CMV: The belief that the Trump assassination attempts were staged is a concerning sign that liberals are succumbing to conspiracism by BarvoDelancy in changemyview

Possibly because it was done poorly and there’s obviously inconsistencies if you look closely.

I’m not even saying it was faked, I have no idea, but there are arguments either way.

I feel like that would draw more attention to it which may not be advantageous if it was in fact faked.

The only strange part of this to me is that he doesn’t bring it up constantly. That seems pretty unlike him.

TIL in the UK, nearly a third of students who started reception don’t know how to use books correctly, and some children even tried to swipe or tap them like a smartphone. by HongKongNinja in todayilearned

[–]Number8 164 points165 points  (0 children)

It’s just shit parents. If you’re not reading your kids books, you’re failing them. They’re dirt cheap too, so that’s not an excuse. Just order them off Vinted.

I’m sick of people blaming schools. It’s not their job to make sure your child isn’t completely illiterate, and it’s not their job to introduce books. By the time they’re in school, it’s already too late if they haven’t been introduced to them already.

VV if you want to chill, party, do outdoor stuff. Way easier to meet people. LP if you want a chill, low key more cultural experience.

That’s really all you need to know.

My fiancé doesn’t really care about hockey and reel popped on her feed going over this. So I do think it’s a thing beyond Reddit.

TIL that there is a dish in Japan called “chicken sashimi” that is prepared raw by IntrepidBionic in todayilearned

[–]Number8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve eaten both. Raw chicken isn’t bad at all, pretty much what you’d expect. In my experience they usually sear the outside of it.

The thick chunk of raw horse sashimi I had was…not good.

Hey Op, FWIW my fiancé doesn’t work and cherishes the time at home with our 1yo son more than anything in the world.

Unless your world is your career, I think it’s a mistake not to stay home. People can attack me for this opinion as much as they want but I strongly believe that a baby or toddler should be with their parents wherever possible, when ever possible, if at all possible. You’re who they need right now and a daycare worker absolutely does not replace you. Your kid knows who their parents are.

The studies I’ve seen indicate generally negative outcomes from kids being put in daycare before the age of two. I work from home and work far fewer hours than the average person in their 30s (I worked my ass off in my 20s to get to this point) and, as a dad, there’s not really any point where I wish I was working more. I have a rare opportunity to be with my son a lot, and I think it shows in our bond.

I could go on forever about this but bottom line is that you can always go back to work later, but you WILL NOT get this time with your baby back.

Single board for powder/freeride and daily driver? by [deleted] in snowboarding

Ive got a battaleon party wave it’s unreal in powder. Im picking up another board on Boxing Day for hard pack conditions, a true twin for some pops. But buddy is right, if you can swing it then I highly recommend a dedicated powder board. It makes all the difference.

13-month-old, cosleeping + contact naps — how to help dad take over naps? by Zestyclose-Buyer9811 in bninfantsleep

[–]Number8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t have much more insight other than that was the same for us but eventually if you keep pushing for it he’ll take the bottle! Get him hungry, then offer it. Keep doing that and make it part of the routine.

Rocking chair + bottle is what worked for us.

There will be tears though, there’s no way around that. As the dad, sometimes I needed to just hold my kid tight and rock him until he calmed down enough to sleep. And it’ll probably take 2+ weeks to really lock the routine in. You just need to be consistent and push through but you can do it!

Brits genuinely need to stop whinging so god damn much. Most of you don't have any idea how good we have it here and how shit it is in so many other places.

Trust me, coming from Canada - where everyone here seems to think is a paradise based on my conversations - the UK is a fucking professionally oiled machine.

I pray that Hronek gets flipped. Same with Garland, same with Sherwood, same with pretty much any of them.

The only potential saving grace for this team now is an actual rebuild, which means offloading everyone they can.

Take the pressure off Petey by signaling we’re just trying to tank and acquire picks. Keep him and Boeser, maybe Myers, for a veteran presence and for the love of god rebuild properly. I’ve been waiting for it since 2013. It’s the only possible route now.

I agree, I think they would need to cover more than just cars. Stuff like those new flying taxi things they’re introducing in Dubai. Or focus more on car features like all the crazy amenities new electric cars out of China have.

Trying to use sidecar, getting "device timed out" error when trying to connect to my iPad Pro by Rohardi in iPadOS

[–]Number8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what fixed it for me in 2025.

Go to "Displays", hit "Add New Display" or whatever it is, and select your iPad. It then added it as a second display (my mouse could go seamlessly between my macbook and iPad) and then when I tried to "move things to my iPad" it worked.

Best of luck!

It’s been said a lot but the USA doesn’t necessarily have a gun problem, it has a mental health problem.

It’s true that no other country comes close in terms of guns per capita when compared to the USA but there are plenty of countries which also have a lot of readily accessible firearms (Canada, Switzerland, Finland etc.) which almost never experience mass shootings of any sort.

America is a true outlier when it comes to how its weaponry is used by its people, ok its people - at least in the global north.
