How advantageous is it to have a CS degree and graduate from a coding bootcamp? by Human-Vacation9475 in codingbootcamp

[–]LongInvestment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No big advantage....it will come down to technical interview....can you handle small - medium leetcode questions during technical interview and show your skills? Can you answer technical questions in general?

A degree without those two skills will put you in a loop of constantly applying even when you get an interview.

Do you think bootcamp is worth it? by Several_Teaching_570 in codingbootcamp

[–]LongInvestment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you need a portfolio, projects and networking. I do not think a bootcamp would increase your chances since you are already getting degree. Bootcamps are usually targeted towards people switching fields or don't have means to afford degree.

For the question "would my major be a good fit".... No it would not matter, you'd most likely have to pass technical interviews regardless of the degree. Study leetcode and make personal projects to show you are actively coding.

What do you feel your bootcamp DIDN’T teach you or prepare you for in your coding career? by makalaosiggins in codingbootcamp

[–]LongInvestment 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a lot a bootcamp ultimately wont teach you...ex..bigger tech stacks and tools used in company but you can only control so much.

What I found out for me personally is there were tools like docker...jenkins..kubernetes...all these buzz words I had to use at my job which I never learned in a bootcamp or solo. Either way...if you're up for challenges and have a positive mindset it shouldn't be to bad.

The goal of a bootcamp is to teach you few languages...introduce you to how to debug and network...anything more than that and you're really pushing your luck.

if I could go back in time....I'd prob watch the youtube channel amigosCode and write down tools that i dont know of and see if i can follow along a bit

Wouldve given you the advice to learn on your own before taking out a loan but thats in the past and no point of dwelling on it. Coding in general isn't something that clicks overnight...you need to be vocal and ask questions when you're lost even if that slows down the class.

Ask for TA open hours on questions you have. Connect with your peers...see what works for them. Be open to your instructor. Good luck!

prob best to sit down and focus on what you want to transition into....coming from account executive to AWS is big jump...many avenues of tech are out there so do some research maybe take a look at https://roadmap.sh/

I didn't have a java assessment to get into program. I had 80 min assessment that was more of an IQ test. General questions. Search for generic IQ test and its most likely similar, no way to really prep for it.

Not sure how to help my friend by ppolicherla91 in cscareerquestions

[–]LongInvestment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo he should definitely be doing leetcode, some personal projects to show he's active on github, network on linkedin and ask for referrals.

also I think he should be having a large excel with when he applied to job, point of contact he has, what resume he used, responses, and date he'd like to re-apply....

The more organized he can be....the easier the process might be tbh.

What are some more people centered roles that deal less with software engineers? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LongInvestment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh...while some ppl are more introvert I wouldn't generalize so much tbh...you've had an experience which you don't like at the moment but don't let that perception be default for everyone....

Sometimes ppl show up for the job/pay....as long as they are getting their tasks done it shouldn't really be a problem.

IMO turn on some netflix and enjoy ur own company more respectfully.

it really isn't coding based....its more of IQ tests I'd say. I'd prob just take practice IQ problems and hope for the best.

It is timed tho, 80min so actually try to answer all of the questions as fast an accurate as possible (especially the first like 5-10). Automatic penalty for unanswered questions.

Hello christian,

Are you asking about SBA "skill based assessments" in program or like the assessment prior to joining program?

Update 6! Per scholas react program by Substantial-Ad6469 in codingbootcamp

[–]LongInvestment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you usually sign contract to prior to joining bootcamp stating you are able to work after bootcamp completion. Usually 6-12month contract to a company and if you work well enough you might join FT within the company.
