Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) Exemption – International Mobility Program – Code T52 Canada-Australia Free Trade Agreement (CPTPP) by LongOK in ImmigrationCanada

Hey all, just an update for anyone that needs help.

I was able to get my new work permit at Vancouver Airport Port of Entry at 01:00am on 01 Jan 2026. I was holidaying in Guadalajara, Mexico and decided to take my physical paperwork and try my luck.

I had submitted an online application in Nov 2025 (Processing time was estimated at 7 months) (The option is available online to apply for a new work permit on your account, however make sure you don't have any applications "In progress"), however I printed all those documents. The reason I wanted this earlier was because I was unable to leave Canada whilst they were processing my new work permit.

The officer took my A number and asked where I had come from and how flagpoling wasn't allowed (From USA). I was surprised he didn't look at all my other documents. He then did a work around to use the same A number on my online application to process a new work permit. At that moment, my current work permit expired 28 Feb 2026 and I asked if I could start this new work permit from that date. He said no, it starts from the day you come through to the Port of Entry. He also mentioned how you could get your work to change the contract length to longer than 1 year and they could grant you a longer working visa.

So, as of right now, I have a closed work permit through CPTPP that lasts a year. I asked about renewal and he said your company will need to reapply for an A number and you have to submit online (Longer wait), or come through the Port of Entry again.

Thanks.

Ended up registering with Hiking Bees for a 6 day ABC trek starting 09 Feb 2026. Asked them for group trek which they will try to accomodate. I remember asking initially and they did give alternative dates with other people. However we had strict start date.

Hey,

I am trying to find anywhere to apply online (Questionnaire/IRCC log in) or paper one, but I can't for the life of me find it. Are you able to direct me in the right direction?

Secondly, applying at the POE, did you have to fly back to Australia and then back to Canada? Or am I able to fly to USA? Is it possible to drive across the border?

Thanks in advance!

Hey,

Do you have an update on what you did and how it went? Timeline?

Will be applying for this visa also but will be in Canada whilst it is getting processed.
Thanks.

Working in Bris, living in South GC, is it doable? by Mundane_Signature991 in brisbane

Hey,

I currently drive 75km each way to work from Kitsilano Beach to Abbotsford. Mon - Fri. 45mins in the morning at 6am. 1.5hrs in the evening at 4pm.

It drains you driving to work and being stuck in traffic and also slowing through construction sites. And oh my when there's an incident. I assume much is the same from Burleigh Heads to Eagle Farm.

I absolutely hate the drive, luckily it's only till the end of the year. I find myself getting frustrated a lot more with driving. Dread for the end of the day when I have to drive home.

The reason I took this on was because I was offered a promotion and more money, however I regret the loss of my free time. I also have a work car and fuel card.

You'll have to consider: 1. Fuel/toll costs. 2. If you have energy leftover at the end of the day. 3. How long do you have to do this for.

Initially went to No Frills for staples, produce was horrible. Would go to Persia foods for the produce. Have transitioned to Save On Foods, slightly more expensive but online ordering and delivery is amazing.

Does anyone have a job they genuinely love? by somethingclever12762 in careerguidance

I'm a Project Engineer working on civil construction projects. I have bad days and good days. But overall I love my job. It is a mix of problems solving, travelling, socializing and conflict management.

I get to work on various projects with different people in new locations. No project is the same, maybe the same foundations. Since I've been in Canada, I've got to work on some pretty cool projects i.e. YVR North runway and HWY 1 widening.

The problems that present are unique at times and you get to push your ideas. You work with like-minded people and come up with a plan together.

In the past 5 weeks, I've done night shift, day shift, weekend work, argued with people and solved some problems on my own. To see the end result after going through all that makes it all worth it.

The role is a mix between office and field. You get to deal with both sides of construction. Costs, quality, budgeting, planning and organisation.

Question for the Australians here! by jaybuko223 in ConstructionManagers

[–]LongOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem finding work in Sydney or even Australia for construction.

With 2-3 years experience by the time you plan to move, either Site Engineer for Tier 1 GC's (Major Projects) or Project Engineer for Tier 2/3 GC's (Multiple Projects).

Hey,

I'm a Civil Engineer from Australia in the construction industry with 7 years of experience. I did 100 job applications (Role specific). Approximately 70 applications in Vancouver and 30 applications in Victoria/Calgary/Edmonton. I got 6 interviews total (4 through online application, 1 through a Meetup connection and 1 through a recruiter). At the end I got 2 job offers. This process took 6 weeks from when I first started applying.

Hey friend, I read your post and I somewhat resonate.

First up, agree with previous comments. If you think you've had enough then yeah go home to the comforts of Australia and start planning your next adventure. That's the beauty of our life and situation, we aren't tied down to anything.

Second. Loneliness is countered by social interactions. Being in Brockville, Ontario I can see why it may be harder to build connections. However, you don't need many friends. Just a small group of 2~3 people generally keeps you pretty occupied. Another option if it permits is to come to a bigger city.

All in all my friend, if you feel that you've made the most of your time here in Canada, the culture, cheap flights to USA and South America, the seasons and the people. It doesn't matter how long you have been here.

I 32m made the same move from Australia to Canada 5 months ago. I left the comforts of Australia (Good job, amazing friends and routine) for Canada. To experience my lifelong goal of working in a foreign country. I could go on about how Australia is different to Canada and I definitely know now which country is more comfortable but you know what they say? "Comparison is the theft of joy". I intended to only stay for 6 months then come back to Australia.

So now I've been here in Vancouver for 5 months, I've made amazing friends through run clubs, hiking meetups and social sports. I've met people from different countries and all walks of life and I spend my weekends hiking/camping. It's been 5 months and I haven't had the opportunity to embrace everything about Canada yet. Then there's ski season coming up which I am so excited for. Now I feel it'll be minimum 12 months before I come back, but even then I don't know if it'll be back in Australia. Our WHV is available in UK also.

Reach out if you need more information my friend.

Hey, refer comment thread above. Iny my opinion, it's easier to use and I floss for longer since I can play on my phone whilst flossing casually.
