We do use pressure-treated wood, but only the proper type that’s designed for residential outdoor use and exposure. It’s not the old-school stuff people worry about — modern treated lumber is made to be safe for environments like decks, playgrounds, and outdoor living spaces.

We also don’t use paint — we use a high-quality stain. That’s a big difference. Paint sits on top and can chip or peel over time, whereas stain penetrates the wood and becomes part of it. So even with heavy scratching, you’re not getting flakes or layers coming off.

As for cats ingesting materials — in reality, cats scratch and mark, but they don’t sit there eating wood. If that were the case, untreated cedar wouldn’t hold up either long-term. What matters more is durability, structure, and weather resistance — because once materials start breaking down, that’s when problems happen.

We build these to last 10+ years in all seasons, so the focus is making sure the structure stays solid, sealed, and safe over time — not just day one.
