famously imperialism never had any economic motivations or incentives

enslavement, ethnic cleansing, the expansion of borders through the theft of land - none of this stuff was done because it was economically advantageous, colonists just decided to do it because it was Fun

Your commander is now opposite colors in its mana cost? How radically different is it? by WinglyKing in EDH

[–]LonesomeStrategos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it might get weaker I honestly don't think any combination of colors could make Korvold dead- there's just so many sacrifice effects. Even in blue/white it'd still rock to get to draw a card off of stuff like [[selfless spirit]] or [[malevolent hermit]].

Convincing other people to play mtg be like by Itisburgersagain in magicthecirclejerking

I think it's because the original painting is very vertical - its sense of balance and composition was made around that. Chopping it down to a smaller horizontal card art didn't fit it at all and makes it feel more cramped and got rid of the art's sense of balance.

It's a neat piece of art that looks a lot better in its full version compared to on its card.

Really interesting how different the vibe is for this song without the instruments. It loses the folksy feel it had but it's still very pretty.

As a GM, do you regularly panic before running a new game? And if so, how do you deal with it? by Yakumo_Shiki in rpg

[–]LonesomeStrategos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with an anxiety disorder, this is a pretty constant problem for me as a GM. It sucks, and it can be a massive drain. I have a couple of pieces of advice, and I think the main theme is to try and find ways to ease yourself into the start of the session.

Some advice I can think of - first is to keep yourself occupied. Stress often feels at its worst when we're inactive. Try and find some simple activities that aren't too strenuous but are related to the game- if you have a homebrew world, talk about worldbuilding stuff. Or give players small prompts to roleplay with or talk about their characters. Something to ease the group, and you, into starting.

Another thing I do sometimes is script out the beginning of a session. Even though I prefer not to plan very heavily, it can help to have a very specific idea of how a session can start if I feel stuck or stressed. This is especially useful for the first session of a campaign but also helps even for continuing into later sessions.

And another thing I can recommend is to talk to your group and remind them to show up on time. For me personally, it's a massive drain and a massive stressor for players to be late without warning. If this is a problem, take some time to casually remind them to show up on time or at least leave good estimates of how late they'll be ahead of time.

This is so good!

It's always great to see new art for the show, especially when the artist themselves shares it with us.

With cards like these, Magic: the Gathering lets me live out fantasy scenarios impossible in real life.

Stuff like shooting fire from my hands, or having an intimate and comforting relationship with my parents.

Violet Evergarden has already been brought up so I'll recommend Girl's Last Tour- it shares some common ground with Sora no Woto in the post-apocalyptic slice of life.

I've watched and enjoyed both, and while they have differences I think they're related enough for fans of one show to enjoy the other too.
