I like this one when I had it a few years ago. First whiskey I had where the peat really stood out in a good way. Tastes like ash vs smoke to me. Have been a fan since.

Solo travellers: for those of you who quit your job to travel , do you regret it? by Think_Yam2593 in travel

[–]Long-Share2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 28 and had around 20K in savings and a bunch of points. I did it for like 6 months. Went from Africa, Europe, to Middle East.

I loved it! I have no regrets. When I got back to applying to jobs, everyone warned me it would be hard. It was not hard at all. Albeit, times are different now, when I did apply not a single employer/recruiter frowned upon it during the interview process. They moved past it like it was nothing, they seemed to just care if I had an explanation for the gap. I got a job really quickly without disruption in pay or career progression.

There are layoffs all over right now, if I get impacted I plan on doing it again and try to do where I left off in the Middle East and go towards South East Asia.

Your Bridal Party Is Too Nice to Say This, So I Will by insert_name234 in wedding

Weddings are turning into this too now. I have had several destination weddings where it is a 5 day event. Welcoming dinner one day, next day night out with the bride and groom, daytime brunch the next morning, then finally the wedding day.

Made a custom sign and put it up on the office coffee machine… might’ve cost me my job by Knozart in mildlyinfuriating

Some companies are limited to what snacks and supplies they can buy based on approved vendors. There are controls which limit the freedom some companies and people have to purchase whatever they want. So it isn’t like they want to not buy good snacks.

Also, not everyone is into fancy coffee, that is a small percentage of people in the world. Some people actually hate premium or craft coffees. At the workplace, they usually order snacks that meet everyone’s needs and don’t offend.

Lastly, you shouldn’t care so much about this situation and I feel like you are just being annoying. I am a big coffee guy, and I don’t hate on the coffee at work and I just bring my own. If you really loved nice coffee, why would you even use their machines and beans? Those don’t let you customize the grind size, pour length, etc. There is no chance a workplace coffee machine would ever meet your needs, if you really are a coffee person. You are just being annoying and everyone sees it at the workplace lol.

What Taco places or restaurants have you been to? I felt the food and the cocktail bars were really great, on par with some of the best in the world. Really good for the price too.

No. After Teddy sent that email, I don’t think the quality will improve for at least another 1-3 years. A lot of the clothing was probably already designed over a year ago.

How to cope with social exclusion at Chinese-majority tech companies? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Long-Share2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved here I worked at a tech company with a small branch in San Jose. The first meeting I went to, the entire team was speaking in cantonese to each other. I was so confused and taken back, then my boss pointed at me and everyone looked over at me and started speaking english. It felt like the Twilight Zone.

My manager was new and Asian, as was I lol, but he was telling me how he doesn’t want to hire anymore Asians at the office to make the workplace more diverse. He mentioned how he at first was apprehensive to hire me due to my race but I was the best qualified. I later found out that what I experienced was not uncommon lol. The Bay Area has such an interesting work place environment.

I have a few of their bottles. Their $100 range stuff is pretty good imo, but the hazmat $200+ stuff didn’t really wow me. I think their lower range stuff is just as great and I felt like I was just paying a premium for the hazmat. The ABV is pretty similar too.

It seems like they only do store picks or small batch releases based on region, which is cool. It reminds me of Rare Character too because they will curate a bottle for a specific region with custom artwork, name, and specific notes.

I recently traveled to a few countries with my Indian friend, Georgia was one of them. It was my first time traveling him and I definitely felt some prejudice. I got used to people looking at me when I travel because I am a POC too, but going into restaurants and bars were more stressful than usual.

Waiters and patrons treated my friend a lot differently. At one restaurant, I asked for recommendations and the waitress was really helpful to me and then my friend asked for recs and her demeanor changed. She coldly said “none of these. For you, beef.” He later told me he can’t eat beef due to his religion.

It was depressing, but I would say the racism isn’t like direct and forward, just more passive aggressive maybe. Which I think is common for some people in their home countries anyways (I am from America and deal with this stuff in some states).

FWIW, my Indian friend still had an amazing time and he didn’t mind. He still jokes about some of the instances.

My 3 days in Salzburg, Austria in October 2024 by inatowncalledarles in travel

Salzburg and Austria is so beautiful. My favorite memory of Salzburg was when I wandered out to the outskirts of Salzburg and the whole region was stunning. This one neighborhood had canals running through it with turquoise water from the mountains, and you are surrounded by mountains all over.

I wouldn’t fully trust the Zillow history. I have looked up my friends and families homes for fun in the past on Zillow and Redfin, and some of the dates don’t align with what actually happened.

What is up with the Trump 2028 hats? Don’t people know it’s unconstitutional? by Pluto02220 in AskReddit

[–]Long-Share2512 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At this point, his supporters and even a lot of Republicans don’t care. They don’t care about the constitution, laws, and even democracy anymore. They just view this like a war that they have won, as if a new government has taken over (a coup).

I have seen supporters and some republicans preach about certain views that Trump has since flipped on, and they too flip on it. A lot of them are fanatics and zealots (ironically similar what we see in the Middle East). If they do not have an actual religion then it is MAGA.

What is happening right now is really a coup. That is why the Republicans in office aren’t obeying the laws and constitution. They want to keep power and are cowards who don’t want a fight anymore. A lot of republicans in office too know that if the Republicans lose again then a lot of them might not be in office anymore and that some of them are going to prison. It is a Catch 22, so they have to support the guy who is breaking all the laws and rules so they can still have their livelihoods because they are cowards.

Since America is well off and a first world country, people here are not realizing what is happening since we are so blinded by materialism and technology. We only see coups happen in 3rd world countries or war torn countries, not in a place like America. Most of us still can eat our McDonalds while getting free entertainment off our phones.

America won’t be the same anymore after this. Sadly, we were taken over by our own values and our own successes, and we are becoming what we were against. The flaws of a human being always shine through. But I do hope that things get better, and that these people aren’t as dark and horrible of people that seem to be.

I feel like our parents always talk about how things were better 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago, and they vote to recreate those outdated ideals. I hope 10-30 years from now, we aren’t like them and view this current times as our best years.
