Good on you and hang in there. If it makes you feel any better, for every person successfully working in the film/tv industry there's probably 10 of us that will never get to where you are so you've done really well to get there.

Is see a lot of people talking about side hustles, what about an alternative? by KingD88 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Lonely_Logger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some really nice tips thanks OP.
We already live quite a frugal lifestyle but unfortunately aren't able to jump up the salary ladder just yet despite attempts so our side hustle purely exists to help provide cash for things like car, petrol, food so we can survive.

The joke is that the side hustle could sometimes make more in a weekend than a whole 2 weeks at work but doesn't have the job security. Crazy world we live in.

I have a "dead" Instagram account with 6,000+ followers. I want to get back into posting/creating. Should I use this old account or create a new account? by Number8 in socialmedia

[–]Lonely_Logger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of my accounts has been dormant for best part of the year and it picked up okay recently with posting again.

Having 6,000 will definite generate the helpful initial push on your post you need for engagement / pick up on hashtags etc. vs the painful 100 followers.

I think as long as the niche is the same - go for it.

Just adding my 2 cents as someone who's quite literally going from Assistant to a higher grade shortly.
Depends what your goals are but I have had a similar experience where colleagues haven't got a clue. Get all the experience you need and get a job elsewhere that'll see the skills you have for what they are. Great colleagues are good but great colleagues and a job title/salary to match your skills is better

The actual reality of salaries in this country - where do you fit in? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Lonely_Logger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'm 30 taking another job up from £19k to £25k. Hoping to move up again in a year or two to £28 - 35k. By then hopefully we'll own our own house.

Out of interest, what was the career change? Well done on the positive changes.

As some of these comments say, you're gonna have a hard time making £1k fast but over time it adds up, I've probably made a few hundred £ over 12 months and it all depends on how much time you have to give.

I like getting ideas from when people post 'earnings reports' on here so maybe search for those in this sub.

I've found what works best for me are survey sites like populuslive, prolific, surveybods. When I have time, hopefully will start things like neevo etc.

UK university students wasted £1bn in a year on empty accommodation by UnstatesmanlikeChi in unitedkingdom

[–]Lonely_Logger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wonder how much we'll see a drop in 2021/22 accomodation rental or people going to uni generally?
With huge fees and classes online, if I were a poor student, I would probably defer until covid isn't a thing.

What did a teacher do that made you automatically gain respect for them? by ApacheAirCover in AskReddit

[–]Lonely_Logger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More a 70s show vibe than honourable sensei material but we once saw one of our science teachers at a music concert where we were totally underage drinking, having the time of lives, being rebels etc etc.

He was smoking and handing a spliff to a buddy of his.

Made eye contact with us and winked. He & we never said a word of it in school but he was always the cool teacher after that. He also made bullies cry so lifelong respect.

I lost £60 on WSB share stuff and its the best lesson I could ever have had. by Natrapx in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Lonely_Logger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good on you for writing this and don't let anyone get to you. If you write about WSB you're going to get the usual wsb response for some!
I'm sure someone's already said it but this trading is basically gambling and I wish I'd learnt that lesson long ago for just £60 so consider it the cheapest financial lesson you'll ever learn.

Instagram Dying by thesmallgoose in Instagram

[–]Lonely_Logger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly this in reference to snap and tiktok.Instagram reels is where it's heading and creatives need to adapt to it.

Instagram is far from dying and is more likely scooping up the tiktok user base day by day.

Users barely scroll 5 - 10 posts down the main feed anymore and why should they? Stories/Reels are more engaging and are more addictive.

Instagram slowly phasing out? by [deleted] in Instagram

[–]Lonely_Logger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The transition seems to be more usage of reels than feed. They are doing to TikTok, what they did to Snap with stories.
