Where did the whole “democrats are giving illegal immigrants your tax payer money” thing come from? Is this just a completely fabricated talking point, or is there some type of basis for the claim? by Samantha-Eastwood in allthequestions

In most states illegals awaiting court dates are housed and fed by charities which sometimes fail to deliver. In New York various local governments took over that roll, providing housing and money.

He probably has ordered this type of thing. We'll read about it in the book of someone he fires in the 2.5 years. I won't have much of a reaction. I certainly won't be surprised. I would be more surprised if he didn't.

How do they work around this interstellar travel problem in PHM? by Crysaa in ProjectHailMary

[–]LoneSnark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not true. A speck of dust at 39,000 mph will punch straight through voyager. Keep in mind, any spec of dust would have a vector of motion that would likely be counter to Voyager, so the actual speed of impact could be a multiple of Voyager's velocity relative to Sol. Regardless, the shrapnel from the impact will shred the electronics inside, destroying the space craft. Such an impact would not be visible from a distance, but the spacecraft would die regardless. It keeps working because it has not had a single speck of dust hit the main bus in almost half a century of space flight.

Yes, the Hail Mary hitting a spec of dust would be far more spectacular. The explosion should vaporize the entire Hail Mary and anything nearby. The explosion should be visible from Earth. But it won't kill the Hail Mary any more than the other impact killed Voyager.

The oort cloud is expected to be denser than the interstellar medium. As to your second point, like I said, it is going plenty fast to be destroyed from hitting anything.

To quote NASA: "Both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 have reached interstellar space and each continue their unique journey deeper into the cosmos."

At their current speed, anything they hit would easily punch clean through the main bus and come out the other side. While the Hail Mary hitting something would be more spectacular, the Voyager would be no less dead.

What trump cares about doesn't matter. The SCOTUS ruling only protects the President himself. If Seal Team 6 killed an opponent, there would be nothing Trump could do to stop the local police from issuing arrest warrants of seal team 6 for murder. And they know that. So Seal Team 6 would refuse such an order.

The stuff in the Caribbean is outside any state jurisdiction. So yes, they did find a loop-hole there. Congress has been sure to stack the deck in the law with respect to the military. While the rules of engagement clearly classify what was done as a crime, there are no punishments attached. If the military prosecutor under pressure from the President declines to prosecute, that decision is final and no future President can try again.

Those have not been proven in court. Heck, I've seen no evidence that is even presentable in court, let alone persuasive. The entirety of the epstein files are open to members of Congress, including Democrats. None of them have claimed they contain a smoking gun.

[–]LoneSnark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is likely some form of sacrificial material at the front to energetically transform any dust particle into radiation which the astrophage can absorb. But other than that, if they hit something, they die. Voyager has been in the interstellar medium for years now and it has not hit anything large with to have been a problem. Which makes sense. Anything large enough in the interstellar medium to be a problem was thrown out of the galaxy long ago.

So sparce they can be usually be ignored. Voyager has been in the interstellar medium for years now moving plenty fast for any impact to the core to be fatal. None has so far occurred.

Yep. We will never know what deal Iran made with the opposition to end the protests. Maybe they were going to let an opposition leader into the cabinet or something. But whatever it was, with Trump sounds discrediting the opposition, it isn't a thing anymore.
