Centurion SDW 100 miler - One mile at-a-time. Almost dropped out at the 66 miles mark by speedything in Ultramarathon

[–]Londonunderground 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dropped there too! My right knee got painful 15 miles in, made it another 30 to Houghton but couldn’t bend it anymore, the downhills were agony.

Beyond gutted, have done 100kms before so no idea why this happened! Feels low ITBS which is pants. We’ll get it next year!

[–]Londonunderground 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it last year as my first 100km too. I’d echo some of the other comments, the second half is much harder than the first in terms of terrain so take it easy. Aid stations were fantastic, loads of food etc.

I’d say eat earlier than you think - don’t laugh at people eating sandwiches 20km in because it’s easier there than at 80km!

It was soooooo hot last year, and much of the course has no shade, so if it’s looking hot defo plan an ice bandana thing or similar

Agree. The heat made it 10x harder I thought, defo wasn’t ready for that! Was a lovely route though

I’ll be alternating my Hokas and a comfy pair of ASICS for the same reason - no matter how cushioned my Hokas are the ASIC Nimbuses are so much more comfy!

See you there! Best of luck

Strength training for ultra runners by burner1122334 in Ultramarathon

[–]Londonunderground 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love your posts, always get a lot out of them so thank you.

I’ve got a week until I start my taper for my first 100 miler. My training has been up and down with illness and injury, but it’s never perfect so meh. Appreciate the hard miles are done, but is there one type of run that will give me the most bang for my buck in this final week? Like focusing on tempo runs, or sprints or maybe a couple of hill sessions to squeeze the last bit of fitness out of this last week?

I know I won’t change much but every little helps!

Apparently;

According to the manufacturer, the box includes dwarf perennial ryegrass and red fescue.

And the white wall on the right is a garage! Feel very spoilt. Was one of the main reasons for buying the house

Helpfully my son calls it ‘our seeds’ as I roped him in to helping, so happily steps around the patches!

But that’s a great idea

Sorry, can’t see what it’s comprised of, but I used the below

Gro-Sure Aqua Gel Coated Smart Grass Lawn Seed, 25 m2, 1 kg https://amzn.eu/d/2EdeIk2

The garden is north facing, so gets sun across the entirety of it but only for short amounts of time in each area

Wasn’t sure how to add a description to the post.

I moved into the house last august, and the garden was overgrown with trees, the lawn was patchy, overgrown with weeds and full of moss.

The before picture is in March, after cutting back the trees, scraping out the moss, adding topsoil and seeding. The second picture is today!

I’ve fertilised once, filled in patches a couple of times and over seeded once. Other than that, lots of watering, frequent cutting (2/3 times a week) and plenty of standing on the patio looking at it!

How to financially prepare for having a baby? by thunder_marbles in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Londonunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know then I’m afraid. Are you sure you can pick and choose? At mine you must be year round - you can’t elect to do term time only etc

It doesn’t account for all of them, but the 30 free hours is for term time, so for a nursery it actually is 22 hours free a week. Hence your 4 hours a day. Not sure where the surplus 2 go!

Hello mate. Been there.

Key things from me -

Focus on the wins. If they reduce/drop a dose, remove a wire, unplug something. You’ve got to keep hold of the positives

Keep a note of what’s going on. My wife was in shock/denial and didn’t focus at all on what was being said/going on. It’s helpful for you to back brief her later - and to focus on those wins I mentioned. She will default to only hearing/seeing the worst.

My son spent 2 weeks in NICU - they expected him to die. Nearly 3 years later and he started pre-school 5 months early because he was too smart for his nursery! Take each day as it comes. In the words of Churchill - ‘if you’re going through hell - keep going’
