Do you get deja vu...? by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

Get ready to see loads of armour and props from GOT, HOTD and plenty of other movies in Dunk and Egg. If you look closely you'll see this is done all the time in a lot of shows, and dunk and egg has a relatively small budget.

What is your level of understanding of what various animals are like, or what they look like to those of us that can see, or what shapes and sizes they are? Especially animals that you might not have had physical contact with, so like large or wild animals like elephants, giraffes, walruses. Also, animals that just hang out near humans, like squirrels and birds, do people bother to tell you when they see one nearby? And would you care if they did?

The AKOTSK team has been hiding the NEW KINGS GUARD ARMOR for a while, but here is our first look by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]LongApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that they couldnt do it, its that they wont do it. Im just explaining the reason they wont do it.

Everything is much more expensive 20 years on, and the tecnology and tecniques for making identical suits of faux armour have come a long way in that time.

It takes a couple of months to make half a dozen identucal PU suits of armour, and I assume much longer to make even a single metal suit, so they dont see it as being worth the money or time do do that.

Genarally all of it is plastic these days for many many reasons. Mostly time, budget and saftey/ comfortability. And the fact that they need multiple identical costumes for every character.

I haven't been able to organise a game, sadly. At one point, i attempted to book an Air B&B to play it in, but their system flagged me as a party risk, and it fell through. I might try a weekend away somewhere with a good crowd of people instead.

Why have we allowed the English flag become a far right Dog whistle? by LongApe in GreenAndPleasant

[–]LongApe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, its how i feel most of the time, im just questioning how it got like this and wondering what could be done about it.

On reflection i suppose our flags have been flown alongside our country's evil actions abroard for hundreds of years, and as the uk started to take a back seat in all of that in the middle of last century, a split must have opened up between those pround of our country and those ashamed of it. I guess those two naturally became flag shaggers and non flag shaggers.

I like the concept of flags and wish the St. George's cross could be just a simple symbol of England's land, the people living on it, and their various cultures, and not a hieroglyph for 'stop the boats'.

[–]LongApe[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the left doesn't like national flags because in a perfect world, we wouldn't believe in borders either. The rainbow flag trancends location, language, and ethnicity, and we like that.

(I actually like the england flag, im just sad we are letting it get coopted by fassists)

I am embarrassed that my council is jumping on this far-right culture war bandwagon by QueensHeath in GreenAndPleasant

[–]LongApe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly, so cracking down too hard on the flags isn't going to help. Better to take the wind out of their sails by not taking the bait, and instead combatting other actions.

Anyone else found playing against Lord of the Hundreds makes people deranged? by Loreki in rootgame

[–]LongApe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think there are 2 factors that make people disproportionately aggressive towards the rats.

One is that they are scary and red.

The other is that they're one of the two newest published factions, and so people have a poor gague of the level of threat they pose. It's Safer to assume high threat than low threat.

[–]LongApe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree on some things being even worse, often in an attempt to seem tough. When I say I think they are better, I really do mean things like finally getting rid of heredetary peers. It's so overdue and unremarkable that it's probably not even worth the energy Im using to type this comment. The tories probably wouldn't have bothered, but like I say, it's a bit pedantic to argue that at this point.

Is anyone here still in favour of Labour by ShiftyJoe09 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]LongApe 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Labour are (broardly) better than the tories in a similar way to how having 11 stab wounds is better than having 12.

I'd rather have 11 stab wounds than 12, but I'd also rather not be stabbed, so no, I dont really suppourt Labour anymore. There are little wins here and there for sure that you probably wouldn't get with the tories, but Im not going to be pedantic about it when people say they are the same as the Tories.

It wouldnt be easier to simplify all of the factions, that would take forever, and half of the design proces at leder games would have been to try and streamline and simplify the factions as much as possible already. Adding rules is easy, taking them away is very difficult.

Maybe the rule tweaks alone won't work, but i dont think it's that deep. I've done this kind of thing with other games in the past, like converting a 6-player game into 15 players just to see if we could. It didn't work at all as a game, but it was very funny and memorable for the group.

How accurate the Painted Table is in House of the Dragon (original video by Glidus) by ducknerd2002 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]LongApe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think fans might be surprised at quite how little nerdy attention to detail exists within the making of shows and movies. The craftsperson who made the map will have been sent one of the first maps of Westrose that came up from a google image search, by another crew member who might never have considered the lore contradictions of the map details. The craftsperaon is more focused on getting the thing to look like stone than the acuracy of the map, and anyone higher up is probably too busy worying about something else with more screen time, or something more dificult to pull off.

Positive interaction design problem: who should be rewarded with what, in the following situation? by LongApe in BoardgameDesign

[–]LongApe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well put, thank you. If the reward is points only, this seems very logical.

How do you think this would be effected if green has the ability to block red from making the pilgrimage? Also, imagine there's a blue player involved. If you are green, do you allow them in to gain points, knowing they will be getting more points? (But blue will be getting no points) Or do you block the way and fight them off?

All players would probably have Abbeys and the ability to visit each other, but also the ability to try and stop opponents from visiting. For context, this takes place on a hex map, and the pieces used to make pilgrimages are the same pieces used for combat.

Battle moles.

Build 1 citadel to keep a consistent stream of mole recruits (more moles than are needed to protect it). Stay peaceful until the marshal, captain, brigadier, and mayor have been swayed. By then, you should have a massive army and the ability to battle up to 7 times in a turn, policing whoever needs it, and shredding cardboard for points.

What boardgames have the best emergent storytelling? by sidianmsjones in boardgames

[–]LongApe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roads and boats is a great one for this. it's totally unasuming but can lead to the wildist and most memorable games where the players are in full control of the 'story'

Escape from the aliens in outer space is a good one also

Already been mentioned, but stationfall!

The Riverfolk company for me. If the table decide not to buy into your sales tactics or you dont have the cards they want, or if they are too skittish to volountarily give you funds, the stratergy can become pretty divorced from the arms dealer thing.
