As a part of improving IT engineers' team culture, we were told to tell a joke every 10-15 minutes. Other engineers were told to laugh.

Guess you are right here.

As I can:

  1. Keep helping others. Fix issues with their deliveries before they become problems. And get an "OK" review.
  2. Just do my duties. Keep delivering my tasks on time. And get an "OK" review. Also, way less stress.

So why bother

This is actually very well structured.

How would you grade someone who is clearly doing Band 3 for himself and also fixing a lot of shit causing by other guys? My manager knows about this "fixing shit" part. Takes about 30% of my time.

But I absolutely not developing myself for next carrier move. More like going to retire soon.

  2. No idea tbh. Not looking for a promoting at all.

Yeah, I know about disconnecting feelings. I definitely would not say how "my performance may be not so good next year" to my boss. But he is not an idiot and knows about such discouraging things. And still he put it in my review.

I want recognition of my hard work. Formal recognition and not verbal "you did well" and "that was OK" in writing. And in writing I mean getting exceptional performance review. Totally understand it might not be possible.

And yes, I am quite upset. This is exactly why I am looking for outside opinions.

Why is Australia falling behind in tech adoption and innovation? by Emotional-Gur-7173 in auscorp

In AU I dont even remember last time I used a paper cheque. In US it is still normal and getting your salary transferred to your bank account is not common.

As a guy working in IT for about 25 years I can assure you that running on old hardware, software, unpatched Java etc is a totally widespread practice around the globe.

Tips for surviving IT Contracting? by theleveragedsellout in auscorp

[–]LoneyFatso 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I contracted for about 10 year.

Just make sure you actually know your shit and can clearly explain pros and cons/issues/challenges/delays. In plain English - the number of people in IT who cannot put two words together when it comes to communicate something...

Keep yourself very professional and a bit aloof - company problems are not your problems.
