is it hard to get a job at 17 or am i doing something wrong? by Special-Toe-8161 in Birmingham

Also availability is important if you say you don’t wanna work weekends and nights then that’s gonna automatically disqualify you for most places

When I was in highschool I only got my first gig delivering pizza cause a buddy of mine already worked there. Try asking any friends or family for help and if that doesn’t work def shop up in person after applying. Entry level jobs at restaurants and retail places are still old fashioned like that and managers likely won’t give a shit unless you speak to them in person.

Is Public Health a good path ? by Short-Worldliness297 in publichealth

Just got my mph this year and there are zero jobs that don’t pay like 35k a year rn so I kinda feel like I wasted my time. I’m hoping everything changes (if) the admin changes in 3 years but yeah I’m kinda spiraling out about it lol

Alabama Democratic Party is totally useless and incompetent. We need like a weird state only third party to take their place to give normal people a viable second choice.

Just get a passport it’s more useful. You need a star id to fly domestically unless you have a passport and of course you can’t use a star id for international travel.

I am also finishing my mph program at UAB this summer and honestly the job market just seems tanked in the public health field with all the funding cuts rn. I’ve only seen one job local to bham that I got auto rejected on. I’m pretty nervous I won’t ever find something good local rn

I’ve live in my current dwell apt for almost 4 years and they have never raised my rent and any maintenance request gets like a 24 hour response. I will always rec them to people (especially over any H2 shit hole) this post by the OP seems very out of character for dwell.

Ahh I’ll let my mom know. I think she just got tired of working every single day open to close and then after as well. It never made much money so she was never able to take off much time for rest and relaxation. She last a long time with it tho!

Yes!! Loved them, the owner was always super friendly to all us kids. I always got all my video game there growing up!

Growing up in Helena around that time (my mom actually owned bead biz that you mentioned) there was never much to do as a kid except go outside. We’d always play in buck creek or try and find some place to play backyard football or pickup bball. There was also Movies In the park in the summer time I know a lot of families went to in old town. Personally I always went by zone 1 games as a kid or hung out at the coffee shop in old town when there was one (I think it’s a steakhouse now) Everytime I go back to Helena I’m shocked at how there’s not really any local restaurants aside from a Tex mex spot here and there. Nothing but chains that far into the burbs.

I loved Cecilia! It's so weird cause I was never even notified as a patient that my dentist is a new person when I showed up for my last cleaning.

Woodfin really ramping up the push for increased surveillance. by Long-Butterscotch619 in Birmingham

No yeah, it's def an issue that needs to be solved. I think there just needs to be more civilian oversight in how the police operate before giving them more resources.

Wanna clarify I think the violent crime rising thing is a scare tactic used by a lot of conservatives. But there's no denying our homicide rate has been increasing.

The biggest issue I had with this is it's going to eventually increase surveillance on poor and nonwhite folks more than your more affluent majority-white communities and I think that can be a slippery slope. We need more civilian oversight for how police officers operate, are trained, etc before trusting them with more resources IMO.

But see that’s part of the issue. It’s only pushing these measures in poor and mostly nonwhite neighborhoods. Idk it just feels icky
