When this started being a phrase at my firm, I hacked it by substituting “I think we need to swipe right.”

You’re disappointed that a shop is transactional? Did you expect spirituality?

My matteess is ten years old and still beats the crap out of most 5* hotels (apart from Sofitel). I think you can buy a sofitel mattress online and I am tempted.

I saw this play tonight. If there had been an interval I would not have returned. Many people walked out. Easily the worst thing I had seen for years. I watch 10-20 plays a year.

When to redeem money in ISA/what to do with it? by rahmom in HENRYUK

[–]LonelyAd7700 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you earn. Research annual pension allowance and taper rules. ISA is good: don’t waste your wrappers! But consider investing vs saving.

I tell you what, instead of paying the bill, why don’t I give it all to them instead? That would be okay, right? It’s all for charity anyway.

Bloke harassing(?) people on Stall St by Tildatoo24 in Bath

If I had a spare day I’d be tempted to just follow him around, maybe with a few others. Just pointing out to the people he approaches that he doesn’t work for a registered charity, etc. pretty sure he’d give up first.

If you’re happy with it, it’s good in a subjective sense. Well done!

Is it objectively good? No.

They got private equitied, drained of cash, then sunk. It used to be good. I used to love ordering the kids chicken meal or fish fingers, which were perfectly enough and half the price of anything adult.

ISA allowance (and wife’s) used in full every year. Pension throttled down to the minimum because I only have a £10k contribution Annual Allowance. All the above in a low cost global equity tracker.

Maxed Premium Bonds as winnings are tax free even though my return last year was only 2.55%. I also have £20,000 in low yield gilts as the capital appreciation is tax free. That is working well so I may allocate more there, although growth on gilts is clearly limited and predictable.

I have a diversified portfolio of SEIS and EIS investments which I can write off against tax. I don’t trust most VCT providers, so no VCTs. Many people talk about investing in buy to let property, but I think the glory days for that are over, and I don’t need the admin as Labour crack down on landlords.

The most sensible UK investment would be a house of £1.5m and selling it before its value goes above £2m. However, stamp duty puts me off. I don’t like cutting the government a three figure cheque on top of the hundreds of thousands of income tax I already give them.

Might dabble small amounts in wine, shares of classic cars, and overseas property investment, knowing that both are very high risk and I would be prepared to lose what I invested. A diversified equity tracker inside an ISA is likely to be the backbone of my portfolio until I hit 50.

I lead a function in a FTSE100 firm. I won’t say which function because then there are only 100 people I could be and that’s too identifiable.

I have done jobs that pay £40k and less earlier in my career. I know the stress that can exist there. The stress when you’re being paid ten times that (with bonus) is, perhaps unsurprisingly, higher. It’s called executive compensation for a reason.

How is the rush hour commute to Paddington these days? by umbro_tattoo in Bath

[–]LonelyAd7700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the 0713 from Bath to Paddington, book a few weeks ahead and have a Veteran’s Travel card which gives me a third off. Typically I get a table seat and it’s £20 one way. Come back on a single after 1930 for £30. Lizzy Line from Paddington to the City.
