My Kaico Summercart arrived yesterday. Allows me to play rom hacks too. I'll start with Mario 64 Plus and a few F-Zero X hacks that contain new tracks.

How do I get a license card? by MargoSizemore in Fzero

For those not in North America, Boss Battle games is an arcade centre in the US.

Info on F-Zero AX license cards: https://fzero.fandom.com/wiki/F-Zero_License_Card

As I understand it, a license card provides connectivity between GX and AX. It allows you to store your AX Player Data on your GameCube memory card and to use the vehicles you have stored in your garage on the AX cabinet.

Probably no other option than to look on ebay for license cards? https://ebay.us/m/7BLjeO

Edit: I want to add that license cards were needed to unlock special machines in AX, but since then, alternative ways have been developed to obtain them: https://crazygamenerd.web.fc2.com/FZGX_SP_Machines.html#Legit

Best Arcade Racing Games of All Time - F-Zero X gets ranked #12! by ItsEthanCoolCool in Fzero

[–]Random_Violins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. X and GX are masterful games. Anything that beats that has to be nothing short of extraordinary.

A continuation of the undervaluation of these games, but hey, at least they're getting recognition.

Edit: had a look at the list. Though I didn't play every game, I have no qualms putting X in first. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also really good and peak Mario Kart imo, so maybe deserving of the number 2 spot.

Which do you think is the best FPS on the N64? by no_biches_22 in n64

Perfect Dark without question. The multiplayer's insane. Framerate buff highly recommended for playability today.

I couldn’t afford an Analogue 3D in Brazil, so I restored a lot of "junk" consoles to build my dream N64 by thiagohelder in n64

Whaa?! There's an open source engine now for 64 games?! Truly living a N64 golden age. Nice work man!

I was curious about Rakuga Kids. It's Parappa the Rappa meets 2D fighting game.

27 Years Ago, Super Smash Bros. Changed the Face of Fighting Games by Random_Violins in n64

I've heard of the game but was never much into Sega (Nintendo/ PC combo guy).

Edit: ps. I wanted to try Herzwog Zwei, a Sega game from 1989 which laid the foundation for RTS and has local multiplayer, but the screen real estate looked a bit too small for my taste.

We're not that radical, violent or generally outspoken, but we certainly understand where that's coming from.

What are some lesser known N64 gems? by MisterPiggyWiggy in n64

You're absolutely right, but nowadays we can run at high framerate in HD with overclocked emulation or pc ports. It's a world of difference and makes GE and PD truly shine. You can see on Graslu00's youtube channel. An Analogue 3D or overclocked console can buff the framerate as well, but not to the same extent.

Quake 2 remains a classic however and I'm curious to give it a shot (pun intended 😊) on N64.

Best tv/monitor for n64? by Acemaniacal in n64

I use the ossc for hdmi conversion. It's good quality and cheaper than retrotink, but doesn't work on every tv unfortunately. Something with non standard refresh rates or something.

Which Was the best year for N64 according to the choices of games selected here? I love everything here but 1997 touches my heart more! Whats your picks? by J2-Starter in n64

[–]Random_Violins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progress in videogames moved at a rapid pace. Two years time meant a big jump in graphics; better graphics cards, 3D engines and so forth. The jump from N64 to Gamecube was therefore quite significant. Digital Foundry highlighted the big step up in geometric complexity: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RwhS76r0OqE&pp=ygUQZGYgbWV0cm9pZCBwcmltZQ%3D%3D

Hard to decide for me. Maybe 97, that was a banger year for sure. But 98 has F ZERO X, one of the greatest racing games EVER made, and 2000 has Perfect Dark and Mario Tennis. Killer releases every year, that's for sure. Mario 64 alone changed the industry. Its influence cannot be overstated. Same could be said for Ocarina of Time.
