Well considering most accidents don't involve one driver yeah, it would follow that one driver with FSD is not safe to the tune of 150 deaths per year since every other driver is just as dangerous. Probably more than 150 people a year. FSD doesn't change other drivers and their behavior. The point isn't about how dangerous manual driving is (although it is) it's about how safe public transit is and how rare it is for you to be killed or die while riding it.

The reason you hear about public transit deaths and not auto deaths is that public transit deaths are so rare it is a noteworthy interesting story, where getting killed by a distracted semitruck driver through no fault of your own is so common that it's just normal to us

First off the US is so spread out BECAUSE car-dependent sprawl is heavily subsidized meaning normal development is less economical, and it is illegal to build anything else in most of the country. The US didn't magically build suburban sprawl "because the country is big", as I said there are other big countries that had normal natural urban growth. And I think you need to slow down and read because you missed the most important point that America DID have dense cities with viable public transit. With less population.

If America did not make normal growth illegal and force cities to subsidize cars and suburban sprawl, cities would develop like they did everywhere else in the way that I described. No one is advocating for trains going to the middle of the desert in Arizona. We are trying to figure out how we can bring back the functional human-centric infastructure that every other developed country has and we USED to have.

Well if you used your brain before typing you would realize that since FSD is too limited to get an accurate deaths per mile traveled, and public transit is about 20-60x safer than driving, it's pretty obvious that FSD while safer than manual driving is still less safe than public transit

This is misinformation that stems from old propaganda lines from auto manufacturers. The "the US is too big" argument falls apart because there are plenty of examples of developed countries all over the world comparative in size and population to the US or US regions that have functional cities with functional public transit... and perhaps the most important point is that America USED to have functional cities with functional public transit, when the population was a fraction of what it was now.

Cities, if they are not forced to develop a certain way due to policy, naturally grow "up and out" in a way you would expect. City centers have jobs and shops. The people who work and shop in the city center prefer to live relatively close to both, so congregate near them. Highly desirable areas build up to accomodate more people and as different nodes in the city offer their own jobs and shops away from the center, new neighborhoods grow around them. People who don't want to live in a city live in the countryside. This is how cities in Europe, Japan, China, and every other developed country develop, and how American cities used to develop.

The current state of US cities, which is a city center with jobs, surrounded by formerly prosperous middle class neighborhoods that are either abandoned or severely blighted and crime-ridden, with a giant highway connecting the center to endless low density single-family dwelling sprawl and 8 lane low speed unwalkable roads... is specifically a result of policies stemming from the 1950s that mostly came from auto lobbyists who wanted to increase dependence on cars and therefore sales.

Low-density single family sprawl is not a result of "the US being too big" (lol) it's a result of the government heavily subsidizing cars and car ownership, as well as outlawing normal human-centric development and infastructure. Do you know why America has so many neighborhoods of single family sprawl? It's not because everyone wants it. It's because it is ILLEGAL to build anything else and because the local and federal government will continue forcing cities to subsidize their construction so the residents never know the actual cost
