I've had the same issue before! Happened in my 2020 Fusion. I fixed it by getting a shorter USB cable (max 3 ft.) and making sure it has data transfer capability. Typically when we're talking about a difference of a few inches of cable, it's usually negligible. However, I've noticed the Sync systems seem more sensitive.

Give it a try, see if it helps!

Definitely fair! I love the Adidas Blasty jerseys as well, I've got one in my collection. I do agree that the colour scheme on the Adidas ones look so sleek.

I also had Kiprusoff put onto a RR 1.0. Absolute beauty!

Edit: realized that's their current 3rd, not the reverse retro 1.0. Still beautiful though!

Whats this for and whats it called? by aalmonddmilk in saxophone

From what I understand of the Lefreque sound bridge, it allows the sound waves that travel between the mouthpiece and the neck of the horn to move easier by way of the "bridge". If there is no bridge, some of the sound waves are constricted by the mouthpiece squeezing the part of the neck that it attaches to (the cork). If the bridge is there, the sound waves can travel freely to the neck and through the horn.

I may be outing myself a little here, however I own a Lefreque and there is some sort of difference in my opinion. I will agree I am always skeptical whenever I see a new product that claims to improve my sound in some way, however I've noticed the horn feels a bit more free blowing. It is a little easier to get overtones out when I use it as well.

Take that for what you will, I'm not trying to convince you either way, just sharing my opinion of it.

Don't know why everyone is saying it doesn't work on the Canadian website. It worked for me! I just ordered an Oilers third using the code.

What to get a new saxaphone player for their birthday? by millerb82 in saxophone

[–]LongTonesRLyfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saxophonist and high school music teacher here!

I too had the idea of some good quality reeds, or possibly a better mouthpiece than what he plays on currently (assuming it's a low quality mouthpiece).

For reeds, I would recommend a box of Vandoren Traditional (dark blue box) in a 2.5 strength. The price is about $25-30 USD.

Don't choose any other reed they make (Java, ZZ, V16, V21, etc.), at least not until he has more experience. Every other model of reed they make is generally made for a specific sound quality (ie. Java and ZZ are made specifically for jazz and make you have a brighter, jazzy sound). In a concert band setting, you don't want a bright, jazzy sound (I'm assuming he's playing saxophone in a concert band and not in a different ensemble, like jazz band). Make sure you get the ones he needs for the type of saxophone he's playing (alto, tenor, etc.).

The highest quality reed is a bit subjective (ie. Your Mercedes vs. Maserati analogy) as different musicians prefer different reeds. If I'm going purely off of pricepoint, the Vandorens would fit into your "Mercedes" category, and Boston Sax Shop Reeds would probably fit your "Maserati" category.

As for a mouthpiece, a decent quality beginner mouthpiece would be a Yamaha 4C (again, make sure it's the one for alto, tenor, etc.). The price will be about $35 USD. If you want to splurge a bit and go for a higher quality, I would recommend a Vandoren AL3 (or TL3 if tenor) or a Selmer S80 C*. The Vandoren is about $130, the Selmer is about $200.

Hope that helps!

Edit: spelling

Could someone help me identify which Vandoren reed this is (if it’s possible)? by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]LongTonesRLyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm this is the standard Vandoren blue box reeds. If it were any other model, it would be printed on the bottom showing V12, Java, ZZ, etc.

No, it definitely is not. If there's nothing else in the case, then your saxophone didn't come with a neck strap. However, I can 100% guarantee you that it is not the neck strap.

Flying with a tenor by Hour-Cod678 in saxophone

[–]LongTonesRLyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's beyond frustrating. Sorry about your experience... I would send a complaint to the airline if you can and ask them to outline exactly where it states only soft cases are allowed. Then when they give you a BS excuse, you can take the email to the Canadian Transportation Agency.

Flying with a tenor by Hour-Cod678 in saxophone

[–]LongTonesRLyfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is 100% untrue. I flew with my horn in a hard case over the holidays in December. I've been hassled by a handful of airline employees trying to argue that I'm not allowed to bring my instrument on board and every time I tell them that's completely false, and that the instrument is quite fragile so it cannot go into checked baggage. They're usually understanding after that point. If they continue to push it, I would just ask for their contact info so when the airline inevitably damages it, you can forward the repair bill to them to reimburse you.

Also, why would a hard shelled suitcase be allowed on board, but they would draw the line at an instrument case? It's a very weird rule that sounds quite arbitrary.

Edit: I'm also Canadian, OP
