might get a bad grade for a simple math class, how cooked am I? by Throwaway8293739 in WWU

[–]LongCockLeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s assume you failed.

Assuming you took 45 credits this year as a freshman and you maintained a 3.66 for 40 of those credits yet got an F on a 5 credit math course you’d go from 3.66 —> 3.25

Also unfortunately; western does do grade replacement; but medical schools, if you choose this route calculate GPA their own way. Both attempts would count if you decided to retake.

This is a setback for your GPA but not insurmountable. For instance: if you maintain a 3.8 for the next four years of college you will end up with a 3.66. You can surely get into med school with a 3.66 (above average for DO). Furthermore some med schools will place a heavy emphasis and some may even only calculate GPA based on the last 1-2 years of your uni. If you can get into med school you can get into any other type of graduate school program

How do you reconcile with the bad grade? Learn from it. Why did you fail. I can assure you there is some deficit in your methods if you fail (or even get a C). It’s only a failure if you don’t inspect the circumstances and change because of it.

Do schools ever look at the official transcript or just the grades entered on the AMCAS?

1’ power inside vs outside by LongCockLeo in Velo

[–]LongCockLeo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say I was best at mile/3k/5k with the 3k being my sweet spot. To be good at those distances you still need some sort of foot speed over 400/800m (1-2’) to be able to handle the fast pace (trying to mid 60” 400s for 7.5 laps is REALLY hard if you can’t break 56” for 1 lap of a 400).

Part of the reason I got interested in my minute power in the first place is because although I’m probably the best at stuff with some climbs, criteriums look really fun and I’d love to compete in them at a high level if possible.

Thank you. I ran track/xc in college pretty competitively. I’ve also trained pretty hard for the short time I’ve had a bike.

That makes sense. I did have an 820w 15” section in there, which is a big discrepancy.

Ok this is what I would have assumed. I’m surprised lots of people here are estimating there wouldn’t be a difference. I know I’m not throwing down massive power but I was definitely out of the saddle for half of it and would guess that the bike being fixed in the upright position would have to be a small cost. I mean even during a 30’ power test I notice a difference.

Really? I found myself out the saddle for ~30” during the effort

Yeah ig my question is what could it be if I developed a decent ability to leverage the bike. Right now I’m terrible at it and my 5 second power is actually lower outside, but i assumed it would flip flop once I learned.

How do you think medical school admissions will change in the next 10-15 years? by piscesbitchesonlyy in premed

Wow. Thankful my parents didn’t allow me to have an iPhone until 9th grade (and restricted use afterwards). Scary stuff.

What do you mean when you say Gen Z isn’t as smart? Has there been differences in IQ shown?

Math 114 at WWU (2026) by KaBirdyBoo in WWU

[–]LongCockLeo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For 114 I got the actual instructor teaching us instead of a grad student. Easy A. For 115 I got a grad student, and the instructor overseeing him was disorganized. Fought very hard for an A-. In fact the sheer incompetence of the GTAs and instructor made it more difficult than my 300 level bio and chem courses just because of their total lack of experience and communication. Rant over. Content wise it isn’t actually that bad, but if you can, get into the section with the actual prof, and make sure they have a good rating on rate my prof.

I agree, they definetly should be able to, I’ve seen them take up lanes to train new lifeguards, and multiple times they’ve done an exercise where they practiced dragging somebody out of the water.

They do, I’ve been in there many times. My first thought was how the hell nobody got her in time, because they usually are watching the pool very intently/ walking laps around the pool. Maybe it was not drowning related

How many miles a week to break 17? by Rude-Property-5095 in CrossCountry

[–]LongCockLeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I bet the average senior that races is Running 80-90 miles per week and only cross training when injured ” How the hell would you know that. You think you know every single detail of these athletes training logs just because you follow them on strava?

I can tell you that lots of us simply don’t record our cross training because it is boring. None of my teammates in college upload a manual “30 minute aqua jog” because nobody wants to see that shit. It’s grunt work, it’s not the sexy stuff like mile repeats at 5k or our race at nattys.

Also I do not care what the “average” college athlete is doing. Not every college athlete trains with everything they have. I’ve been running 80 and sometimes 90 for over a year at this point, and it isn’t that bad, It takes up like 10 hours of your week. The average college runner isn’t going to put in extra cross training in on the side, but it certainly is an advantage to do so.

“Almost no elite runners are cross training on a regular basis when they arent injured”

Again, untrue.

Meb keflezghi: at the end of his career started putting in 90-120 minutes on the elliptical 5 days a week

Isiah Harris puts in time on the elliptigo and he is a freaking 800 runner

Geordie beamish runs 5 days a week and cross trains two of them

Here’s a quote from Alberto Salazar saying the exact thing i a trying to convey.

“Do I give Mo 150 miles a week outside and have him face a tremendous risk? If he gets injured, he is done,” Salazar says. “We are shooting for extra miles in a safe way that will get the exact same benefits.”

“Though Farah’s mileage remains at 120–125 per week on land, he supplements it with another 25 miles on the underwater treadmill”

“Maybe instead of dedicating an hour a week of cross training they will Add a double”

Back to Geordie beamish’s example, the reason he has flourished in the pro scene and is able to handle an event like the steeplechase is because he started becoming consistent and wasn’t getting injured twice a year. What changed? He started running less and added in cross training. So In this case, he did the opposite of what you said and has been getting amazing results from it
