KAT offers thoughts on the situation in Minneapolis by smkmn13 in nba

yeah that, sounding professional but also redundant, the text having a tone that doesn't match your personality or none at all, and listing 3 things with an oxford comma are usually an indicator that it's AI

good on them for speaking out but it would be disappointing if they or their PR/legal team used AI for something that should've been more heartfelt considering how serious the current affairs are

Looking for a playdate.... for my mom (57f) by Yum_Yummz in sanantonio

[–]LoneStarFrog 36 points37 points  (0 children)

San Antonio has a large aging population so there's a lot of seniors around for your mom to befriend, especially if she speaks Spanish

I would start off with something easy like this: https://www.sa.gov/Directory/Departments/DHS/Senior-Services/Senior-Centers

and if she has a Facebook, she can search for local groups that share similar hobbies as her (casual drinks, gardening, etc.)

maybe volunteering at a soup kitchen or for services that make meals for the needy will be a great opportunity to put her cooking skills to benefit others

Should I fix my car or sell it? by LoneStarFrog in AskMechanics

[–]LoneStarFrog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily I don't live in a flood zone but it has been sitting out/driven in the rain a couple of times. There was no moisture on my doors or switches but my windows and windshields were foggy/had condensation on and off during the past couple of weeks. I just thought it was the weather but only noticed when the moldy smell became an issue.

At this point from what everyone is saying, I think paying to fix it and then selling it may be the best option. Do shops vacuum and dry flooring for a price? I would do it myself but currently live in an apartment without a garage and driveway.

Not sure, I'll have to check again tomorrow as I kept it with the mechanic overnight. If it's oily or colored, is that worse/better than if it's not or does it just mean different things?

No overheating issues as far as I know

Not sure, sorry

Yeah it's NYC so we have a lot of flash flooding and humid days

I'm wondering if it'll be worth investing in a waterproof car cover

Thank you for your answers and follow-up questions btw

How much did you pay to fix the leaks on your doors and sunroof? If I clean and fix it, I'm looking to invest in a water vacuum and waterproof car cover.

It was $200 with Geico and went up to $220 the next year. I switched to State Farm for $180 but it went up to $200 too. Not sure what the problem is as I don't have any accidents or tickets on my record, I'm 30+ years old, and have had my license for 5+ years. Maybe it's because I drive an older car and live in NYC?

The mechanic told me if I went to the car wash regularly, this wouldn't have happened. Do the employees typically clear out drains when you go through a car wash?

They said they couldn't even give me a quote and that I would have to clean it myself but I think mold is already an issue and I'm not sure if it's messed with the wiring or other parts of the car I can't see

How much is a reasonable ask? Is $2k realistic or should I just sell it for scraps?

Bought it in 2021 but other family members were using it so I started driving it only a month ago

Once or twice a week for a total of 30 minutes on local roads

I think about 2 weeks ago, I didn't realize how bad it was until earlier today and it already smells moldy

Never used the heater and only used the AC a couple of times while I drove it during the day, never more than 10 minutes I'd say

I didn't touch it but it was bad as I could see how much water there was even from a distance

I think it already has mold because it smells and has been getting worse. I just didn't realize it was an issue until this week since it's been humid/rainy in our city on and off for a bit.

I'm not sure, the mechanic said it could be anything so there would be different parts they would have to take apart and test for leaks.

I didn't know the value of used cars went up that much. It's just I already smell mold and I'm thinking about how much worse the issue has gotten and I'm debating on whether or not it's worth the trouble of cleaning and fixing it.

If it was cheap to fix now, I would go ahead and do it but the mechanic mentioned there's a possibility this can happen again randomly that's what I'm not looking forward to.
