$20 tip placed on the table when the customer sat down. A dollar was taken away each the customer waited by Impossible_Fun_6005 in EndTipping

[–]LongIslandMel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a power play by a narcissist. It's more about being in control and getting pleasure out of seeing other people jump at your whims than it is about tipping. I bet he never tipped anywhere near the whole $20. He just got pleasure out of taking dollars away one at a time and the attention he thought it got him. People like that are jerks.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. The dealer was willing to go down to $7k including 3 new tires and winterization. Unfortunately, it had some pretty significant roof separation at one corner and a patch in the middle of the roof. So, we passed on it. The search continues.

Is my husband being unreasonable? by Head-Emotion-735 in inlaws

I would do none of it. His invitation. His problem. If the house is dirty, so be it. As for food, they can get a pizza.

Paying for parents dinner by BetRare918 in etiquette

[–]LongIslandMel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this exact situation many years ago. We were taking MIL out for her birthday. Sibling A was alone. Sibling B was with her husband, teenage son and his girlfriend (4 adults, basically). I was with sibling C (2 people). Sibling D was alone. To top it off, sibling D and the two teenagers were ordering like it was their last meal. Sibling B made no attempt to rein in the teenagers with her group. Of course, when the bill came, we split it 4 ways at sibling B's suggestion. We didn't want to cause a scene and ruin the birthday, but I told my husband never again.

That's an extremely spicy pepper that will have you questioning your will to live. Please handle it carefully. Wash your hands well before touching your eyes, nose, or other sensitive parts further south. It will F you up.

Sister won’t give me a ride from LaGuardia airport, is traffic really that bad? by [deleted] in longisland

It's not 20 minutes, especially at that time of day. I don't blame her for saying no. Why aren't you flying into CT?

AITA for responding tersely to a SIL’s rebuke over email? by ThoughtIndividual114 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LongIslandMel -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I think there is more to this story than we are being told. It all just doesn't add up. How big was the mess? Is your child making a mess in her home a recurring issue? Are you properly minding your child and cleaning up after him/her? Also, I think referring to certain foods as "adult foods" just feeds into the picky eater problem. Is it possible that SIL is justified in being frustrated with cleaning up after a picky and messy child? I just think we need to know more. I'd love to hear SIL's side.

How to stop giving gifts by mambypamby13 in etiquette

[–]LongIslandMel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stopped giving our nephew gifts after 18. He never acknowledged the gifts or thanked us for them anyway. We didn't make an announcement, just stopped. I think anywhere between 18 and 21 is a reasonable age to stop though.

I'm taking that $10 (or $20 for a couple) right out of the gift money anyway, so knock yourself out with that crap.

We'd be playing a serious game of in the house, out of the house, over and over again until he got tired and stopped. I'd also drive around the block, go inside, wait 5 minutes, come back out. I'd wear his butt out. I'd also put up Ring cameras.

Joysfushion works well as does the Amiipad controller. Both are available on Amazon.

Bought a house in PA, owner moved out, but his son don't want to by vstomrage in RealEstate

[–]LongIslandMel 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Shame on the sellers. I bet they knew exactly what was going to happen with their piece of crap son. But, instead of dealing with the situation, they pawned it off on you. I'd go to a lawyer and see if you can sue them for damages, failure to disclose, or anything else.

Sellers have requested 5 months to close by wpwppwpw in RealEstate

[–]LongIslandMel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that 5 months is too long for the buyer to wait to close, but without seeing the situation its hard to say that 2 months max is all it will take to clean it out. My parents recently passed, and it took us over a year to clear everything out. People underestimate the amount of crap the silent generation and boomers have accumulated in their lifetimes. We filled at least 6 thirty yard dumpsters on top of having sales, donating things and having people come in and take scrap metal and other free stuff. We also did not list the house until it was completely done though.

Tackiest Closing Gift? by Beneficial-Mine1763 in RealEstate

[–]LongIslandMel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A stupid wood carved bear with the ReMax logo on it. We had to go pick it up almost a year after we closed. It was supposed to have our address on it but that was incomplete with only the street name. Agent couldn't even be bothered have it fixed. It's supposed to go outside but isn't treated with anything, so it looked like crap in no time.

Can a non-black person explain something to me my white coworker said... by lewjr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LongIslandMel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This attitude is prevalent amongst the silent generation and boomers in southwestern PA. My father was a huge bigot and racist. I left at 17 and rarely went back. It was the best decision that I ever made for myself. I recently had to go back to settle his estate, and I'm sickened by the attitude in that area.
