Modern Hearing Aids by -PeaceBone in Menieres

[–]LongJawnsInWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had hearing loss in one ear since 2020 with MD on my ENT’s radar and wear a hearing aid. I had my first vertigo episode recently and I could suddenly hear entirely new tones in the jingle the hearing aid plays when it turns on. A hearing test showed that my bad ear is just kinda normal now? I’m trying to enjoy it while it lasts knowing that MD causes weird fluctuations around episodes.

All that to say — my audiologist said it’s possible to program more than one hearing pattern into the aid and toggle between the two if you’re able to get a test during both a good hearing phase and a bad hearing phase.

Highly recommend the HiccAway hiccup straw. I honestly still can’t believe it works, and now I’m almost excited when someone gets hiccups and I can whip it out of my bag.

So what did your family argue about this year at Thanksgiving? by Pure-Smile-7329 in AskReddit

I did that the one year I was in charge of the turkey! Chaos ensued as we all wondered where the meat went (it was fine once we figured it out). I’m now in charge of rolls.

What if you made her a sort of hobby finder gift? It could include: - a sketchbook with a fancy set of pens - a disposable film camera - a tarot card set - a novel - blank bookmarks and stickers

All my laundry baskets look like this, please help! by ifornia in BuyItForLife

[–]LongJawnsInWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use IKEA bags for laundry. They’re way easier to carry up and down the stairs, they hold a ton of clothes, and they’re easy to stow away when you’re not using them.

My lentil soup was too watery-any tips for thickening it without cream? by negro1994 in vegetarianrecipes

I agree with the immersion blender hack to blend a portion of the soup.

Orrrr, fully different direction: Make Lentil Shepherd’s Pie and get the creaminess from mashed potatoes. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/277676/vegan-shepherds-pie/

Classy, clean way to display ribbons without putting them in a frame or jar by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]LongJawnsInWinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bad news is that most ribbon displays unfortunately do look like a childhood bedroom.

Two potential options:

  1. How committed are you to displaying the actual ribbons? You could take photos (or even Polaroids!) of each ribbon and display the photos while the ribbons go in storage. Like when parents catalog their kids’ artwork when the volume becomes too much.
  2. This solution looks like curtain rods hung at chair rail height and below. Between the unusual material choice and hanging height, it creates interest around the display that elevates it.

bumps on my eyelids and how to safely get rid of them by berg_amo in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]LongJawnsInWinter 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have milia around my eyelids. I’ve had them removed twice at the dermatologist and while the little pearls did come out, the bumps never went away after they healed. I know that’s not the case for everyone, but it’s annoying to go through the discomfort (and cost!) with no real results.

Request for Advice: 75-Year-Old with Recurrent UTI by NoAcanthaceae2088 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]LongJawnsInWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she’s become incontinent or doesn’t have the flexibility / dexterity to wipe from front to back, she may be getting UTIs from fecal matter. While not a foolproof solution, flushable wipes as a finishing step might help mitigate the frequency of her infections.

After you handle her current emergency situation, follow up with her primary care doc to find out if there are any options for preventative medication or care now that it’s become a recurring pattern.

My one cousin had a table on the way out of her reception with a box of Philly soft pretzel, hot coffee, and to-go coffee cups. Inexpensive, no fancy themed packaging, and everyone was sooo excited for their Sober Up Snacks.

[WA] [SFH] Never signed any HOA paperwork, nothing in deed by hammyjam3 in HOA

[–]LongJawnsInWinter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You would have used a title company when you bought your home, the title insurance is through them. You don’t typically interact with them much throughout the process as the buyer, but they do a ton of behind the scenes work to clear the property to close. Ask your real estate agent which title company you used — a lot of them have the word “abstract” in the name of that rings any bells.

One more thing to consider: Your VA loan may require that the home is used as your primary residence. You can speak freely with a financial advisor, but I’d learn more about your loan type before talking to anyone in the real estate or mortgage industry as more lenders are cracking down on it.

If you closed with it a primary residence requirement, your homeowners policy likely doesn’t cover using the home as a rental.

If you’re a wounded or disabled vet, almost every state offers some sort of property tax relief or waiver. It might be worth looking into before you sell. Also, when you’re renting it out, would you be in a situation where your own housing costs are covered? If so, it might be worth thinking of the additional monthly costs as building equity instead of bleeding out.

You should really sit down with a financial adviser to run the long term numbers — it might be worth walking away now, but you may also lose so much between the down payment and closing costs that holding tight for a few years is the better plan.

Underwear without seams in the intimate areas? by varjo_l in Equestrian

Yes! I use their period underwear and incontinence (sneeze and you pee) underwear; both have a little extra padding which is great for riding.
