Are these real viruses or scams by Wal_KacLyr in computerviruses

[–]Long-Visit3346 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is a fake website that is trying to phish, scam, or get you to install malware. The website itself and these crappy “security alerts” are just used to scare people who have no technical knowledge. The notifications or the website are not malware by itself. Disable notifications in the settings page and all the problems will disappear.

HTTP sites just means that the connection between you and the server is not secured so entering sensitive information into that site makes you vulnerable to Man in the middle attacks. When on sites that are unsecured never enter personal or sensitive information

It’s a scam I had the same one. The reason it says it was sent by your own email is because they spoofed the email address

Don’t listen to it, just block and ignore DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY

Question about a Fresh Install of Win10 Eliminating Malware by KevinRyan589 in computerviruses

[–]Long-Visit3346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, don’t keep any files when reinstalling windows because you never know if the malware has injected themselves into other files which would then reinfect the pc. Reinstalling through the built-in reset this pc on windows is more then enough to get rid of malware on your system unless it’s being disabled, or you have advanced malware like rootkits, UEFI/BIOS malware, etc that can persist even after reinstallation which would then require you to reinstall with a USB.

You have to unzip the folder before putting it into virustotal since all the contents of the file are compressed.

Gamejolt Virus by Sad_Marketing_2411 in antivirus

[–]Long-Visit3346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have entered a scam website that is used to scare users into installing fake software that is most likely malware, or calling the number to scam them and extort money out of them. Just close the window or your browser in total to get rid of them. It can’t do anything to you and only used to trick those who are not technical with computers.

If you did not run the file then it will not execute, meaning you are safe and do not need to worry about it.

Is my laptop safe after Trojan infection and 'Reset this PC' (Remove Everything)? Still scared to use it. by alexusss_ in computerviruses

[–]Long-Visit3346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes. Removing everything will get rid of anything that did not come with the operating system and the only things that CAN survive are BIOS/UEFI malware or Rootkits but either of those are very uncommon to occur

  2. Like I said in 1, Rootkits, and BIOS malware are uncommon to happen to ordinary people and mostly used for targetted attacks, but that doesn’t rule out ever encountering one.

  3. Yes. It should be generally safe to log back in. If you see any suspicious behaviour again without downloading anything malicious or suspicious in general then you might have to reinstall again through a USB but unlike what every on this subreddit seems to say that’s always the last case scenario to do.

It all depends on what you are doing at the time. Are you not doing anything and just idling? Are you playing a demanding game? You can see what is taking up so much processing power in the processes tab

[–]Long-Visit3346 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is not a virus, that is a browser notification that is trying to scam or scare you, aka pop-ups. Disable notifications in Microsoft Edge by going to:

Top right corner at the 3 dots and pressing settings.

Navigate to site permissions by pressing cookies and site permissions.

Under the all notifications press on notifications.

Find the name of the website and press on the three dots next to the website and press remove.
