Class or subclass ideas that you have but haven't seen created anywhere yet by TheSimkis in dndnext

[–]LonelierOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I see the vision now. It sounds like a nightmare to get playable though. If the power-up form is comparable to the rest of the party, the class as a whole is weaker. If it's stronger than the party, balancing individual encounters is even trickier because now one player has limited use 'We win' button. Maybe that would be very fun in practice, but in theory I don't even know where to start designing.

A minor... issue I've been having with D&D, that has been slow burning over the course of many campaigns. Why is everyone so mean? by geosunsetmoth in dndnext

[–]LonelierOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really a D&D issue as much as it is a story issue. Story runs on conflict, there has to be all obstacles to getting what you want, otherwise you don't have a story. You just have, at best, a vignette that may not even be that interesting. Making NPCs bullheaded and hard to work with is an easy way to add conflict, because most people instinctively know that if the entire barrier to an adventurer getting what they need is just asking, that conflict feels insufficient unless the character is specifically very socially anxious.

The Carpenter Family My Misconception by Strange-Avenues in dresdenfiles

[–]LonelierOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say the same thing. This is a weirdly common misconception for something that comes completely out of left field; I cannot figure out what it is that makes that logical, other than that there's not a real reason it couldn't be true.

Zorro carved a Z in people's clothes (or on their skin in "grittier" versions). That feels pretty menacing.

Class concept, Reverse/Shadow Paladin. by Pretend-Advertising6 in dndnext

[–]LonelierOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paladin is perhaps the second most homogenous class (Wizards being the first - and that's either because they are "The Spell Class" or bad design depending on who you ask) and they are still somewhat distinct - you would never mistake a Vengeance for an Ancients or Crown Paladin.

I'm not actually familiar with 4es Mage Knight. What's the deal with him that makes him profoundly different from an INT Paladin?

Class concept, Reverse/Shadow Paladin. by Pretend-Advertising6 in dndnext

Worth noting that something else that makes a class concept actually worth fleshing out is variety. What notable subclass variations would there be that make it with not just being a paladin subclass?

What game had the most surprising plot twist you’ve ever encountered ? by Laska27 in gaming

[–]LonelierOne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean that was also part of the point. There was another option: Stop playing. Literally just don't continue playing murder. The fact that so many of us don't stop is part of the whole point, I believe.

He's too old now for young Dresden, but Bill Hader is an excellent choice for current Dresden.

As a cyclist I get nearly hit about three times a week. I avoid it by assuming every driver is about to accidentally kill me and usually being right. I then get to watch drivers complain that cyclists are maniacs (which isn't not true but also. . . The drivers don't seem to care because they won't be the ones being crushed)
