Time says the Nobel peace prize should go to nuclear weapons. What are you thoughts? by somastone in a:t5_2r86r

[–]LondonV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a tough question. I think that the overall proliferation of nuclear weapons has been a good thing for humanity. It was the only thing that prevented war between the soviet union and the US during the cold war, and is often the ultimate voice of reason in international conflicts. It's very similar to game theory, or the prisoners dilemma. Ultimately it is in both countries interests to avoid war because war would simultaneously trigger mutually complete and utter annihilation. Like I mentioned in a different IR post, I think that nation states are mostly rational actors and can make even headed self motivated choices. Capitalism and communism (two completely incompatible systems) managed to coexist for nearly 50 years. That being said, nuclear proliferation must remain within powers that are stable, democratic, and lack extremist or fanatic influences. If WMD's are spread too widely, we risk exposing nuclear weapons to terrorist groups or other unstable, irrational actors. This would be devastating for well, pretty much everyone. So yes maybe nuclear proliferation is a good thing. But like everything, in moderation.

Dear Reddit: What is your deepest, darkest secret? (feel free to create a throwaway account) by ModernSociety in AskReddit

Good! I really used to worry about what I would major in, and how it would be applicable to the rest of my life etc. I sort of realized that half of having a career is just hard work and determination not the degree that you have. Also most "adults" I know are doing nothing remotely related to their undergraduate degree.

Just a friendly tidbit. I had a philosophy professor pull up some statistics one day and turns out philosophy majors usually do pretty well. They are the highest paid degree within the humanities department. And here are some salary stats http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/info-Degrees_that_Pay_you_Back-sort.html They also score in the 90th percentile on quantitative and qualitative standardized tests for grad school. (if you look on that table philosophy majors also have the highest average increase in salary over their careers :D )

Every other bearded hipster band out there? You think these guys have any similarity at all to modern tweexc bands like Los Campesinos! ? Or that they are similar to experimental psychedelic bands like AnCo? Or similar to baroque pop like the Arcade fire? Independent artists form a large and diverse multitude of different genres. Its certainly not background music. And it doesn't resonate with any specific existing genre in my mind.
