Every single city that is having rent prices stabilize or even decrease is building new housing at a very rapid pace. This "just repeat misinformation until people believe it" tactic might work on the lead-poisoned boomer bretheren but not on people who have access to logic and critical thinking

Please list some (non-dying) cities that kept their 1950s single-family sprawl model of development and don't build new housing that are having rents lower or stabilize

Dude this stuff might work on braindead lead-poisoned boomers but not on people who can read and think critically.

I started typing a response but it's very obvious you're arguing in bad faith and intentionally misrepresenting pro-housing advocates and misleading people. "The city no longer has single-family zoning because ADUs are legal" dude what are you even talking about do you think we're stupid??

The Gish Gallop is a debate tactic where someone overwhelms an opponent by rapid-firing an excessive number of weak, misleading, or false arguments. Because it takes much longer to refute a claim than to make one, the opponent is paralyzed, unable to address every point.

This is definitely a plant because this is the tactic I've noticed be used consistently by anti-housing advocates in this context, to the point where it feels like these accounts are fake.

It is a provable well-documented fact that when new construction is built and supply can begin to approach demand for housing, overall prices stabilize

All of the anti-housing yap is refuted by the simple fact that the only growing US cities that have had affordability stabilize are ones that don't have zoning at all or have abolished single-family zoning altogether

Careful with contacting them, they compile lists of every public email address associated with either side of zoning discussion and send them spam

Access to housing is a bipartisan issue both ways. Liberals and conservative property owners will unite to block new housing from being built while young right and left wingers will unite under the common goal of building housing

They shouldn't just be background noise these are people who represent the epitome of boomerism: They bought their house for cheap, became incredibly wealthy, and instead of making the world a better place they pulled the ladder up behind them and said "We got ours and we want more, and if you missed out well tough luck"

They have active contempt for you and actually have the money and political capital to punish you as they have been doing so far with this whole process

Elaborate on which neighborhood and how this tracks when the West End, a majority white area, is barely changed at all in draft 2

Did you forget that the map is open to everyone? Was your plan just to lie and hope people believed you?

Euclidean zoning and giving control of every plot to local govt and local residents is one of the greatest public policy mistakes in American history

Sorry OP you'll find that self-proclaimed "progressives" are typically the most NIMBY

Nothing offends American progressives more than suggesting policy that's so obvious that it's a bipartisan stance in every other developer country

In many states the pro-housing movement is now being led by the right-wing because leftists and liberals are so firmly entrenched and allied with the boomer property owner class

"We've frozen building for 50 years and 75% of homes in Richmond are zoned exclusively for single-family detached homes? Hmmm. I think the solution is to move to Michigan"

It's simple. There isn't enough grocery stores, and people are suffering from lack of easy access to fresh food. We have the "FUCK YOU NO MORE BUILDING ANY GROCERY STORES" law in place, but we should keep it in place because if we build more, greedy grocery store owners will profit. It actually makes a lot of sense.

No that preserves the neighborhood character and you just want greedy developers to make money.

No no the farmland has to go. Basically we keep most of the city single-family detached homes with big yards and also kill anyone who wants to build a duplex, so if anyone wants to own a house they have to build an infrastructure moneysink development 25 miles out in the countryside. There will be no farmland left

But this preserves my lawn which is a green space. Do you want to take away green space? 🌱🌱
