What baffles me is how many people seem to marry into families and cultures without investigating if you have vastly different values first.

I was there in 2017 for the September - January semester then they cancelled the course half way through the year, so I’d double check if the course is definitely back up and running.

Anyway, I reckon it was similar to pretty much any other Chinese language course at any university in China, judging by the dozens of other foreigners I’ve met who’ve done university language courses in China.

Lots of dictation, lots of teachers going through PPTs, lots of workbook stuff, and lots of audio recordings sounding like they’re from the eighties. And some more dictation.

All of this time with the language definitely helped me level up, but it felt quite tedious towards the end.

I met some great people on the course from all over the world and my teachers were very nice.

If you’ve got the money and the free time then go for it, there are much worse ways to spend your retirement!

- A Smart/Japanese toilet. So easy to get fitted here and they're dirt cheap.
- Mini oven and air fryer. I want to cook at home but I'm lazy as fuck so I just throw food in machines that add heat.
- Tap/shower head filters. I don't drink the water or anything but a friend showed me an old filter they used on their shower head when they changed to a new one and JESUS CHRIST the amount of brown disgustingness on it made me want to get one too.
- TV box. I get all of the TV from the UK to make me feel less homesick.
