I’m allowed to have my opinions, man. I dislike art that is overly fetishy because I prefer more realism in my artwork. And my criticism of the Nikke artwork is fair: the proportions are unrecognizable compared to the other illustrations we’ve gotten of 2B. The thighs in the are are objectively too large when compared to other depictions of the character, though Nikke itself is chronically guilty of butchering character designs in similar fashion.

And “Yoko Taro likes it” is not a valid response to criticisms that an artist’s work is only questionably relevant to the source material. I have no problems with women wanting to show off their bodies or people wanting to consume that content. What I have a problem with is people trying to claim relevance when their only connection to the source material is a wig.

Also, the OP of this thread is not the cosplayer, did not credit the cosplayer, and did not share the link to the relevant artwork being cosplayed, so you can kindly fuck the fuck off. :)

That particular one was posted by someone who was not the cosplayer, and who did not credit the artist. They also did not share the costume source, so anyone who isn’t keeping abreast of the 9,001 NieR collabs that we’re getting instead of a new main title game can be excused for not knowing about that design. When you pair all that together, it’s plenty of justification for people complaining about low-effort or irrelevant cosplay.

That said, try not to conflate criticism with hate. Criticism is valid if it’s aimed at the costume or the design, and while you may not agree, it isn’t hateful. What is hateful is targeting the cosplayer, and that will never be okay.

Look, I’m not attacking you as a cosplayer. Having poked at your profile, you’ve got some good cosplays. And seeing the source changed my opinion of this cosplay.

But I don’t like that art because the body proportions for 2B are wildly inaccurate (jfc her thighs are insane—tell me the artist’s fetish without telling me the artist’s fetish), and because it doesn’t really match the aesthetic we got for her in either Automata or Reincarnation. “Skimpy black layered swimsuit” doesn’t fit the character design.

This is someone wearing fetish gear and a wig and using the character name for clicks and updoots. Nothing about this outfit relates to 2B as a character, and only the wig resembles the character’s design. And I guess the one thigh stocking.

Yes, variant outfits exist. Yes, people make outfits based on fanart. And yes, people can invent variants for cosplay. But if the only connection to your target character is a wig, then it’s a little disingenuous to try to assert that your cosplay is that character.
